Buddydownunder
Hi all, new to boating and just bought a second hand aluminium boat. It has two of these stainless steel fixtures which the previous owner didn’t know what they are for. Can someone let me know what these are for, thanks
SquidMarks
Im going to guess that its a sleeve for a removable component (like a removable rocket launcher). can you tell us where on the boat this is?
GoingFishing
Looks like an outrigger mounting plate. Photos showing where it is on the boat will help get answers

Berleyguts
Yeah, I was thinking an outrigger mount. Gotta get me a couple myself... imagine me fishing solo with a full spread! ???
PaddyT
Doesnt look like an outrigger mount- no splines or locking mechanism- more likely a bimini mount.
dunc333
does it have wires underneath looks a bit like a baynet fitting for a pole stern light nooo ,i think it is for removable rod holders if on each side of boat and they have lost them.also looks like fittings need removal and a duralac aplication applied between the boat and fitting. rickmarlin62
My guess would be for multi rod holders like snapper racks...rick
Jiggy
Could it be for a stringer, I think that's the correct name? A bamboo\glass pole that was used to set live baits at certain depths when using a handline. Cheers Rob
Captain Spanner
Could be a light socket or for an antenna (if it's wired under the gunwhale), could be for a springer, could be for some other type of spigot base. But whatever it is the hull doesn't like the metal that the base plate is made out of, you can see the blisters from the electrolysis.
Fishop
I have them on mine as well. THe plate around the hole is quite thick. I just assumed it was for oars? lol
Jewce
It might be a mount for a deck winch, or electric reel https://alvey.com.au/products/825bcvmws/ Edited September 5, 2018 by Jewce
