  1. Atleast you had a fun day in the warm weather mate, thats the main thing. What do you mean by the old wharf? You talking about the oil wharf?
  2. Good on you dude. Its nice when you put in considerable effort to collect bait and land the fish you are targeting thats for sure.
  3. Cool thanks man, I was thinking of getting a lowrance too.
  4. Definitly the heavier Viper then. If you were to latch on to a 1m plus fish in rough country tho I would be getting something even bigger.
  5. Cool, thanks. Ill stick with the 12 then and see if I can get the quadra helix antenna if possible, if there available built in on a handheld.
  6. I hear GPS units cant find a signal sometimes or take a while. Will a 16 channel help this? Is 16 more accurate in positioning or same as 12? Sorry for these questions Ive just never used a GPS before.
  7. I use 14Lb Rapala braid which is very strong. This is good line. The Viper is a little heavier than the Magnum Butt. Depends on whether you like to fish light or heavy I suppose and what size fish your catching. I fish from a 4.8m runabout usually.
  8. Hi mate. I have a few of these rods. They are high quality and they perform really well. I use the Magnum Butt for small to medium kings and a 4000 size Twin Power. This is an awesome setup, I love it. The Viper wasnt released when I bought it but it would be a hard choice now for which one to get for kings between the Viper and Magnum Butt. It would come down to what your next biggest rod you own is. If its a big jump, then get the Viper. Dont be fooled tho, the Magnumn Butt is pretty powerful. Hope this helps you mate.
  9. Im looking at a few handheld GPS' and dont know whether its worth to go for a more expensive 16 channel over a 12. What is the difference and advantages of having 16? Thanks
  10. This type of scenario happens on my boat all the time. Most of my mates dont have the knowledge/ experience/ gear that I have so I mostly do things my way. We use my bait, lures, boat, electrics, i tie most of the knots, we use my techniques, fish in the places I take them to, tell them where to cast and how to cast, but when a fish is hooked say trolling, we have turns fighing them and whoever fights the fish says they CAUGHT it and they get the credit for it. I have no problems with this as I get just as much enjoyment watching someone fight a fish that I hunted than fighting the fish myself. PS. I have a feeling your A hehehehe. sorry.
  11. hey wildfish, which one did you get? Im looking at getting a Scotty aswell...
  12. What would be an average weight of a bomb needed to fish baits at around 20m?
  13. Nice mate. Over 65cm kings in Botany, I wouldnt be calling them small hahaha.
  14. Well I use 6Lb on my 2500 and 14Lb on the 4000. I dont know if thats more than what there rated for? Some people put more than what there reels are rated for because these days people are using small size reels to do the job of a big reel for the very reason that they can fit enough of a heavier line.
  15. Is it just me or is every question in this section generally about whether to get a Shimano or Daiwa? Hahaha Im guessing your after a smallish reel mate. I have recommended the Stradic to everyone here. I think in a small reel its the best you need. Your not going to be catching huge fish under heavy drag... If you want to get something more expensive like a Stella thats OK but I dont think its necessary. Save the big dollar reels for the bigger sizes where they are more needed. I own a few Daiwas and had a Certate but sold it and I can tell you the Shimano high end reels are equal or better in every area. PS. Wind knots come down to how much line you put on the reel. You cant put too much. ANY reel will have problems if you dont slightly underfill.
  16. I prefer the Shimano and the reasons I dont like the Caldia that much are; 1. The handle is a hard rubber and slippery compared to the twin power. 2. I dont like the drag click system and its too quiet Im not sure of the anti reverse on the Caldia but if its the same as the Capricorn then it plays up after a few years of use and goes backwards. I know this because i have the Capricorn.
  17. I have a soft spot for Shimano reels and those Firebloods look pretty nice. Cool name aswell- FIREBLOOD hehehe.
  18. Cool, thanks I didnt know about that. I ended up putting a one-way valve in mine but Ill drill a hole next time. Nice setup by the way wildfish. Plenty big, should work well.
  19. Hey how do you guys put the inlet at the bottom of the tank without siphoning all the water back out when the pump is off?
  20. Is it worth getting a GPS with 16 channels over 12? What is the advantage of 16?
  21. Ive been doing a bit of testing of my own and maybe saltwater and UV is not always the cause of line breaking way under its rating. I have the same 70Lb line as Netic tested here and have been testing it out a bit myself. Its brand new never used and it snaps at around 25kgs with my bimini twist same as what Netics did. Then I started pulling back and really loading up the 24kg rod against some serious drag, and winding down repeatedly over the same spot of line a few times and noticed the line fuzzing up a little where it goes over the line roller. I tested the line again and it snapped way under 25kgs, right where it met the line roller- NOT at the knot. So my conclusion is that normal usage on the line is goin to weaken it no matter what line it is. A big fish taking line under heavy drag is going to weaken it alot when the line has to travel around the roller at a sharp angle. This would be one advantage overheads have over eggbeaters....
  22. For that money a Stradic is the best I reckon. Thats what I use in the 2500 size and its my favourite reel even though i have more expensive ones in bigger sizes.
  23. 15- 20kg braid? This is heavy stuff. Definitly the 6000... The 4000 wont hold enough line either.
  24. Might be a good idea to give your spools a nice soaking of fresh water everytime you wash your reels
  25. Yes it will. Im not sure of the weight of your rod but I would go the Twin Power 4000 first, or Stradic if you dont mind a little extra "play" in the reel. The drag on the Symetre is not that great but still an ok reel. Your going to be targeting kings and snapper which are quality fish so get a quality reel, thats my opinion.
