I would say 200 - 300 should be fine. But i dont think really anything will rip 150+ metres of line let a lone spool you. Cheers, Zac

I would say 6lb -4lb flurocarbon but if your near structure i would go 6lbb - 12lb flurocarbon but it entirley up to you. I know a guy that uses 1lb braid and 2lb flurocarbon leader for bream and landed a 80cm flatty once but i havent talked to him in a while but imagine hooking a jewie or king on that gear!! lol Cheers, Zac

If your looking for a challange 300m 20lb braid ( just in case but you will probaly neever get spooled) 20 - 30lb leader, 10kg rod 7ft to 8ft, 4000 - 5000 sized reels and yer spinoutfit But i would use 30lb - 50lb braid, 15kg or 24kg spin rod 7ft boat or anything up to 10ft landbased, 6000 up to a 14000, leader 60lb - 100lb, strong knots, hooks and swivels. But one of my mates uses 80lb braid and 230lb leader and still gets busted of by kings ( in sydney harbour)!! Cheers, Zac

So roughly how big would it have been??

Went fishing on the jetty down the road, see if i can land a blackie or two. Got down, there was some wind but it was still fishable. Made up the burley, rigged up, couple hand fulls of burley now its a waiting game. Watching the float go past me nothing for half a hour, changed dept, within 10 mins got a down STRIKE!! The rod buckles over its a good fish, its pull line of the reel like no theres no tomorrow, 3 big dive for freedom... SNAP!! DAMN IT!! Rig up again, put some weed on, out it gos along with some burley, waiting waiting and waiting, The floats acting weird down then up again down, up so i strike and im baited. Put some more bait on but not a down for about 2 hours, oh well thats blackfishing, rigged up another rod paternoster rig snapper sinker on the bottom, size 10 suicide on the bottom and size 1 suicide on the top, peice of prawn on the bottom and a whole prawnon the top, nip nip BANG!! On to a good leatherajacket it nearly bricked me on the pylon, it somes up to the surface a 40cm six spine leatherjaket, after swearing to never eat a fish out of sydney harbour exept Jewies, kings and pelagics it goes back into the drink. put abit more prawn on. Im on again another leatherjacket, caught about 8 or 9 in the space of 30min biggest being 40cm smallest being 30cm, but there was a special on i had about 5 prawns left so i cut on up into small peices and put 4 on the size 1 suicide hook it gos down bang im on to a 33cm leatherjacket pull it up then see a big flash on silver swipe at the jaket, open the bail arm down the jacket goes.... BANG!!! It was a good fight a leatherjacket and the mystery fish it come up to the surface its a big tailor(well for iron cove), a 42cm tailor and a 33cm leatherjaket, decided to call it a day. What ever left over bait i usually have i always throw into the water i thro some chicken out hope fully some bream with have some thing to eat and i throw some bread into the shallow water then there is some good mullet, poddy mullet, and bream big and small boofying up on the surface eating the bread, so a quick run to the shops and buy some bread with in 5 min i caught 1 good sized mullet 4 poddys and 4 small bream. Then i dicided to keep the bread and head home. Sorry for it being so long and all fish where realesed. Cheers, Zac

Was thinking about going to parramatta to try and target some carp, but dont know anything about them except they love corn and they fight hard, so any tips. And will the rain have any affect on the fishing? Rigs and stuff like that, any info will be greatly apprecianted Cheers,Zac

My mate trevor caught a legal kingfish on weed and black fish gear!

Yer i thoght it was a 'monster' Fish, fair enough 80cm is big but not a monster. Some species of estuary cod can grow to a length of over 1.2m and weigh over 150kg in my books its big but not a monster

Just wondering what would be better to use?? My mate trevor is a diehard blackfish fisherman and is quite a good one, well almost because he fished last saturday and was getting down after down but wasnt hooking up so he try and tryed again and the same thing happend so after a good hour or so he checks his hook and the hook has no barb and is as blunt as a ....a... well you get the point, i started laughing my head off! Well back to the point yer trevor swears by braid because it floats on top of the water always get a good strike, but i found out that mono floats to (well i think it does?) So i was wondering what i should use for blackfish and what are the pros and cons of using braid or mono? Cheers, Zac
