  1. Top idea Stewy, a Chippo Bream round would be nice in Summer. Limits could be Liverpool Weir to Milperra bridge, or even further downstream. Sounds like fun. Mick.

That's the one mate. Yellowfin goby. Mick

Thanks Peter. You're right, a cross between a Grinner, Whiting, and Flathead. This was over 150mm, with different fins compared to the Flat-headed Gudgeon on that link you posted, the spot where I got it holds a lot of small flathead in Summer. That flatheaded Gudgeon seems to be found only in Sweet water. That could be it the pictures look close. Long Finned Goby is very close too, but I've just read they only grow to about 90mm... this was double that. Thanks to all who replied.

Any ideas, took a 2 inch powerbait grub in chippo. It's not a flathead, and felt slimy. Sorry bad photo. Mick
  5. For most estuary species, I don't strike too hard, I just lift the rod tip up quick enough to set the hooks, and keep the pressure on them... good hooks are a must. The run of a good fish against fighting drag pressure, in conjunction with good hooks, and the tension kept on by the angler, will get you fish. IMO you'll lose fish if you're jumpy and itchin to strike, whacking every bite you get. Try it next time: fish bites, weights there, lift and zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Mick
  6. I don't think so, both fresh and salt water fish like both scents. Try mixed vasoline with some Gulp scent, and spread it on your lures...... G Factor. Mick
  7. I love an unmatched fight eg. a school jew on 4lb and I love beating a PB. Some guys play Golf... some are into cars... some go hunting, guys (generally) just need their release, and for me (and all on FR) it's fishing. Sharing some fresh Jew or King with family or friend does satisfy our hunter gatherer instinct. Nothing beats having the phone on silent, and getting into a few. I truly get depressed when I haven't been fishing for more than about 10 days. Mick
  8. Nice rig, I might see you one day on the Hawkesbury. Announce on Fishraider when you're hitting the Hawkesbury next, and if I'm going the same time we'll share a spot or two. Mick

We hit it the other day. Some Bream and Flathead, and this: http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=55972 Mick
  10. I know it burns, I pulled the hooks on I suspect a 15-25kg jew about a month ago, fishing 7 inch jerk shads I got whacked and the run was unstoppable, then the fish stops, BIG headshakes and then I pulled the hook. I had the fish on for about a minute, even had the net between my legs ready, then lost it..... still haven't got over it properly. Mick
  11. Look mate, if I was you, I'd be down at your local tackle shop and beg them for work, tell them you'll work for free for a couple of shifts and if they like you they can have you. Mick
  12. Nick (SNAP-ER) and I come across a rogue float in chipping norton while kayaking, Nick seen the fish and he called it for a jewie, I've got my suspicions it was a big dirty carp. Too hard to grab the float. Mick
  13. From my wife, my brother in-law, my father in-law, my mother in-law, my mum, my dad,my grandmother, my next door neighbours, my work colleague, and myself... we thank you for such a tasty fish. I just had a slab the size of a leg of lamb and I'm stuffed. Was it worth getting in trouble off the for making a mess in the kitchen? absolutely! Mick
  14. What a way to blood the yak. Those PowerBait 2 inch grubs are top shelf. Dead low tide and a shady spot done it again, and boy weren't you lucky it took off to the deeper water. Can't believe what it done to your jighead. You've set the bar way too high for yourself. Mick
  15. Very sorry to hear of your loss, very sad indeed. Mick
  16. Thanks mate. I use anything from 90mm - 200mm, Cod love big lures. A 50cm Cods' mouth is as big as your fist. They often hit lures out of territorial aggression. Mick
  17. Thanks mate. It truly is an amazing place, and with dead timber as far as the eye could see, I can appreciate how Mulwala is the Murray Cod mecca of the world. My mates (Cheder) brother got a 33kg monster in the Cod Classic a few years back, he was disqualified because it died.... he would have won the comp if it had survived. I will be back. Mick
  18. I thought you had a 9lb yella on for a while there but it didn't eventuate... Sux to be you
  19. Thanks mate, get down south and that virginity of yours will be no longer.
  20. Fished Mulwala with some good mates over the weekend in search of Cod. The system is massive, and we were overwhelmed with where to start. Didn't take long to land this... No monster, but with timber everywhere there is no shortage of spots to try. Between us we got three Cod in the first day, Spinner Baits and large Hard Bods did the damage. Our view from our apartment was sensational The next day started off really slow and I only managed one We decided that it would be nice to get up early and stop in at Burrinjuck on the last day, this would break our trip up too. Burrinjuck is more familiar to us and it didn't take me long to land this on a TN60 Fell to a tight cast into this Fun weekend away, with about 7 Cod landed, 2 Yellowbelly, and a Carp on a Jackall. Mick
  21. Hahahahaha and that was the edited version.
  22. Knowing your luck you'll crack the 1300 mark I'll be in touch with details of a trip. Mick
  23. Good report mate, Carols Creek looks good with some water in it, my mate pulled a good Cod out of there last time we were there.
