Fishwithme
Hi raiders, I've always purchased pre-ganged hooks to save me the hassle of ganging them myself Recently I thought I would buy some open eye gang hooks and do it myself. I thought to myself, how hard could it be? Bought some mustard open eye gang hooks, for the life of me I couldn't close the eye of the hook with my pliers. Just wondering what people use to close the gangs. Maybe I'm using the wrong type of pliers Thanks Edited July 19, 2016 by Fishwithme

Fishwithme
Yeah that's what I tried doing I'm just using regular fishing pliers Do I need to be using crimping pliers?
savit
I close my gangs with regular? fishing pliers, I put the hook in the area with small holes on both sides of pliers, so the hook is fixed in it and it does not break if I apply too much pressure while closing. See the bottom left arrow in the attached picture.
krause
Add some torque, don't just try to compress them shut. As you squeeze, twist them shut... if that makes sense
bluefin
Also try putting a swivell between each one . Gives greater flexability and stops Salnon throwing the hooks! As Krause said roll them shut dont just squeeze. Edited July 22, 2016 by bluefin

Fishwithme
Thanks guys Just confused by the swivel So put one end of the swivel into the eye and close the eye. Then the other end of the swivel goes to through the hook, past the barb So how would you keep that in place The barb isn't big enough to keep the swivel in
NaClH2OK9
Use a swivel that is smaller than the barb. Thread it on from the eye end Sent from my SM-G920I using Tapatalk
Guest Guest123456789
I use this tool. There is a circular part where you place the eye and then just crimp. I get it real tight so the hooks don't seperate and the eye attached to your terminal tackle is fully closed. Personally I find it simpler and easier to not worry about swivels between each hook, just my personal preference.
