Gunnamatta Bay

Yowie

Recommended Posts

Pumped some nippers in the wind yesterday, blowing a gale with showers.

Headed to the Gunnamatta flats at first light this morning, a light breeze from the west so I drifted using the nippers. Pulled out the whiting and dropped 2 more nice ones when the hook pulled both times. About half light before sun-up, the little whiting started biting, the bigger ones were gone. The flounder was a bonus.

In some places, not a bite. The water was a bit cool as well, probably because of the rain.

The biggest whiting was rather tubby, 700 grams (which is 1.5 pounds) and put up a good fight.

Wow..good fish yowie. Do u use circle or long shank hooks for drifting?

Long shank, size 2.

A nipper fits along the long shank. If they fall down the hook, which sometimes happens, a half hitch of the line around the nipper's tail will keep them upright and not bunched up.
