oldandgrey
Caught half a doz small sweep (20 to 30cm) this morning off rocks. Wondered if anyone has tried them as live bait. I put mine back.

Blackfish
When I fished off the Rocks at night for Jewies. Sometimes the Yellowtail were hard to catch to non existent but always plenty of Sweep. So we would stock up on sweep. We certainly caught a few Jewies on them, this was fishing under a float with a Cyalume stick. My thoughts were that a wounded baitfish swimming around would be nailed by a predator and some of the things we got out of Jewies guts would make Sweep seem tasty. They weren't as hardy as a Yellowtail but with plenty of them I would change them every hour. Never really got anything else other than an occasional Tailor of Shark.

campr
If it swims and preferably not too spikey, something will eat it. John Dory certainly like them. Ron
