SabikiFishing
Hi Raiders, Just want to heard everyone's thoughts on the average/good casting distance when throwing out the squid jig. I've started learning squid fishing back in the summer of 2020 and loved it since the first squid session. I used to use my Daiwa Legalis 802MFS for my squid game and it works. I can cast about 35-38m on a windless day for a 3.0 jig Recently, i have decided to have an upgrade and purchase the 20 EMERALDAS MX 83ML rod hoping to improve my squid game further. It is definitly a good rod when it comes to the sesitivity of feeling the bit and the power it gives when fighting the squid. However, I didn't notice much on the improvement on the casting. Maybe I was getting 2-3m max extra casting distance which makes the average casting distance around 40m. I just want to see what you guys are getting in casting distance when fishing on landbased and maybe there is something that i can improve to cast it further. I have tried the bent barb+bead technique and it does increase the casting distance by maybe anothe 1-2m, but this technique do also reduce your cast rate as extra time need to be spent to fit the barb in the bead everything before you cast. Restyle
Not about casting distance, you’d find most squid hang abit close to the ledge or jetty to avoid predators or in weed beds, there may not even be weed or structure 40 meters out.

Isaac Ct
As mentioned above casting isn't always the best thing. If you are familiar with the areas you are fishing then think about where the squid are most likely to hang; these will usually be structure such as moorings, jetties, weedbeds etc.

Most of the time, I fish off shallow bay such as Malabar or the rock side of the beach on Maroubra or little bay. Personally i found that they normally hit my jig in the first few jerk after casting hence why I'm trying to cast further to keep a long hit zone when rertrive. I haven't got much success around wharfs and piers.😆

The briad is getting old and I am thinking of getting a PE0.6 or 0.8 egi briad which maybe is more waxy for longer cast.
Tunastrike11
If you get the wind on your back your jigs will go further.
