Bonnie trolling Jibbon Bombora

Gday raiders,

spent Good Friday taking a few of the boys from work out for a fish on the ski.

They were fishing off the wharf and not having much luck, so devoted the day in getting them onto a few pelagics.

Thought trolling would be the easiest as they could also enjoy a scenic cruise around the cliffs south of jibbon.

Ended up doing 4 trips outside today - which was very tiring but they loved it! They caught their first Bonitos and one caught his first kingy - just a rat, but he was happy.

saw a couple of busy ups on the surface and hooked up on both occasions - casting a halco bibbed lure in gold.

tally was 8 bonitos, 1 watsons bonito, 1 x rat king.

lots of loose weed strands floating around which was a pain getting out of the lures

Bonnies provide good sport, and can be used for bait or the table.

Weed is a problem for lures, and there is a lot floating about.

The young fellas really enjoyed getting onto their first bonitos, especially when the rod went off on the troll.

I might slice some up and give it a try with some soy sauce and wasabi.

Worth a go. I just read about it and apparently chefs sear it slightly before serving. Apparently it tempers the strong flavour. I can't recall if they did that when I had it.

Great stuff Larkin, that would’ve been a heap of fun. Well done

Thanks, was a lot of riding. Only issue - had to keep bringing in the trolling lines to clear the strands of weed. Should of changed from hard bodies to skirts.
