  1. I'm going over in july and was thinking a charter would be good too. Don't know anyone myself who has done it.. I did some internet searches...suggest you do the same as there were a few options. Cheers
  2. I agree with most that if the tide turns clash with dawn/dusk it is a great opportunity to score fish.. Because you are landbased and in Sydney....if you fish the harbour a likely catch could be bream. From my experience when fishing for bream in the cold conditions.... which i mainly fish for...it is best to fish at night for them at the turn of the tides and fish deep. Because this fishing is at night and at tide turns if the spot is suitable you could also target jewies. This is what i usually do...and it's sad to say that most of the time for every few bream there is a bust off of a jew which takes the bream bait on the light gear !!! you could try black fish too in the cold months but i'm not sure of the best time to fish them, maybe dawn/dusk and overcast days i've read on this forum is best. If in doubt ask a local tackle shop Cheers, Dom
  3. I agree Daleyboy, Long shanks do the trick and avoid the swivels, used black coloured swivels if needed and enjoy them..they're tasty
  4. You do mate, there's been a few reports on Fishraider of jew in the parra river from various landbased spots around wharfs like kissing point and other ferry wharfs. I my self on thursday night got busted off by a small jew (saw him on the surface before the line gave in) around 50 - 60 cm on 4lb gear fishing for bream. theres plenty of t alk re: jew and I can't wait to post a decent report of a good size school jew. If you ever want to try for jew, i am also landbased and would be keen to give it a go with you so PM. Cheers, Dom
  5. I am spewing about not getting the holiday...to those who did... it is deserved and enjoy it. I'm planning a sicky for thursday to capture some valuable fish time next week. Cheers
  6. Hey mate, There isn't much you can do i dont think...unless other raiders have experienced too many lost rods and have develop a great technique. I general leave my drag loose but don't normally target the bigger stuff where at times people think it's best to keep the drag tight... If you wanna keep the real in gear an idea just jumped to mind if on a wharf with say some kind of picketed fence that you lean the rod against.Maybe try an occy strap wrapped around the rod and onto a picket or post. The only problem is getting it off in a hurry when u've hooked up. I haven't physically tried it but i suppose you could work out a way to wrap it so it is tight enough to hold and easy enough to unwrap in a hurry. Also you need the post to tie off to which isn't always presented at some landbased spots. Cheers.. Dom
  7. Well done for a nice breambo! I also saw a similar thing sept this was a kingy. this guys road went flying out of the holder at a landbased spot i frequent and the show was unreal. You could see the kingy in the water out far still doing his runs...every so often the rod would rise back to the surface...then quickly sink..UNTIL he darted across to the point and some boys had about 10 lines out and got tangled in one..it was pure luck. In the end it was a joint effort to pull the lines that were tangled with the rod that was on the land but finally he landed a 65cm kingy
  8. Hi mate Not sure bout kingies so much..probably tho.. Do know that the salmon turn up in parts but probably best to try the cronulla beaches for salmon
  9. Hi Mate, I used to fish hacking regularly in the high school days and agree with most advice from other raiders above.. For you..being based on the city side of the water and looking to save time do what we used to do and pump nippers at Great Turriell Bay, we would score a heap. Not sure about it these days, pretty sure it isn't illegal tho. If you turn left into dean street..the map doesn't do it justice but there is a track in between 2 houses at the end of the loop facing the water which leads down a hill to the sand. pump here on low tide. They should stay alive for a few hours depending on which tide you wanna fish. careful of the stingrays that will most probably dart around your feet. We fished well for whiting and bream in the same small bay mostly and also took nippers to other places. I love the clarity of the hacking... it's truly a wonderful place to be even if the fish aren't on! <iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Dean+Street+caringbah&sll=-34.061388,151.11439&sspn=0.008355,0.013733&ie=UTF8&ll=-34.048819,151.11969&spn=0.008355,0.013733&t=h&z=14&output=embed"></iframe><br /><small><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=embed&hl=en&geocode=&q=Dean+Street+caringbah&sll=-34.061388,151.11439&sspn=0.008355,0.013733&ie=UTF8&ll=-34.048819,151.11969&spn=0.008355,0.013733&t=h&z=14" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">View Larger Map</a></small> Cheers, Dom Sorry here is another attempt at the map. <iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Dean+Street+caringbah&sll=-34.060606,151.1116&sspn=0.008355,0.013733&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=-34.059593,151.114926&spn=0.006222,0.00912&z=16&iwloc=A&output=embed"></iframe><br /><small><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=embed&hl=en&geocode=&q=Dean+Street+caringbah&sll=-34.060606,151.1116&sspn=0.008355,0.013733&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=-34.059593,151.114926&spn=0.006222,0.00912&z=16&iwloc=A" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">View Larger Map</a></small> http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source...=16&iwloc=A
  10. I take a similar approach and soak lines whilst flicking. breambos really do hook em selves try not to wonder to far whilst flicking in case a big boy takes it, has happened to me in the past Chicken strips coated in parmesan do the job well for me. Chicken is nice and strong which is what yo u want. Peeled prawns tho are good but are lease durable.
  11. Nice one... no sticky, smelly hands with the SPs...well gulps can be but not as much as filletted fish or prawns Were u working the SPs in the harbour? Always get the juvenile snapper there Dom
  12. hey mate, I do a lot of my fishing at night or wknds and solo most of the time. I'm one who wishes that work came second to fishing, unfortunately it isn't the case! If you suggest a night i'll try to be there, just send me a PM. Don't mind where and what we'd target. Cheers Dom
  13. I'd say the weather got the better of most of us around sydney. So bloody windy! Decided to try for some lizards at narrabeen lakes... found a semi sheltered area away from the wind. Fished predominantly SPs with a few hits but no hook ups, most people i spoke to hadn't been successful... Also got some worms for the whiting but no luck there. Thats fishing and it was agreat cause to be participating. Hope to hear other raiders who braved the wind..
  14. hey mate, If the pilli isn't producing try down whally's wharf i think it is consistent at night... anyone correct me if i am wrong cheers and good luck
  15. Big bream? sounds fun... For landbased stuff if driving try turning right off glebe point road it should take you to the other side of the bay opposite the fish markets. Or turn at the school - Blackwatlle bay campus near wentworth park and that road might take u closer to the water. At these spots you can walk along the water edge for a fair way. I haven't fished it myself but have seen the odd person there. There isn't much structure tho, as there is on the other side...from memory you may find a wharf or two... cheers and happy bream hunting!
  16. i'd have to agree most of the rock platforms would produce around here. Hopefully you got some medium - heavier gear for this kind of fishing. have fun!
  17. top stuff jeff, i must get done amongst the action in IC while it's still warm and good
  18. Fished the high tide this afternoon at Pier 2. Haven't fished here that much but today scored a pb bream at 40cms. She took the 4000 real with 12 pd line for a good few runs before surfacing and i was a happy chappy at that! As usual the piers 2 and 3 were busy. About 10 mins before i scored my bream a couple of fishos scored about 5 bream probably around 25 - 30cm, so they were on the bite at that point which was around 1/2 before the high- as usual the best time. Some guys on pier 2 were running around at the site of kings...i saw a couple of little guys on the surface after i went down for a look see. Sorry no pics - the camera is busted...it's been dropped too many times i think! Looking forward the the long weekend, less work - more fishing. Cheers
  19. Hey mate Haven't fished it much, mainly upper central coast in the lakes which is also good...but i've heard Stockton Breakwall produces some goods. Also underneath Swansea bridge if you can access it (had some mates say it is a bit dodgy to get down there) but there's other spots around close by. Good luck with the inlaws, hopefully the fishing treats you better- as long as the rain stays away! Easter is almost allwaaaaaays wet! Dom
  20. Interesting day there champ, Sorry I didn't get down there, I got home late last night after scoring countless reddies, some yakkas and a 25 cm bream I let go. Not a fan of the crowds , 30 + people agh...but what can ya do! Dom
  21. Nice to meet you lads too. We should plan something again some time I'm keen most weekends.. Dom
  22. Musty, From my experience in the hacking any of the bays (Dolans, Burranear Gunnamatta...with most holding some good deep pockets. Aim for those deeper holes otherwise all you will get is little reddies ( annoying ). Fish around these deeper areas just away from the drop offs and around moored boats and you usually do ok. Land based wally's wharf is good for squid at night... Spent a lot of my high school years fishing the hacking..love that place. Dom

    City Fishing

I might come and joing you guys, will see how birchgrove treats me this evening. Come down to louisa road tonight if you want James as I see you are a balmain local. You could catch some bait for tomorrow if the city doesn't produce and you don't mind dead but FRESH stuff. Almost always guaranteed there. Dom
  24. Heading to Birchgrove tonight if anyone is interested. (Louisa Road, other side from the ferry). Me and the missus will set up around the jetty. Will be soaking some livies out for bigger stuff and using the light gear for bream/blackies (favourites) and whatever else. Low tide is 9.30pm. I'll be there from around 6pm, bringing some snacks and coldies. Weather is said to be ok.. PM if interested
  25. Gday guys Was fishing under iron cove and noticed a guy and his wife up a bit from me (Rozelle side) pull in a massive mud crab. They were unable to land him, but the site was pretty cool. He took half a pillie and if they had access to the water they probably coulda landed him, better luck next time. We both left empty handed. later i soaked a line into the night for kingies/jewies at birchgrove with nothing. Cheers
