  4. I caught a 32cm bream on day, gutted it there was 4 small snapper in its stomach, lol.
  5. Ive noticed that when using live baits that 7/10 time they get snagged up! I give them about a 1metre of line every now and again Should i not give out as much line for them to swim around freely or is it my rig? I use 20lb mono main line, ezyrig with a tear drop style sinker, down to a swivel, to 30lb leader, to one or two 4/0 hooks. Sorry if its a stupid question. Cheers, Zac
  6. Fish 'somewhere' today, from about 6pm to around 8:30pm, started off slow then every bait was getting smashed with miltiple hook ups between me and my cousin (22). About 25 tailor between us. Used a 30cm tailor as live bait but nothing took it. Most where tailor, couple of decent bream and baby snapper. Tailor ranging from 20cm to 50cm Bream :25 to 30cm Snapper : 8 to 19 Cheers, Zac
  7. Happy birthday mate!! All the best!
  8. Really i should be eating anything out of west of the bridge. I only eat plelagics and crabs (there to nice to resist) but i will take the odd flathead and blackfish home. But i will never touch any thing past east of iron cove bridge. Cheers every one, Zac
  9. Cheers, mate! Heres the pics Info: Claw:10cm Width (left to right):23cm Height (eye to bottom): 15 cm
  10. Decided to do something diffrent too day and chase some mullet as i saw some big spawning ones swimming around eating some bread i through in yesterday. Headed down to coles first to collect some bread 2 loafs(homebrand) for $2.20 not bad. Rig two rods up with a simple boby cork and a little hook with some bread on one and another with a running sinker to a size 1 suicide hook with some mullet on it. I threw some burley out, just bread crumbs, and waited. I was looking in the shallows when i saw some gars swimming past then out of no where a claw flew out from the weed bed catching a gar, on closer inspection it was a big mud crad! Any way rigged up a 30lb handline so it wouldnt snip the line, then on went a long slender plastic that looked like a gar, well to me it did. I cast it out, start a hopping mostion with the plastic, like an injured gar, it lands right on its nose..... its big claw snips it in half and eats one half, the half with the hook, i wait ..1...2..3 i strike it but not too hard, ive got it, only hard bit is dead sticking it up a 1.5m - 2m wall, im not going to risk it, i try and walk it to were i can TRY and scoop it into the bucket with out getting one of my fingers or toes nipped of. It was in about 10 cm-30cm of water and its legs and claws kept grabbing ahold of rocks and oysters.....SNAP the fricken line snapped!!!!! It quickly fleas away! :vio lent2: Then one of my mullet rods has got a serious bend in it (although its a floppy, noodle like rod) I go to stike it bang im on! The fight was very weird it was almost like it was gliding with serious weight. It comes closer It the very same mud crab!!!! Take two: I was dragging it on the surface, and every second metre it grabbed onto something and held on for dear life, i was using 8lb mono so i took it easy. 10-15 minutes later I had it some where i could jump down and get it. I was very very cautious with it didnt want to loose on of my fingers and toes(was wearing thongs) i got my fishing rod and held the crab still with the butt, i slid it into my bucket, it just fit in Packed up all my gear and headed home wiht a big smile on my face. Will post some pics up later or tomorrow morning unless i eat it Cheers, Zac
  11. Was fishing iron cove once last month, i was in about knee high water casting jerkshads for flatties i turn around to look into the water incase of jelly fish then i see a blue ringed octurpus swim straight past my leg I was shitting my self, it just touched my leg with a tenticle as it swam past! Oh well im still alive. Cheers, Zac
  12. Its a bit hard to say what fish it was. maybe say what bait you weere using, what it fought like, head shakes and stuff. Cheers, Zac
  13. Are the kings still in iron cove? I havent been out in a while, so i dont know I used poddy mullet when i got my 70cm kingy. But most of the time there smashing tiny shrimp or prawns, so try and find a lure that represents that. Christmas tree lures also work a treat! Try and catch some gars to, they love them. Give us a PM when your going out! Cheers, Zac
  14. Dont they make a SOL 4000 now?? Or is that old, never noticed it before.
  15. Yer i would say fish markets to?? Dont know much more places you can get them?
  16. Dont now if its true but maybe add abit of potato peels to your burley, apparently it sends them into a feeding frenzy ?? Read it in a fish ID book? Cheers, Zac
  17. Well down mate!! Trust me when you catch a decent sized on you'll be hooked onto them! What rig and line LB did you use?? Cheers, Zac
  18. I dont get what you mean?? Heres a crappy guide of how it works
  19. Right, i took your question the wrong way, sorry. You can set your drag to really light. Use a bait runner. Free spool it ( when there is not so much wind and current) Free spool with a rubber band about 10-20cm above the reel on the rod, with a loop in the line, then put under the rubber band, so if a fish runs with the bait, the line slips off and its in free spool. And im sure there is many more but i would be most comfortable using this. Cheers, Zac
  20. Ahhhhhhh, yes the beads, i forgot! Its a must for me. Cheers, Zac The ezy rigs proved (spelling) the advantage to change your sinker depending on the current ect, with out cutting you leader off and tying it again. But as said before a bead after te ezy rig is a must As tight as you want it to be, it dosent really matter it was designed to be ezy to change sinkers but still run up and dow the line without hassle Cheers, Zac
  21. Heres the rig. Sorry about crappy drawing. Cheers, Zac
  22. It might be better for you to star of with bait. But its up to you! Ill try and keep it simple! If you really keen to catch some kings, go in the daytime, but if you want some jewies then go at night. Main line: I would use 30-40lb braid or mono Leader 50-80lb leader mono or flurocarbon Hooks Size 4/0-6/0 would be good starter Mustard or Gamagatsu are top brands I mostly use size 4/0 and 6/0 Rod and Reels 10-15kg rod good quality Penn spinfisher 850 or 950 You can get some cheap Penn spinfisher combos, but dont get me wrong there top rods and reels for the price tag Rig There are many many rigs for kingys Mainline attached to a ezy rig, then attach a star/bomb/snapper sinker to the ezy rig, then the main line to a good quality swivel (not cheap crap) via a uni knot Then attach you leader of about 60cm - 1m to the swivel via a Uni knot. Then down to the hooks, for dead baits and fillets, snelled 4/0 and 6/0 but it also depends on what size the bait is. For live baits i would use 4/0 or 5/0 or 6/0 but again it depends on the size of the bait. Bait Squid, yakka, mullet , Tailor, Garfish, Octupus, cuttlefish , white bait, prawns, pilchard and many more, but this is there what they usual eat and are caught on. I will try and post up a pic of the rig and more info later Also try and get a copy of kingfish secrets (dont know if im aloud to say that?). Cheers, Zac
