Nickspencer Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 I have a Shakespeare alpha reel that someone gave to me and the winding action is very stiff..is it worth it getting serviced or am I better off just buying a new reel! I think this particular reel is only a cheap one that came in combo with a Shakespeare ugly stick
rickmarlin62 Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Take handle off side plate off and see if it has dried grease or vaseline in it quik fix is spray degreaser then reapply some thinner grease if you are capable of full pulldown do so first option is only a quiky to see if it frees up gears 2

kingie chaser Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Great advice from Rick, certainly not a reel worth taking to a service repairer. Give it a go, it is most likely only due to old grease/lube. This might also help when pulling it apart. https://www.reelschematic.com/reel-schematics/shakespeare-reel-schematics/shakespeare-alpha-schematics/#gsc.tab=0
