  1. Abrasion resistence - extremely poor , but vary thin and smooth...... I try 25LB, may be different with 40LB
  2. Burley is the key inside the harbour , especially on boat , land base at least you get resident fish like jackets , bream around sturcture
  3. R H I luv the look on peoples faces when you throw a good fish back in the drink.....lol..rick -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- People jump up an down when I release those blue groper
  4. I does look like a groper, but somehow its different..... teeth, eye and skin. I guess its over 30 cm and it doesn't look like any protected type, such as cod and blue fish, as she mention it must be some kind of : " Wrasse of some sort?" Taste any good?
  5. Hi Luke Are you the gent fishing end of the rock platform and loss a shark after a long fight?
  6. I did many years ago....... no sleep for the night..... so much pain
  7. Hi all Due to cable error I keep having trouble to download photo, here a couple of repot 8/11/2014 Central Coast rock Swell 0.5M, Red and green crab and prawn - 3kg Groper and 1.5kg Red Mowong 1/11/2014 Avoca Rock Swell 1-1.5M , Plenty of Burly and prawn and had to work vary hard for one good fish
  8. Vary quiet...... swell been flat this weekend, I do manage a 40cm drummer 2 weeks ago.
  9. For me Drummer is even more illusive then say Groper ......... getting the right balance of swell and not killing myself still a learning curve , plus they prefer the low light condition mean get up earlier and stay late And for me 20-25lb mono, they love dive into the rock right under you, if they do so even 60lb will not able to draw them out, and b/c their smaller size compare to groper its easier for them to find the rock hole For me Groper I use 80lG braid or 40lb to 50lb mono for Blue and 25LB will do for brown groper
  10. May I ask what bait been use?
  11. Thank all,,,,, I give it a try and hopefully post up my first boat report
  12. Dear all My mate ask me to take them out -boat fishing, but the sad true is (1) They got a boat that fit 6 people and they went out a fish time catching nothing but donuts. (2) I never went put on a boat ( sea sick ) , as I am a rock fisherman .. drummer, groper, bream and Salmon even some kinges are my thing Need some advice, we are from Epping area Shall I take them to snow and pig or Box head/ Juno point and even west reef, all I need to do if to ensure they come home with something.......... nothing huge just a fun day Please advice where to launch for the spot, thx cheers
  13. Sunday look good for fishing (1) Cut prawn in half, peel off the shell otherwise, Leather jacket will steal the meat left you with shell and hook, expose the hook point, use shell and head as burley, 1.5 kg of prawn for 3 person (2) Forget about cook prawn - personally (3) floater only good for gang hook rig - Pilly for salmon and Talor, unless you targeting drummer but its difficult to find the right depth for starter, use size 1 - 2 ball sinker much better and easy to re-tie, use 20LB-30LB leader if main line too thin (4) Generally target 5-30 meter out, strict Zone for most rock fish, less than that = lost tackle, eel, small rock cod - ( depend on location ) (5) Also a tip is , when you wind the line back, lift the sinker up first by lifting the rod then wind, don't just wind back the sinker, if you feel the sinker is kind of stop , do the same thing: lift the rod don't just wind, imagine sinker running on rock ocean floor, sooner or later its going to stuck Wait for your fish report
  14. Mate, you reminded me of the time when I start fishing........ rock cod after rock cod, but the main thing is that you had started......... paternoster rig give you more feel but you need to get the line out further to avoid rock cod. Also try to prawn instead of pillies and squid, b/c drummer and groper don't eat them, Bream and travelly also love them, pay attention to tide and dawn and dust will help you get into the better fish.
