Planning on going outside on Thursday with good weather, I’ve recently been going to longreef and getting a couple snapper and a king here and there but have been seeing reports of people getting lots of flathead out wide and have heard that they are pretty easy to catch once u find the spot. I’m still quite new to fishing outside the heads as only got a boat big enough this winter so I’m still learning about all the different spots to fish out there. I searched up the gps marks on the internet to see if there was a flathead mark around Sydney but could not find any, if anyone could point me in the right direction for where to find the flathead outside or where to get the gps marks for them it would be greatly appreciated thanks

You don't need secret spots for Flathead, just try different depths, drifting using a sinker big enough to hold bottom, and fish flesh for bait, most bigger ones have been in about 40m recently.

The flatties outside do have regular spots, however, they will move about, especially during spawning season. The main spawning season is spring, though I have found them with roe most of the year.

Most years I have found them in 100 feet of water, though this year the better ones are in water around 150 feet. My flattie fishing out side is in Bate Bay, a bit of distance from you.

Suspect it’s neither of our domains unfortunately. Definitely not mine. I can find flathead but not offshore!

Plenty of others here who can help though, some have already 😎

Double dropper paternoster rig with 2 X 5/0 octopus hooks. Nice long rig so the droppers are about 50cm apart & use 4oz or 5oz snapper sinker or heavier if in deeper water over 60m. I use salted strip baits or fresh fish fillets. Can use salted pillies too.

Try any sand bottom area from around 40m depth - if your only catching small flatties, move up to 50m and work up the depths in 10m increments.

Here are a couple of spots marked on navonics near long reef - marked by other navonics users (not my spots) that you could try - that’s if long reef is your local area. GPS marks included ~ 60m deep.
