  1. The Tyrnos has a metal frame so should be more durable than the graphite TLD.
  2. The fish like the cheap online shop shrimp lures (Walkfish 61 mm). Also their (Ali Express) heavy casting minnow have a good action (I upgraded the hooks). I have purchased some 60g slow jigs but are yet to give them a try.
  3. I haven't had much success with vibes compared to soft plastics. Though there is probably a fair bit of confirmation bias at work.
  4. That interesting - what size/ type of boat was it?
  5. Well known for a big opening run, I said 'can' run 100m, it typically will be less. Professor Kearny described it in his book, delving into their physiology. He described how a guy using whipper snipper style line actually getting pulled into the water. They tire quickly so you don't get tuna or marlin style runs.
  6. A jewfish can run 100m - could see him spooled if he has lost some line due to wind knots. I nearly got spooled at SWR on the Macleay River by a jewfish around of 10 kg on 10lb line. The line just melted off the spool. We were in a boat so were able to ditch the anchor and chase after it (sounds like he is land based). Had the assistance of a run out tide though.
  7. Perhaps use 6 lb braid the next time you spool up - that will give you over 200m. Remember braid is typically a good bit stronger than the rated strain (provided your knots are good).
  8. I wouldn't have thought that was much of a solution, ie losing the fish.
  9. Posting the line capacity would be helpful. You went to the trouble of posting the specs but managed to leave the critical bit out. Speaking generally for saltwater fishing you want at least 200m of your chosen line. Your average target fish like salmon won't take much line, but it's possible a jewfish could spool you (often they will grab small lures) and are known for their big opening runs.
  10. Be wary of the ones on ebay - often they are composite with fiberglass in the middle. There is an Australian store which sell pure carbon fibre sheets. I'm not sure if the site rules allow me to mention the name. There are a variety of methods of cutting them. I think a compass divider is the best way. Allows for an infinite number of sizes. You file one point into a cutting edge. Wear a mask so you don't breathe the dust.
  11. You realise you can buy carbon fibre sheets and cut your own washers? One sheet will do several reels.
  12. I used overhead gear for snapper off the rocks. This was common practice in the days before braid. I fished 20lb line all the way through. No breakoffs from casting with 4oz leads. Routinely got 90 - 100m distance. The ABU 9000C was very popular for this sort of fishing.
  13. Yes if the swivel is finer in diameter than the line then it will cut it.
  14. He said 5oz. And it's the 60 lb leader that is breaking. That will easily cope with casting a 5oz lead. PS: it's a common rock fishing technique - long distance casting using a snapper lead.
  15. Seems rather odd that the strongest link is breaking. As has been suggested the only solution is to avoid snaggy areas. You want to be casting on to the sand or gravel areas.
