Murray Cod - Heavy Lures

Hey guys, been casting murray cod lures (mainly topwater) and I have had some issues with lures snapping off as I cast them? I'm using 30lb braid with 50lb leader and using a double uni knot. It usually snaps on or around the knot? Any suggestions on how I can stop this and why it is happening? thanks

Change the knot to an FG or PR knot. 

 

I use an FG for my braid to mono connection.

That Jacko guy from daiwa (check youtube)reckons it just happens - with 30 up it to 50 for big lures.

I tie my cod lures on short mono traces attached to braid with albright knot   easy to tie  use at least ten wraps  then back around those wraps goin down the wraps 4 times  easier than fg

I'd definitely go with the FG knot.  Much smoother through your rod runners.  Ron

Hey mate.  A five turn surgeons knot might work a little better than the double uni for getting through your guides.  Chances are you're gradually wearing the double-uni over time until it snaps.  

If you're on heavy braid and leader an FG know won't be too hard to tie either.

G'day mate, 

FG is the go. But saying that, all my knots i use from whiting to kings and all the way up to marlin i have used double uni - i use 7 loops for braid and 6 for the mono.. Everyone has there own theory but seems to work for me, haven't had one ever pull through or break.
