  1. 1400 HP I think the boat would do backflips.
  2. looked at buying an icebox and actually have one that i use for camping but as i am a cabinetmaker/jointer by trade i can get all the materials for nothing. also much nicer that it will custom fit my boat and look good. i find the ice box is too big for the room i have for it as i only have a 16 foot boat. Was only asking about the 15mm foam as i found some just the other day and was hoping to get that little bit more space out of it but i think i can sacrifice an extra 20mm for better insulation. I was thinking of using the 2 sides for storage and having the icebox in the middle but i'm not sure now. It will be 1300 long overall and about 300 by 300 wide and high. i reckon i can fit a few fish in that. maybe i will divide off either side for separate storage. hmmm still planning - i just want to get it right first time. Thanks for all the advice Jono

    Ice Box

Hey guys I'm currently in the process of making my own ice box/seat for the back of my boat, i have a choice of using either 15 or 25mm foam for it and was wondering if 15mm would be enough considering its going to have 12mm ply and its going to be glassed as well. so it will end up around 30mm thick aprox. Is this enough to keep the ice cool for a good day out on the water? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Jono
  4. Welcome Volitan I've fish the wharf sometimes during the holiday season, although normally just to get some live bait as it is a top spot for that, i have seen some guys catch good size bream there and the occasional flounder, just have to be at the right place at the right time i guess, good luck though. I think its a good spot there for prawns when they are running but i only heard that at go fish, never tried for them myself, i like my sleep too much
  5. does this mean with all boats or just with new boats, why would you have to change the stickers if its an older boat, don't quite understand the logic!!
  6. Will be used for kingfish, snapper and the odd jewie (hopefully), had a penn international and found it a little pain to move the line around to get it in even. Unfortunately it got stolen Probably won't be casting it as i use spin reels for that as they are better suited to that anyway.
  7. Hi Everyone Been given permission by my wonderful wife to buy a new reel , and was looking at getting an overhead. Like the saltist series but was wondering which one was better the regular saltist or the saltist lw not that keen on having to guide the line on myself or isn't that too much of a problem. Any advice would be appreciated Jono
  8. Thought Raiders would like this Lost a good rod over the back going over the wake of this ship, not fast either .... massive Ship looked taller than North Head, photo shore shows that. Enjoy Jono
  9. Thanks Raiders Now all i have to do is wait for payday Can;t wait to get out there and try them out How do you guys retrieve them - similar to plastics or diffferent.
  10. Hey Raiders I've been wanting to get into fishing with blade lures for a while now after hearing plenty of good things about them, just wondering though what brands are the best to start on and in what colours or doesn't it realy matter. Also are they generally a smaller lure? as most i have seen in the shops are pretty small. Any help would be appreciated Jono
  11. Awesome work there, know the charter your talking about and have been wanting to do it for ages, nice to see kings still been caught.
  12. Awesome work there - i got my first about a week ago not far from there - although i only got 1 so not as lucky as you were! Did you use the same jig for all of them?
  13. Next time i go out before i drop down any live squid i'm first gonna drop a live bait rig to see what's around as i hate wasting them to leatherjacket. I only cut off the jackets heads on the boat - filletted them at home - don't think that would be a problem with fisheries as there's no legal size to them so technically can't alter the size!! All other fish i do at the bait tables at the ramp - saves getting scales through the boat!
  14. On Barrenjoey opposite Lion Island - use some bread as burley and you will get heaps of yakka on live bait rigs with a little bit of squid or pilchard on each hook. wish i was fishing tomorrow
  15. Awesome flatties - nice to see the lake producing some good catches
  16. Sounds like a top afternoon - i went fishing this afternoon at reef d costi . s. Top photos as always RayR
  17. Gidday all Had a day off work today so thought i would head to the harbour and see if there were any kingy's still around. Got to the ramp (Tunks) around 5 and launched - first stop SB for bait, managed a few yakka but no squid so went to plan B - which didn't work either so i went of a hunch and tried off middle head and managed to get my first squid on an orange Yo-zuri jig. I was stoked!! The plan was originally north head but as conditions were pretty awefull we went to the WC and dropped the live squid ..... only to have it slaughtered by leatherjacket! Now absolutelty livid i thought ... Revenge and using a bait jig proceeded to catch around 15 leatherjacket - not of which went back in the water - using the jackets heads and guts as a burley trail i soon had a massive fish cruising around the boat which looked suspiciously like a samson fish but was not interested in taking anything a offered it. After this we tried a few other spots for nada headed home. Leatherjacket for an entre tonight - filletted and boned - perfect cocktail size Tasted awesome which somehow made the day worthwile - although even the worst day fishing is better than the best day at work!! Jono
  18. Nice flatties RayR What did they measure, didn't end up getting out yesterday otherwise i would of seen you out there. Looks like you had a good day.
  19. Do you eat the bonito and are they nice Caught one once in between the sydney heads - went really well as it was hooked on a 3'6 rod.
  20. Have one in pink but be careful as the leatherjacket love to eat all the dangly bits on them, all i have left of mine is the head - i believe you can buy new skirts for them. But i wouldn't drop one down if the leathers are around
  21. I built my own tank and used a through transom pump and it worked a treat, i just installed a water scoop this morning so it will fill up on the move.
  22. Hi All got my first Kingy last year landbased and with a free popper i got with a magazine - it was called a craterface. It now stuck on a Kingy's face or at least was permanently Was wondering what poppers are good for Kings and in what colours, was told that Halco Roosta's were good, is this true? Cheers Jono
  23. I bought a stiffy fat one a while back and it doesnt swim properly - just keeps looping all the time, haven't written it off yet though
  24. Had one of the green fishing shop traps and it worked a treat, lost it a while back though
