  1. Dieing to come back and catch some Kingies!!

  2. I fished in one of the main rivers of an area called " BA RIA" which is next to Vung Tau. Its definitely bream, I will have to take my camera next time.
  3. After 3 days I finally got a chance to go out and have a fish. I fished one of the main rivers in my area, just under the bridge. We went on a small vietnam style boats which took us out to a little shack sorta thing which just floats in the river. I have to say it was very very nice because I was out of the sun. I went there chasing barramundi as I have heard of people catching pretty big ones here. First hour or so I cast out some lures, No hits so I changed to using live prawns, got nothing at all. I decided to use worms that my uncle had bought and we started getting hits. First fish I caught was a tiny tiny baby jewfish, probably around 10cm. I was really surprised that jewfish actually exist in vietnam. They just call it a different name over here. I tossed it back in the water and kept fishing. After about an hour of no bites I got a decent hook up, A BREAM!!!.. I was so stoked! It was around 25cm, very very decent as alot of fish in Vietnam are Tiny. THe next couple of hours we just kept getting bream after bream, some small, some big, 25cm being the biggest. We stopped fishing around 4pm. Overall I thought it was a very interesting day. I am still chasing that big Barra. My cousin's mate had caught a 11kg barra the previous week so I am very envious of that person. I don't have any pictures because i forgot my Camera at home but I just thought I'd share my story with my people at home . Until next time I wish everyone a Good Christmas.

    Rod Tubes

Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask if anyone knows whats the maximum height a rod tube can be to bring rods overseas. As some people are aware, I am going to Vietnam in a few days so yea. I am pretty sure that my rods will be included in the " check in " luggage and not carry on luggage. I am travelling with Jet-star so if anyone knows then Id be greatful for the information because I have no idea.
  6. Vietnam in 4 days. Just stocked up on lures and braid. Hopefully there will be good fishing

  7. Your probably better heading to avoca. The water is still cold down south.
  8. My major is Health Service Management so it is to do with being a health manager. Good luck with your studies as well
  9. You should try fishing the night. So just before dusk and a couple of hours into the night.
  10. It is good to use good quality hooks but in my experience it becomes very costly. I'm not sure of how everyone else fishes for Groper but I tend to get snagged up ALOT and using expensive hooks makes it not worth it at all. I personally have never caught one but have seen people catch them. Then again it's personal preference, maybe I might start using top quality hooks when a Groper straightens mine.
  11. I feel ya pain mate. But that's fishing, I sometimes drive 2 hours up north and fish all night then come home with nothing. If you've been fishing since you were four then I am pretty sure you have alot of knowledge and experience. There have been many occasions where I don't catch anything. But it only makes me frustrated and I want to keep fishing until I catch something decent. What shits me the most is when everyone around me is hooking up and I am just standing there watching. Keep pushing on and I guarantee you will succeed. Good luck with it anyway

    Jigging Rods

I agree with the monster mesh. Its very strong and the price is reasonable. You can pick one up for around $300. As people have mentioned, I also advise to match your stella with a top quality rod, at the end of the day theres no point having top of the range reel and match it with an average rod.
  13. Just wanted to congratulate all the Uni students for completing this Semester. I myself am a 3rd year Student going onto my last semester of uni with a bachelor of health science at UWS penrith. I am very happy to say I passed all my subjects. Once again well done to everyone.
  14. So jealous. I haven't caught a flattie yet..
  15. Yea I checked it out but I figured it would be more feasible just to get a new tip for 75. Im leaving for Vietnam next week and don't have $300 to spare. Either way its supposed to be my estuary rod and I agree with the post above that Its not really advisable to bring that sort of gear onto the rocks.
  16. Before Jervis, around Kiama. I checked out the new T Curves today, they are supposedly not as good as the old ones. The blank is good but the guides are the same guides they use on the starlo stix, which are known to have problems. The rod is going to cost me 75 buks to replace the tip so gonna do that. However the Nitro is still on my mind for when I come back from Vietnam.
  17. I broke my Okuma Precision X Tournament Rod, 7Ft rated I think 4-7kg, Seriously, I am having very serious considerations about the NITRO . It is a bit pricey but you know how Sex the nitros are. Lifetime warranty... hmmm..... :)
  18. Sorry in advance as I have no photos. Me and my usual mates went down the coast this morning for a morning session. Water and weather was perfect. Gentle Winds and small swell. First 3 hours was very slow. Just as the tide turned, it picked up very well. We were getting salmon non stop, We threw all of them back as there was just too many. I have to say the Salmon here are on steroids, they are all monstrous with the smallest estimated about 2kgs. I manage to land one about 80cm. On a 4000 reel it was magical. After a few hours of Spinning, baiting, using lures, I decided to change to lighter gear to break in my new stradic ci4 2500 reel. Spooled it up with 10lb braid and fished the bottom with a small sinker for trevally. There was alot of trevally around ranging from all different sizes. I have to say I am very impressed with the Stradic. It is just so smooth and I can cast so far. I was using a small Mustad Penetrator hook with a little slice of yellowtail on it just chasing the trevs. I somehow managed to hook a big salmon and it gave me a heart attack when it striked. Fought the fish for about 5 minutes, they are literally on steroids I tell ya. Anyway 5-7 minutes later I managed to bring it up on the side of the rock ledge, little did I know that a wave came and washed it back down. In this quick 4 seconds my rod snapped. I couldn't believe it, It buckled at maximum capacity and because I was holding it too high i just heard this loud bang and the top part of my rod snapped completely. With the broken rod i still manage to land the fish, unhook it and chucked it back in. Overall it was a very good session as I haven't been out in months. Good to get that nice feeling back with your rod buckling and your screaming on light gear. With one of my favourite rods broken I am now in search for a replacement :)
  19. Just got back from Jervis Bay today. The weather was OK.. Rained first couple of days but it stopped for 2 days or so. The water looked a bit murky though. I tried throwing some lures out just of the wharf in St georges Basin. Didn't catch anything but still good to wet my line.
  20. I spoke to my uncle who lives in vung tau and he told me about the rock ledge I wanted to fish. He said there are some pretty big fish there but the current there is very strong. I am trying to re think my strategies of how I am going to fish there. And Definitely I will go to eat at the steak place. Thanks everyone for the info. Can't wait to go. Leaving in 2 weeks
  21. Slappin a Stradic

  22. If you spool your reel properly with braid, you will find that there won't be much knots etc. I recently switched over to using braid from fishing with mono for 2-3 years. SInce then I have never gone back to using mono. Braid will give you alot more casting distance and sensitivity. You can also fit alot more on your reel then you would with mono. There is alot of braid being sold on the market. Just make sure you purchase something decent otherwise it will cause you alot more hassle. Good luck with it anyway
