  1. I thought you could use the new 180 mirage drive with older models? I was about to upgrade just the drive for my 2014 outback but given the cost of the drive itself I ended buying a new 2017 yak. I know the dealer said that new yak purchases would get priority over individual drive sales.
  2. Hi Brad, I have a hobie outback and have been transporting them on a 2007 corolla sedan with no problems over the past few years. I use a thule hullavator side loader and because the car is fairly close to the ground there's barely any lifting required to fit it into the kayak bracket from the ground. I would imagine any sedan with roof racks would be fairly similar. I've actually recently bought a new triton but have yet to fit it with roof racks. Will be interesting to see if it is more difficult to load or not. Have sent you a pm. Cheers, Joe

    George's River

Thanks Stewy. It was actually the first time I've fished it in maybe the past 4-6months. Have been busy targeting kingies elsewhere. Its good to know I always have the george's river fall back to boost morale again haha.

    George's River

Hi mate. Was fishing around Lugarno. Thats a nice catch too. Any size on those kingies? Shame on the weather over this weekend. Would have liked to do some more fishing.
  6. Hi everyone. Haven't posted in a while. I decided to change things up from my current objective of catching that 1metre kingfish after I lost a rod/reel recently. Went back to bread and butter species in the kayak in the george's river. I pretty much used the one soft plastic the whole morning, which was a wild prawn. Was supposed to launch at 530am but halfway to the ramp i forgot my sounder and battery pack. Launched at around 630am. Drifted in with the run-in tide and flicked at my usual drop-offs and the bream were on the bite today. Caught around 15 - 20 I stopped counting. Sizes ranged between 23 - 32cm. I kept 6 of the bigger specimens for the table. Had 2 flathead by-catch which were perfect table size and 2 small EPs. Finished fishing and home before the wind and rain. Cheers,
  7. Planning on a georges river trip Friday morning (weather permitting). Launching at 530AM from old ferry rd lugarno. Going to fish with sps and vibes. Hopefully finish before the rain and wind settles in.
  8. I agree with the leashes. I learnt the hard way. I lost a rod recently to what must have been a good sized king because i was lazy and didn't have enough leashes. Recently bought some cable ties, bungee cord and carabiners. They make for a cheap alternative to pre-made leashes. What area are you planning on fishing? Georges river is a pretty quiet, safe river system on weekdays (when there are no jet skis) to get started. Launching from revesby beach ramp and working the rocky shorelines/drop offs and bridges downstream (toward alfords pt bridge, como, tom ugly's and captain cook bridges will readily produce bream. The sand flats you'll encounter on the way are good for flatties. It's also protected from wind on most occasions.
  9. I finally have a weekend off work, let me know tomorrow if you are still keen. Would have to leave fairly early though have work early hours of monday.
  10. Hi mate, were you out again in the hacking on Tuesday? I think I might have seen you at the entrance to southwest arm. I was in the olive hobie. Nice catch and keep them coming! Joe
  11. Havn't fished port kembla before. Would be nice to give it a try. Working this weekend. Off next fri and sat though if youre still keen.
  12. Hey fellas. Have a day off work next Friday. So going for a yak session in the port hacking. Details below. All welcome to join. Date: 12/02/16 Time: 5:30AM Location: Port Hacking Launch Site: Wally's wharf Target species (Optional): Will be mainly using soft plastics for flathead and bream, some surface lures to try my luck at some whiting, may pump some nippers depending on how lazy I am feeling. Open to anything really.
  13. Thanks man. Took a while. Previous failed attempts involved me getting wet. I like this new method but don't know if it'll work again... haha
  14. This is the only species I have seen so far on my walks around Sydney. I'd assume you get them all around the mountains?
  15. Hi everyone, I've been in search of crayfish for sometime now. Because I go hiking regularly I often pass through small streams and creeks. I've spotted them on a few occasions previously last year but have not been successful with a capture. I spotted this fella on the other side of the stream and not wanting to get my feet wet I used my finger as bait to lure him across. He must have been hungry because he came across right up to me and was easily caught by hand and after a few snaps he was off on his way again. He was caught by hand using my pinky finger as a "lure" imitating a worm south of Sydney. No measurements taken but would have easily exceeded the 12cm carapace length. Cheers Joe
  16. Thanks for the info fellas. I ended up going windang given the conditions at the entrance and a report from my local tackle shop that the water was ok still at illawarra. Water is not too murky. But very few prawns. Managed around 50 prawns lol but not of any good size. It's kind of sad when you can actually count the number of prawns caught. Fished a little while waiting for the runout tide and managed 3 whiting that were probably just legal all thrown back. Thanks for the advice, maybe try my luck at the entrance another time.
  17. Thanks mate. Found them. I think I will try my luck anyway tonight and see how we go.
  18. Hi everyone, Just had a question regarding the rain and its effect on prawning. Bad? good? no effect? Was planning on going to the entrance or windang over the weekend but because of the drive a bit hesitant given how much rain we've had. Thanks! Joe
  19. All good mate. Pretty unremarkable morning out. Decided to try botany. Plagued by small snapper. Managed 3 bream ranging between 24 - 28. Couldn't get any squid. Water had a bit of debris in it and was a bit murky. No luck on the livie front.
  20. Hey yak crew, I finally have an opportunity to go out fishing in the yak after a long pause due to change in job. Was planning on either fishing early morning botany (launching from kurnell) or the port hacking (launching from Wally's wharf) or wherever takes my fancy. Will be fishing both sps and putting out some livies. If anyone wants to join me give me a shout. Cheers, Joe
  21. Awesome, thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Will go grab me some more lures this week. Cheers Joe
  22. Thanks man for the update.
  23. Hi everyone, If you had to pick your favourite lures for whiting, what would they be? Just starting out with this kind of fishing and need to expand my arsenal. Cheers, Joe
  24. Will probably head down on a weekday off work and give it a go. Thanks Geoff! Joe
  25. Hi everyone, Anyone launch from swallow rock boat ramp at Gray's Point before? Any comments on yak fishing in the area? Cheers, Joe
