mrsswordfisherman
Recently we took a trip to Glenbawn Dam. As members would know we have been going there annually for many, many years. This year for the first time it was very hard fishing. Usually we get dozens of fish within very short time frames but not so this year. Every other angler we met there said the same thing. I will give a little rundown on the area. It is a picturesque place with great fishing, boating, swimming, jet skiers, water skiers, canoes and kayaks and wakeboarders. The cabins have been upgraded and are very nice for groups and families. Lake Glenbawn is a stocked impoundment. Glenbawn has a variety of species such as Australian Bass, Yellowbelly, Silver Perch, Trout, Eel, Catfish and a small number of Murray Cod. Caution needs to be taken when navigating Lake Glenbawn. Some areas of Lake Glenbawn have submerged trees and other structure. Fish numbers are usually good due to support from Stocking Groups, Fisheries and anglers good fish handling skills and catch and release practices. October long weekend to December 31st is usually the best time to fish. The fish are usually in top condition - solid and very aggressive. Our lures of choice were spinnerbaits and we tried every conceivable colour with gold and or silver blades and sparkly skirts. They just were not biting!!! Swordie must have made 1000’s and 1000’s of casts with not much result. We both were casting into places that normally we would get fish 100%. We managed to get a better strike rate at dusk in one particular area so we would head back there before coming back in. It was very perplexing and my theory is that there are way too many tournaments and events there and the fish know now and I reckon they hear the noise of the spinnerbait blades and stay away. I am sure the experienced anglers will have other theories J We had fun at night with our pals Mr and Mrs Dalucius who were in the cabin beside us. We played games of Trivial Pursuit, Scattergories and just chatted over a few beers and wines and nibblies after dinner. Thanks Geoff and Lyn J Scratchie and his family were there too but they stayed a few k’s away at the entrance to the park. They had 2 cabins next to a nice swimming pool which was perfect for his kids and wife Jodie to enjoy when they were not out in the boat. Lovely to catch up with you guys. I have included a lot of pics of the cabin and surrounds so that those who want to take groups or families there can have an idea (fishraider trip advisor). I will leave swordie to expand on the fishing side of things

Scratchie
It was great to see you guys up there and thanks for suggesting the place. What a fabulous place to take the family. My lot had a ball and it was nice of Lynn and Geoff to let my kids steal all their ice blocks. Stewy said the fishing was tough going and he wasn't wrong although you guys managed a few beauties. We had a ball swimming and tubing. So much to do and heaps of wildlife. Great weekend! Love the photos Donna! Cheers scratchie!!!
Jewhunter
It will come back guys. It was fishing well just a month or so earlier. I think it may have something to do with the baitfish around at the time. Stewy, you have caught thousands of Glenbawn bass. A tough trip was probably due! Donna. I have to say by the pics that you look amazing. Well done. You look younger & healthier than you did 10 years ago, & that's saying something. The great company is always better than the fishing & it's sounds like you had a fun time. Thanks for the pics.

fishermandan123
Hi Stewy, I am the person you were talking to at the boat ramp on Saturday from Campbelltown. There were plenty of fish up around eagles nest, i landed 11 and dropped 8 on Saturday, Sunday i managed another 10 and one busted me off, lost my Jackall - ouch. Biggest fish went 45cm, most around 30cm. I had a headache from the pouncing of my boat as i made my way back to the ramp Saturday night head on into the chop, especially as i was by myself with no weight up the front to keep the nose of the hull down a bit. Water temp up the back was a lot warmer than the basin at around 24 - 26 degrees. Regards Daniel.

Dam was quite full i was told 88% i was told by other fishers not verified.Turned up on Friday arvo set up camp few ales some dinner was ready for the challenge.Saturday fished everything i had in the box with no joy jackals spinners etc. After a full day returned to camp a little bit dissapointed as we seen fish on sounder and plenty being caught.Discussed tactics with other fishers who enlightened me to the fact i was using wrong lures , they lent me a couple of stuckeys and briefed me on where to troll. Got the kid up late on Sunday was dismal and raining headed up at eagles nest by 9 followed instuctions given the night before and within 5 minutes the kid was on to his first bass at 390 it was a nice fat bugger in the next hour and a half increased the tally to 7 and had to head back before 11 for close of fishing and enter our our sheets. Our tally was low but was good for the kid to get some fish five to my two. Will review the lure box and be back again.
