  1. I would have thought the memory mono would stop mono wrapping around the tip. Certainly, doesn't have the wind knot problems of braid. I agree that pulled hooks shouldn't be too much of a problem if you adjust your fighting style - such as using a light drag. One mono advantage is easier re rigging. Just tie your lure or snap on. No complicated braid to leader knots.
  2. 8 lb won't put bream off. Won't cast light lures as far as braid though. Maxima Ultragreen is an excellent line. Supposed to be hard for fish too see as well (might just be a marketing thing).
  3. Wide market on ebay - gear seems to fetch good prices.
  4. Yes it's important to keep tension on the line - which can be hard to do when a wave picks up the fish. Sometimes I ran backwards while winding flat out when that happens.
  5. Braid is prone to tangling with all the tumbling it gets in the surf - more so with bait fishing. Also not very abrasion resistant which could be a problem with all the sand and grit. Plus the extra stretch of mono is an asset trying to land a big fish when there is a wash/ surge to contend with.
  6. Sensor Surfs are very high quality. I have 2 - but overhead versions. I'm not sure if braid is a good idea off the beach. Also you are making it a bit hard for yourself using lures off the beach. Not very productive compared to bait in my experience.
  7. Fix up the trailer and put it on Gumtree or the Trading Post. You should get a few thousand for it. PS: Why does the motor need 'restoring'. It might just need a service which shouldn't be more than a few hundred dollars.
  8. Very murky driving over Alfords Point Bridge on Tues. I don't think the upper reaches will be fishable yet. I'm trying Botany Bay tomorrow.
  9. Had a lot of success with the CD12. A tip is to glue some sheet lead to the tail. This stops it tumbling and tangling with the line when casting.
  10. I got it for the first time 6 weeks ago. It was quite mild in the infectious stage. But it doesn't seem to have gone away - feel rather lethargic and coughing, also a bit of brain fog. The latter might be why I got a hook in my thumb (first time I have done that). It was in really deep so it was off to the Emergency Department. Tip - 2 hook rigs are dangerous when de - hooking a fish. Think about using single hook or be very careful. Perhaps cover the free one with Styrofoam or similar. Definitely use tools like boga grips and hookout or long pliers.
  11. Do you fish them on strike drag our use a bit of drop back?
  12. Quite a complicated motor but plenty of 2 stroke punch as well as being frugal on fuel. If you like the boat and the motor goes well on a water test then go for it.
  13. It's a good idea to replace the head gasket after 10 years. I believe when this is done salt build up like that can be cleared out.
  14. It's an Optimax - a DI 2 stroke. They are very frugal fuel wise.
  15. Some baits are a bit soft - slimy mackerel, tuna. The idea of salting is to toughen them.
