gday Jonny I'm keen to go, can you pm me the details
  2. there's a terrible spot on the nth side of the hawkesbury called Patonga. excellent facilities with both powered and non powered sites. great access to the main haunts of the hawkesbury like juno and F&S ( only 5 mins away). you can book through gosford council
  3. I'm keen to head up to Port Stephens to fish with the Broadbill guys in the new year to catch my first Marlin. The cost is approx $1050 including 3 days fishing and 3 nights accom. If anyone one is interested plaese let me know cheers Dave
  4. nah mate, I'll have to smash my own on the next charter!
  5. good session mate try emailing the pics to yourself and sezizing them that way. Or you can download a free program called image resizer
  6. We kicked off at about 730 at San souci wharf. On board with me was Nicko, impulse, Mrs Impulse and Terry. Condolences to Big Steve who couldn't make it due to his dad being real ill. Ross Hunter was the skipper and we had Jonny as the super deckie ( half man, half monkey, this guy is awesome). Met Stewy and his crew down there before they headeded out with Glenn aboard Billfisher. Great to meet you guys, and a big thanks to Stewy for helping me out over the past couple of days The lines were set to troll a variety of minnows and skirts and a rotating roster was established to give everyone a fair chance. Half way out to Browns, and we are on. Nicko grabs the rod and after a suprisingly short fight we have this aprrox 30kg beauty boated. Good stuff Nick! We were all pretty excited after that and anxiously watched the lines for any activity. Began cubing at Browns and drifted arouns until about 3 , when a pilly gets smashed and Mrs Impulse is up. She goes hard but is fighting an uphill battle againsta monster. Terry gave her a hand for some extra leverage on the rod, and about 15 minutes later we get some colour. Things are looking good when the beast decides to run again. Another 5 mins and its back to the boat. Ross is ready with the gaff but its still a good few metres out of reach. Another run and the YFT disappears again. By this stage Mrs Impulse is begging for mercy and wants to palm the rod off to Impulse. But the whole crew get behind her and encourage her to smash this fish ( C'mon Cilla, whats wrong with you!!!"). She bravely fights on and gets it bloody close to the boat. It looks big, maybe even bigger than Nickos but after half an hour of fighting it seems as though the 8/0 circle has worn a hole in its jaw and its away, safe to fight another day ( but probably not for a while). On the way back home, Terry lands a little stripey with no problems at all. We were back at the ramp a bit after 630pm. Ross made me promise not to say anything too unkind about him on here, so I'll have to save that for the next time I see him . He was a great host, with a huge repitoire of stories and songs that he'll play for you on guitar. And jonny a brilliant deckie. It was the first time any of us had been out that wide, or even game fished and I am sure that we will all be at it again. If anyone is looking for a charter, these guys come highly recommended. Hopefully I'll be out there again in the not to distant future
  7. LOL good report hope your phone sorts itself out
  8. hey geoff is that a webster twinfisher? nice ride!! I normally fish botany bay, although I'm still a novice. Last weekend was pretty productive. There is heaps of salmon lurking around, and the trevs are never far away. I know of a few kings that have been caught just outside the heads over the past couple of weeks too
  9. gday mate sorry to hear about your dad. I hope he pulls through ok.I know how keen you were to go smash some tuna too, so I feel your disapointment I'd suggest you ring the guys at Broadbill and let them know asap that you can't go. That way they might be able to fill your spot and you won't be stung with the $$ cheers dave
  10. I have found burleying hard over near the oil wharf will pretty much guarantee yakkas I have found them in between moll point and lapa as well. as for squid, i have had no luck yet, but will be trying over near lapa next time I head out
  11. thanks heaps for clearing that up for me fellas
  12. thats a good question outnumbered. I hope someone can shed some light on it. I would have thought they were the same thing, but then I really don't know sh$%. isn't the leader line mono anyhow? I would have thought the 120lb mono would have to be stronger than 80lb leader for pure breaking strength. can someone set me straight cheers dave
  13. haha johblow there are heaps about outside botany and sydney at the moment. not sure about off the beaches
  14. these guys aren't nearly as rough on the tooth as people had made out. This is the first time I had tried them. bleed them, fillet them, cut out the blood lines. melt some butter in a really hot fry pan squeeze some fresh lime juice over the fillets, then some salt and cracked pepper. throw them in the pan, with the heat still on super heat. cook for a minute or two each side enjoy
  15. I'm all for it. I've got 2 years of uni left and then we are out of here. My wife is a teacher, so hopefully we will both find work in most places of oz. I don't hate Sydney, but I hate a lot of the shit that comes with living in a major city.Especially the prices ( hence living in the western suburbs). I think it would be great to raise a family, in a much cleaner, friendly environment. Eventually kids are going to move out and move on wherever you live. I think it's more about providing certain values and quality of life for them, and for me personally, i believe I can do that outside of Sydney. good luck with your decision
  16. good post whitto, it something to get the grey matter working over
  17. Gday steve I have been wondering this too. A bloke at the local tackle store told me he usually catches them over near La peruse (near bare island) I had a crack at them on the weekend, but no joy. I'm really keen to hit some. both to eat myself, and for the kingies
  18. I would have loved to be out there again today. thats a monster trev! where abouts is your red spot? cheers dave
  19. ,good report MTC! I have been thinking of hiring an experienced guide to show me around Botany bay for a while, glad you could pick up a few tips. I'm sure you will learn heaps more from the members here too, I know I have!
  20. Lol, thanks guys, truly the water wan't to bad. Admittedly I had the adrenalin pumping ghasing the catch. Gio whats happening buddy? do you want to hit the bay next Monday?
  21. launched at mutch ave at 6am, the ramp was pumping with heaps of boats set to head out wide. weather was absolutely perfect. we went straight over to the bay east of bare island to try for some squid. tried for about 45mins but no luck. Any suggestions for catching squid in botany bay? we then went out through the heads and played with the salmon that were on the boil. I had my neighbour with me and he had an absolute ball with the salmon putting on a real show, jumping out everywhere. Back inside to the oil wharf for 2 squire ,going a bit over 40cm and a PB flathead going a bit over 60. I got a massive hit and then something took a good 20m of line. I struggled with it for a minute or two, but the dodgy bloody reel I was using had a shithouse drag and I could harly gain anything back, before I was busted off on 10 pound mono. maritime boat came and checked rego, life jackets etc before telling us to move as we were within 100m zone ( we were probably about 15m from the wharf along with about 20 other boats). We were told we could be placed on the terrorist register and could then have our houses raided for no reason and at anytime! we shifted to about 100m away to be safe from the register, anchored, burlied and through the bag with the fish in it back over the side. Saw the bag with the fish in it sinking to the bottom and realised I hadn't tied it back on. Had to dive in and swim down about 3m to save dinner. At least the water was warm. had a crack at 3rd runway for zip, then tried moll point and landed a couple of pike which went back in the drink. home and on the beers by about 230. We gave the M7 a run and it was awesome. so much easier to get to the bay, we will be using that fulltime from now on. Top day on the water, you wouldn't be dead for quids.
  22. thanks heaps Yoda I'll be up there in about 3 weeks time, so if you are about I'd love to catch up, shout you a beer and pick your brain on the area cheers dave
