Sorry in advance as I have no photos. Me and my usual mates went down the coast this morning for a morning session. Water and weather was perfect. Gentle Winds and small swell. First 3 hours was very slow. Just as the tide turned, it picked up very well. We were getting salmon non stop, We threw all of them back as there was just too many. I have to say the Salmon here are on steroids, they are all monstrous with the smallest estimated about 2kgs. I manage to land one about 80cm. On a 4000 reel it was magical. After a few hours of Spinning, baiting, using lures, I decided to change to lighter gear to break in my new stradic ci4 2500 reel. Spooled it up with 10lb braid and fished the bottom with a small sinker for trevally. There was alot of trevally around ranging from all different sizes. I have to say I am very impressed with the Stradic. It is just so smooth and I can cast so far. I was using a small Mustad Penetrator hook with a little slice of yellowtail on it just chasing the trevs. I somehow managed to hook a big salmon and it gave me a heart attack when it striked. Fought the fish for about 5 minutes, they are literally on steroids I tell ya. Anyway 5-7 minutes later I managed to bring it up on the side of the rock ledge, little did I know that a wave came and washed it back down. In this quick 4 seconds my rod snapped. I couldn't believe it, It buckled at maximum capacity and because I was holding it too high i just heard this loud bang and the top part of my rod snapped completely. With the broken rod i still manage to land the fish, unhook it and chucked it back in. Overall it was a very good session as I haven't been out in months. Good to get that nice feeling back with your rod buckling and your screaming on light gear. With one of my favourite rods broken I am now in search for a replacement :)
