HAPPY EASTER - NSW Maritime warning/reminder

FROM NSW MARITIME

Raiders think very carefully before you venture out particularly over Easter. People who are not using their vessels for exercising may be fined.

For those thinking about taking a boat out or engaging in other water activities - as applies to everyone in NSW at the moment - if you don’t need to leave your home, stay home.

A ‘reasonable excuse’ to leave your home to use your boat could be to:
1. exercise (e.g. kayaking/sailing/paddling/fishing etc);
2. get to and from work, where the work cannot reasonably be performed from home;
3. get groceries; and
4. provide assistance, care or support to an immediate member of your family.

Socialising or cruising on the water is not a reasonable excuse.

If you have a reasonable excuse to leave your home, social distancing rules always apply – including at the boat ramp and on your boat.

Skippers must also remember their other safety responsibilities regarding safety equipment, alcohol consumption, keeping a proper lookout and proceeding at a safe speed.

During the Easter period police will be using numberplate recognition technology to ensure nobody is leaving their local area. Meaning if you're like me, and usually drive an hour from home to kayak fish, this will incur a fine in NSW. Even if this is for the purpose of fishing/exercise, different rules apply over the Easter break.

Probably worth waiting until Tuesday before heading out anywhere more than 10mins from home people.

I believe you have to stay "local". What defines local to the government and police, who knows.

I do plan on a fish in the kayak tomorrow morning and possible Sunday if the weather holds off which means i do generally travel a little bit further to get as close to where i'm fishing as possible.
also my cars registerd in Tamworth.... this will be interesting

It is a shame it has come to this with a few knuckle heads ignoring advice from government & authority's as those who do fish & boat solo and who do follow advice are the ones to pay.

Can anyone find any links to the different rules that apply over Easter as mentioned above?
I can only find the usually documentation stating reasons for leaving the house but I can’t find anything re: “local” only travel.

need to forward it to some of my fishing mates. Don’t want any fishos getting fined over the long weekend
