Recommended Posts

This report is very, very late It follows on from my Feb report at LAKE HUME NSW PART ONE and TWO 2024
It is more a travelogue than a proper fishing report. Sorry about all the pics but they tell the story.
Copied from my personal fb family group page.

Weather is great and looks good for the next week.
We set up our site, launched boat into our pen at the marina and talked to our usual neighbours for intel on fishing.
Stewy had to go for a quick run out in the boat and he was very excited to send me a few pics of a nice fish. Looks promising for the next few weeks!!
We went to the onsite Mulwala Ski Club for dinner and badge draws etc.
Got up Sat morning to the gorgeous sunrise shots out the front of the van.

Today is Valentines Day. We will probably go to the onsite Mulwala Ski Club.
Melbourne was hit with a massive storm front. Half a million houses without power. We copped a bit here in the caravan park, one van rolled over and a few lost awnings.
Today is lovely and we have all our windows open with a nice breeze flowing through.
Here are some pics and videos of the club. It is one of the best clubs I have seen.

Back to serious fishing after this bad weather!

Having fun at Lake Mulwala
Fishing, sitting in the sun watching boats go by. Sunrise photos are dreamy.
The on-site club is great for meals.
Waiting for the INXS tribute band, supposed to be great.

This post is so I can look for names next year 😂 We meet up with lots of people who come at the same time each year.
Pete and Lyn are beside us. Pete is a very keen fisherman and uses a kayak or goes out with Stewy sometimes. They have been coming here for 20 years!
Lyn goes to bingo which is on everyday. I even went to a morning session of bingo!!!!
Hutcho and his large crew of family are water skiers and are all real Aussies. They have been bringing their kids for 20 years. They occupy the units on the waterfront.
Most people sit lakeside and enjoy their JetSkis, waterskiing or swimming and sunbaking. Cold beers and wines are consumed and some people play Kubb or other games. Late in the arvo the fishing rods come out and they catch carp!
One of Hutchos crew, TJ, jumped on a wakeboard and it flew back and hit him in the nose. He came back in with a bleeding nose.
Amongst us were me an RN, a theatre nurse, and an ambo. We all looked and diagnosed a broken nose! TJ was only worried about having black eyes for his wedding in 6 weeks and continued to drink his glasses of red wine 🤕😳
He had surgery the following week to align it of course.
One of Hutchos crew is a butcher. He provided 6 sheep and beef. They brought a huge spit/oven thingy on the back of a ute. They forgot the right amp lead so Stewy races over and grabs ours. Bewdy and we got promised some lamb and beef.
We picked up the meat the next day as we were at the INXSive tribute band night at the club. It was truly the best lamb we have ever eaten. Cold lamb and tomato, salt and pepper sandwiches ........ bloody delicious.
We had Phill join us for 5 days too. He is a very old personal friend of mine. He brought his kayak and also went out in our boat with Stewy where he caught his first 2 cod. Well done Phillip!!
We missed seeing Ros and Brian who we met last year at a club. Lovely people who invited us to their home nearby. Hope we can meet up next year.

A day out at the De Bortoli winery, well worth it. Bought a few nice bottles of wine there.
The Rutherglen Information centre had some fabulous things to buy. I grabbed a nice glass board with hand painted picture.
Rich Glen Providores in town at Yarrawonga was a really beautiful shop. I bought their pate, dressing, chocolates, lamb roast rub, rock candy and some jam.
End of Mulwala and Hume 2024 booked for next year.

Well Donna, it looks like you had a great time there. Not big ones, but as you said, plenty to be caught so no complaints there. Nothing wrong with those wines.

A good array of photos - sunsets, water, fish, food, wine. 👍👍

A fantastic report of your successful visit to Mulwala and the region, Donna. Plenty of great people to meet, wonderful experiences to be had, top facilities, and excellent fishing are all on offer. A real alternative experience for city dwellers to sample a taste of life in the "bush". A bit of a shame that so few take the opportunity up, often preferring to jet set off overseas. Such is life.

Thanks Neil. I started overseas travelling when I was 18 and did a lot over my life.

The decision to heavily invest in a caravan was a gamble. It has really shown us what our country has to give. We are getting older and health may only allow us to be “grey nomads” for a few years.

It is coming up to fishraider’s 20th birthday this month. We never thought we would still be here posting even!

Fantastic that you started it in the first place but just look at the marvellous achievement it has become. The immense help it provides to the community, past and present. is immeasurable. Citing my own experience with the forum, I would have to say that it has provided me the opportunity to learn from others, to maybe pass on something of benefit to others, and the opportunity to find some genuine, lovely people who have become real friends.

Congrats on the longevity of the site, its success and the potential for it to continue well into the future.
