  1. wow mate those are brilliant conditions, looks flat as a pancake haha would have been in trouble if you caught a fish that wanted to go for a bit of a run on 10metres of line Anyway good stuff and nice blue eye
  2. Wow mate thats awesome, im new to gamefishing and hav been given a job as a deckie on a boat called Tanoa and cant wait to get out to browns for my first run in the next few weeks. My dad owns a 5.6m quinnie and im just thinkin that would be quite exhilirating doin 50k's on the open sea, you must have been flying mate Anyway well done again sounds like it was a fabulous trip i hope i can get a few myself when i head out
  3. I can see where the government is coming from in their point of view, although completely banning recreational fishermen, regardless of experience, from taking their boats offshore is ridiculous. The government should be spending more money on educating inexperienced fishermen about the dangers of venturing offshore in smaller boats, although completely banning offshore access is completely and utterly stupid..
  4. Hi dogtooth, They look great but would you be able to tell me what the slimey tubes are actually used for and how they work?? I'm intrigued Cheers, JB
  5. well done mate some very nice fish there cheers, JB
  6. im pretty certain that's a frigate mate
  7. Hi mate i've got a holiday house in Swansea and to be honest I haven't seen a whole lot of tailor being caught from the breakwall while im up there, although there are major schools of salmon being hauled from around the breakwall every day for the past few months, these are good specimens ranging from 60-70+ cm and are engulfing the metal slices. I myself have never caught tailor from the breakwall but if there's any locals who have im sure theyll help you out. Cheers, JB
  8. Hi Raiders, I'm James and am 15 years old. I live in Gladesville, Sydney on the Parramata River and have fished since the age of four. The first time i ever went fishing was with my grandpa at Forster, and from that day on i was hooked for life. I continued to fish with my grandpa (even to this day) in his little 3.9m Stacer Runabout in both Lake Munmorah, and Lake Macquarie, where we own a holiday house. When I was 11 years old my parents bought a 5.6m Quinnie Spirit and as soon as i turned 12 i took my junior licence test, getting 100%, this was hoped for considering i had spent the previous 6 months reading nothing else but the waterways laws and fishing mags! In december 2008 I bought myself a little 12foot tinny and an old 15hp evinrude, so that myself and my partner in crime, Matt, could fish sydney harbour together. Him and myself spend our money on nothing but fishing gear and we always have competitions to see who can land the best fish when we go out, which is virtually every weekend. If anybody reads this and lives localy to me perhaps we could meet up and go for a fish some time? I'm always keen to make new friends who enjoy fishing as passionately as myself.
  9. well done mate there's some nice fin there, would have been great fun in the time that they were on. What sort of boat do you have and how was the trip back in the trying conditions? Cheers, JB
  10. haha yeah mate it was up at Lake Macquarie at 7am in January 2008 at about 7:30 in the morning. We got a holiday house at Swansea so i fish the lake in my little tinny and managed to hook the monster on a piece of mullet fillet at a special spot, sorry mate dont wanna sound selfish but dont really wanna disclose the exact location as i know it holds lots of breeding flathead and for their sake ill just say it was at the coon island end of the lake. Im only 15 years old so when i got it i was only 14, it was amazing to catch on 9pld line but yeah if you go up around lake macquarie at the right time the flatties are everywhere and theres quite a few of that size. hope i helped you out to a degree mate.
  11. Nice fish mate well done, but im not sure if you would have the record. I was fishing at Swansea in the school holidays and i got a 74cm 3.25kg on an Instinct baitfish profile. They are truly great fun on the 6pound gear arent they I will try and upload a pic but i admit that stupidly i never put the fish next to a measurement device as i was caught in the moment and decided to let the fish swim free again; only dawned upon me after i put him back that he could be record contender. Anyway mate well done just the same
  12. Hi Raiders, My dad, myself and a mate of mine are planning a trip outside to long reef and maybe a run out to browns or the FAD if weather permits. We have a fair load of pillies but are really keen to catch some fresh, live bait i.e squid slimies yakkas etc. Would any kind raiders be able to share their secrets on the best places around sydney harbour to catch these? Also the best method and prefererd time of day. We would be launching from little manly boat ramp at about 5:30 - 6:00am. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Cheers, James
  13. Hi all, After a week of fishing lake macquarie for bream and flathead we decided that we needed to catch something a bit more explosive. My dad and me took our small boat out to salts bay just near swansea bar chasing australian Salmon. We arrived to find a dozen or so boats all hooked up, and salmon jumping everywhere. This looks good, we thought to ourselves First hole pilly thrown out and i was on before i could stick the rod into the rod holder. Skulldragged him in on my 20pld gear and soon boated a 74cm, 3.25kg salmon who was happily released to swim again. After another dozen of those i decided to see if i could land a few on some metal spoons. Second cast of my spanyid maniac my 6pld bream gear was howling ! Catching a 3 kilo fish on 6pld line and a 2-3kg rod is no easy task!! After about 25 minutes and 6 laps of the boat we netted another beautiful model, similar to the others. By the time we had enough we had landed about 25 fish, all released except one, and lost countless more. A great way to cap off a brilliant week at the holiday house in swansea
  14. Hi Guys, I am interested in going out fishing to FAD's and offshore for YFT's with anybody who has a nice big offshore built boat. I am only 15 years old however I have been in boats since the age of 4 and have lots of experience as my dad owns a 6m quinnie spirit and I myself have bought a tinny with a 15 evinrude for zippin around the harbour. I am desperate to get offshore but i can't afford a fishing charter .... I could help out with fuel and bait to a degree and i also have some gear which may be useful. My experience in boats includes getting 100% in the junior licence test at the age of 12 and both driving and being 'anchorman' for my dad's larger boat, i am not just an extra useless man on board. Would be more than happy to put in my fair share of work to get a chance at nailing some nice offshore fish. Please don't ignore me because of my age, i have got some decent experience.. Based in Gladesville on the Parra River. Am only available on weekends due to schoool commitments. Cheers, James
  15. Thanks guys, we were actually trying for kingies originally but considering we couldn't get our hands on any livebait, also not knowing where the bait grounds were, we got to the point where we ended up fishing for whatever was biting... which still wasn't much. Does anybody else know any spots around sydney that are producing at the moment? I know its a bad time of the year but im desperate to catch a fish. We have a 6m Quintrex half cab so can take a fair hit from elements..
  16. Hi Guys, Headed out today for my well deserved and much anticipated fish in Botany Bay. Hit the water at about quarter to six and everything went downhill from there. We put the boat in the water, only to realise that we had forgotten to put in the bungs so up came the boat and bungs were put in; in went the boat again. We headed out to Molineaux point in the hope of finding a few lives (I've never fished botany bay before and was going on advice from other raiders), and managed nothing whatsoever besides one lonesome trevally. Boats around us were catching dozens of trevally but the little buggers just didnt seem to want our baits. Decided that Kurnell would be another possible option however at that moment the wind began to howl in the wrong direction and we couldnt fish anywhere near where we wanted to. Tried different spots throughout the day including runway three and also around the heads but for 8 hours of solid fishing managed only 1 trevally and an 8cm flatty. What am i doing wrong?????? Why did the fishing gods do this to me???
  17. Thanks mate, will take those into mind
  18. Hi Raiders, I'm heading out to Botany Bay on Monday and am keen on getting into a few kings and tailor if they're still around. As well as that i'm happy to target anything that bites but i was wondering if any of you could help me out. I've never fished botany bay before and any advice would be greeaatly appreciated as i'm very keen to get into a few kingies. I was wondering if anyone could help me by telling me where i could get livies in the bay and also the best method for catching them? Also any help on particular spots to target kings would make me the most grateful person in the world If anyone else is heading out perhaps well see each other. Thanks for the help guys, Tight Lines
  19. thanks guys i'll take those places into mind next time we head out, we canned the trip which was going to be this weekend due to unwanted weather conditions does anybody know if it would be worth trolling for light game i.e dollies, stipies etc. i am interested in catching something exotic and love bringing in the light game fish. I wouldn't be suprised if there's nothing due to the season however if anybody has had experiences to suggest otherwise would they be able to point me in the right direction?? thanks heaps guys
  20. Hi guys, I have a 6m Quinnie spirit and I was wondering if any of you could shed some light on a few decent fishing spots in the Sydney harbour area for this time of year. I dont want to go all the way out to the FAD but if anybody knows anywhere that's producing inside the harbour or just offshore towards long reef or down bondi way I'd love you to help me out. Im taking a friend out next week and neither of us have any idea where to go. Not sure what we'll target cos i dont know whats on at the moment somebody help me out pleassee .. thanks guys,
  21. Hey mate I'm not sure what anyone else would say but when i've been out targeting other species around sow and pig's reef near the heads the LJ's are the only things that i can manage to get on my line, they are in plague proportions. I suggest trying anywhere around Sow and Pigs reef and underneath the shipping channel markers towards the heads. Cheers
