  1. Thats a nice size king there mate I assume you were on a reef somewhere outside?? What bait/lure did you get him on?
  2. Nah, it wont work mate. The Rule pump doesnt self prime- ie it has to be submersed in water to pump. And even if it did, i dont think the fins inside would pump if its turning backwards. I didnt want to put my pump on the transom either, but there is no way I can think of unless you find a pump that will prime by itself.
  3. Hey mate. I reckon a Nitro Godzilla would be perfect. Thats what I use and there really good quality rods. Id say better than the T-curves for sure. Its probably about a 10-12kg rod. They come in roller or non roller aswell. What reel have you got?
  4. Ive been using my freshwater powerdrive in saltwater now for about 3 years and nothing has shown any signs of rusting and it has not missed a beat. I fitted it with a sacraficial anode but it has not eroded at all so to me that means it is not a necessity either.
  5. Does anyone know if you can get a handheld GPS/ chartplotter for fishing that can be loaded with a street map and be used as a car guide aswell?
  6. Ive found that you have to underfill the spool a little to prevent tangles and its fine. Try 1- 1.5mm from the lip on your 4000 I also take a washer off under the spool of my Shimano reels so the line packs onto the reel with a slight bias to the top edge like a daiwa spool. This helps aswell. Try these two things and see how you go.
  7. Nice catch there man. Those salmon are awesome fun on light gear arnt they? How many of you were fishing in the boat? Did you get a look at the size/type of baitfish they were feeding on? Just curious because the salmon we get inside at this time of year ignore metals.
  8. Ive tried them. There good except they rust alot easier than Gammakatsu and Owner. I rinse my Gammakatsu's in fresh water after use and reuse them and they dont rust, where the Black Magic ones do.
  9. Whats wrong with it? Is is it just the fact it has no map?
  10. Whats the advantage of the map? I dont know, never used one but I mean, if you want to get to 'a spot' the one without the map directs you the same doesnt it? Or does having a map make it easier to find spots?
  11. Im looking around for a GPS unit. I do have a boat but I will probably get a handheld unit so I can use it on my mates boats aswell. Are handheld good enough or are the boat mounted heaps better? Are they reliable? It will be used in the Harbour and Botany Bay mainly, but also offshore to locate reefs, fads etc and to save locations that I discover. I dont know whether its worth getting a mapped one or not. What do some of you guys think, going by what I will be using it for? I kind of like the Lowrance units are these alright? Thanks for any replys.
  12. I had a trip planned for Saturday aswell. Was gonna go out in the morning then decided the afternoon was better after looking at the reports. I look at buoy weather, sea breeze and the BOM and there all usually slightly different. Then I make my own prediction based on experience reading these reports. It was forcast on BOM for Saturday as 18-23Kts with higher gusts offshore in the morning and 1-1.5m seas, then easing in the afternoon. Sorry to say dude but what was predicted is pretty much what happen by the sounds of it. Sorry your day didnt turn out for ya, but you did the sensible thing and exactly what I would have done by turning straight back. Good luck next time and hope this bit of info helps you out man.
  13. So is a four stroke carby any louder than a four injected?
  14. One last question hehe. You say that old carby designs are much louder. What about carby four stokes compared to injected four strokes? Any difference in noise output? I basically want to know what is the quietest engine out the exhaust for trolling duties. Thanks guys.
  15. Nah, they burn heaps cleaner...
  16. What about injected two stokes in general. Are they quieter than a regular two stroke out the exhaust?
  17. Ive heard four strokes and they are WAY quieter than a two stroke above the water level. Im interested on how they sound under the water. Are they quieter than a 2 stroke out the exhast pipe? How much? Ive just never heard one when out of the water..
  18. Basically, pemium fuel has a higher octane rating than regular. Higher octane is needed to prevent engine damage due to detonation in high performace (high compression, high boost etc) engines. In my opinion, unless the manufacurer specifies premium fuel its a waste of money.
  19. ]The only thing I can think of is there is something wrong with the thread on the drag knob or the shaft. Check both. It may be dirty/clogged or cross threaded which means you have to replace the damaged part.
  20. I rekon you cant beat an unwieghted 3 inch stick bait. Metals work sometimes but alot of the time people hook up on these things by winding like crazy through the school and not actually hooking the fish in the mouth but just "jagging" them on the body somewhere by chance. Ive witnessed some charter boats in Sydney Harbour doing this for there customers- hooking up (jagging) then handing them the rod to fight the fish. Pretty lame if you ask me
  21. What didnt you like about the T-curve?
  22. OK, Ive recently purchased a 20000 Stella and am now searching for a matching rod. Ill be using this outfit to bait for kings in the harbour and some light outside work on tuna etc. I want a decent quality rod, 7 foot plus, preferably 2 piece and am willing to spend up to around $350 Im looking at the Shimano T-Curve Bluewater Spin 10-15 or 15-24kg. These rods are 7'6". Does anyone rate these rods? What do you guys recommend??
  23. Thanks for that info dude. I will be purchasing the Stella by the way.
  24. To cut braid the best tip is to put a little tension on the line as you cut it and it will cleanly every time
  25. Yeah I will be using braid. Just asked for a mono figure of each one to find out which holds more line. I think Ill be getting the Stella. Both reels seem as good as the other. The stella is a bit cheaper than the Saltiga aswell.
