Boaters fined for offshore fishing trips

Thanks for posting Donna. They shouldn’t have been there pure and simple. We all want to fish, we all have to do the right thing at this time. It amazes me why they should consider themselves above it all.

That's why this virus has got out of control, too many people just don't care and think rules don't apply to them, there is literally dozens of groups of people picnicking and just hanging around near my place, drives me nuts.

Ok I know I am going to cop some flack on this but here I go anyway............

Yes these people were a long way out of their 10km zone(actually more like 5k's) & doing the wrong thing before they even hit the river, botany bay or Sydney harbor.

If someone can explain to me what danger is posed to an empty & open air ocean then I will take that on board but as far as I am concerned if you live within the restriction area before you hit open water who is it that you are going to infect 20 or 40km offshore 🤔

If you went north, south or west into the populous (as others have done) then I would & do support such rules.

To me its just another in a string of somewhat ridiculous rules going back to March 2020.

Also BTW, I totally agree on cutting down on travel loopholes(should have been done weeks ago!) but again these are people using excuses to go out to regional NSW, to & through populous areas!

Hell they should just declare martial law for 2 weeks!

I have enough food & also toilet paper to see me through :whistling:

Hi Kingie Chaser,

I agree with you about not posing a danger from a spreading of the virus perspective but my take on it is slightly different.

By having a blanket rule it is easy to check and ensures that we are all in the same boat (pun intended). More importantly it ensure a fairness in the application across the population and at least makes the rules palatable. What about the Sydney judge going skiing a few days ago? Technically that was done under the rules but what about the rest of us that would like a holiday away and don't happen to have a holiday residence that we need to check (and while I'm at it I may as well bring my partner/family along)?

Easier for me to say than some others as I still have a job but I have no problem following the current restrictions in protection of the greater community. What peeves me off and I suspect many others is the minority that are either using loopholes (oh I went to Byron bay to look at some property) or deliberately breaking rules and claiming ignorance.

The nature of most people is to push boundaries at some stage. Under the current situation this has bigger consequences beyond the personal one.

For these boats heading out at what point can you stop them or guarantee they won't keep going South or North to say Port Macquarie? The marine authorities don't have the time to debate with every boat heading out.

One of the more surreal moments I have had in my working life is having to wear a hard hat while watching several people digging a ditch in a field with a few cows happily chewing their cud. The client at that time was one of the power stations who by stipulating hard hats across the whole site avoided minor loopholes or confusion.

Regards,

Derek

Derek

QR codes are all the rage at the moment, put one at the ramp, dont touch terra firma till you get back to the same spot.

There is no guarantee on anyone doing the right thing really, many people haven't even been using the QR codes anyway.

Just install martial law!

No one move anywhere for 2 weeks!

The only people who should be on the roads would be health care workers, essential services( as in the real essential services-police, fire, ambulance) & food delivery drivers who should be covid tested daily!

It's not just being in the boat, you stop to get fuel, stop to get bait, run into others at the ramp and so it goes, if everyone actually did the right thing, instead of wandering around, and trying to find a loophole that allows them to go out, then we could have had a lid on this ages ago!

It is not about logic,  it is about simple approach and equal treatment - same as 40km limit in closed and open school zones.

Most people are not looking for loopholes, they are looking for clarification. We've had that virus for over 1 1/2 year and it is still not clear 100%  if fishing in NSW (for COVID reasons) is an exercising, recreation or provision of food. It took over month just  to clarify LGA and km limit.

To have one rule only, does make it more easy for everyone to understand and adhere to.  It also makes it easier to enforce, without all the. if, buts and maybes. I feel that we just have to try to contain the COIVD 19 from spreading.  I do not have all the answers and would just love someone to be able to give them to us.  I just do not know. :15:

I have to agree on the 40km out to sea - I don't sea the harm, other than if you break down someone "might" have to come & get you.

Don't know about the home to the boat ramp bit. Probably catch it at the ramp with all the others

BUT as a resident of the mid north coast now in lock down I and lots of others would love to take any SFB's flouting the laws & entering the regions out "for a fish" to that 40km mark!!!.

Especially MR SFB currently in Lismore Hospital who drove through our area on his way to "buy real estate". I hope they release him to the community.

If this @#$% doesn't believe in Covid then what are they treating him for in hospital. An imaginary disease?? Let him out and let him choke on it then let's see how imaginary his symptoms feel. May seem harsh but people like him are making it very difficult for the general public....

What concerns me is when politicians have unrealistic expectations & are not forthcoming with giving us actual defined responses to what FREEDOMS they will ALLOW us to have even when we get to the golden number of vaccinated!

This creates much uncertainty on where life is going to be in 3, 6, 12 months??

I would certainly not like to be a resident of W.A

https://thewest.com.au/news/coronavirus/nsw-in-full-lockdown-as-defence-help-grows-c-3684938

If he gets his way his state border will remain closed permanently because covid is here to stay in the world permanently, just like the flu!

At least its good to see a realist like Boris Johnson who knows at some point life needs to go on!

Thanks for your comments.

Make no mistake this outbreak is a very serious situation for us all.

Suggest everyone listen to the pressers at 11am each day for any changes. Any changes I will continue to add the the main post.

There is no more “fishing for fun” for the moment.

Time to stop blaming the politicians, state or federal governments, health officials and those that make restrictions. Any raiders that feel the need to debate this please take it to social media platforms.

Ensure you check the LGA’s, particularly the affected ones and observe the restrictions. The key messages are

STAY AT HOME

GET VACCINATED

GET TESTED

STOP MOVING AROUND

Raiders please keep yourself and families safe.
