    Fads Off Botany

yeh ive so far been about 2-3km out in my boat was suprised to see alot of smaller boats out there as well, i do have an EPIRB on board my boat however i think i must invest in a 2way marine radio as well a GR100 just wont cut it in an emergancy
  3. this has to be the most insane post ive read ever a MARLIN! IN A HOBBIE damn i cannot imagine how hard that would of been
  4. Hey guys just curious as i've never been that far out before in my boat im thinking about maybe getting out there some time soon to the sydney east FAD im wanting to get into some dolly's now the previous owner of my boat was from QLD and was told that he used to take it out 50km for shore etc.. catching marlin and stuff however, as ive not been that far out in anything less than a 26ft boat im just wondering if my boat will be suited for it i have a Allycraft 535 5.3mtr runabout with a 70hp yamma its got a wide beam and has a pretty deep vee but im just wondering what you guys might have to say. from what ive found on DPI website the east sydney fad is only 9km from botany bay.
  5. wouldnt mind trying out avoca one day everyone seems to be cleaning up on bonito over there hehe ive never caught one my self
  6. how'd you cook the mowies i had a few of them not long ago cooked em up ate half of 1 fillet and yeh didnt really like the taste
  7. from my understanding its about the same as you just stated but i also tend to see more action in above 1010-1020 usuall under 1010 they get lazy or go into hiding but as its moving up and down between those it usually makes for good fishing. deek, my winch handle was no where to be seen oh well good thing the tyre iron fits haha
  8. sounds like you had some fun

as above and ill be there this weekend too
  10. yeh i also forgot to bring food n drink wit me fishn ahhaha so i was dehydrated and those beers went down very well ill definatly go out lil more organized next time i was just too keen haha forgot to add that when i got home i checked the barometric pressure n itwas under 1004 :/ which explained alot
  11. G'day guys. Ok first up i was suppose to take the boat out Monday arvo as i was stoked the barometric pressure was nice n high and my mate had been out all morning and he landed 3 50cm+ lizards 1 40cm trev and 3 35+cm bream. keen as i was ready to finish off work early n go out on the bay but had some bad luck last minute afternoon delivery that we need to do out passed hoxton park i thought shit there goes another 2.5hrs, needless to say fishing canceled for Monday. So still needing to get my weekly fishing fix i said ill go on Aussie day wit my mate didn't check the barometer this time as i just wanted to get out there, so 4am boats ready on my car ready and waiting for my mate to rock up he arrives we head out get to the bay load up the boat prep it up get in the water by 5:20am head over to the Hot water outlet to catch some livies as i have been keen to try my down-rigger out managed to get 2-3 yakkas before they stopped completely which was weird, i thought o well lets hit the heads on a slow troll with the yakkas on the down rigger so took about 1hr to get to the head of kernell and followed the gutter there down toward the south, stoped to take a look and my line as it un-cliped from the down rigger grabbed it but no weight bring it in to find my line was taken clean off :/ After that i said bugger this lets go up towards the reefs off coogee so full throtle up to coogee and try out luck there with a bit of reef bashing and still nothing other than a few little picks (which turned out to be leather jackets and there goes another bunch of hooks) stayed for about and hour or so everyone around was also saying there nothing around etc.. headed back in the bay to fish the break wall trolled that and come to a stop and decide to anchor up and just try catching some bream or something so we don't go home empty handed .. bring up my rod on the down rigger and my lines getting all twisted up etc.. (stupid monofiliment line i had put on the reel was all twisty) ended up taking off half the line from my reel and still getting all tangled and twisted up together, so i put the rod away and gave up on it till i get some braid or something with no memory on it started fishing with the good ole hand line bringing in yakkas that were abnormally huge im talking 30-40cm yakkas and because of the luck i was having that day i said o well ill just keep catching these out of 20 yakkas only 2 were live bait worthy as the rest were all in the 30-40 cm range. now being so persistent and wanting to get a fish on the down rigger my mate was falling asleep n i said nope gonna go for another troll now haha and still got nothing and decided to give up @ 3pm headed back in. got to the ramp my mate got down to grab my car comes to the ramp and realizes i got a flat Tyre on the rear DANG, could it get any worse? with my spare tyre being taken off the car for having a puncture i was tyreless so took the car to the nearest servo filled up the air and i see a big screw in the rear Tyre but the air was holding (the wait of the trailer must of let it all out) got back to the ramp reversed in went to my winch and what the heck ! my winch handle is gone! *sigh* what a day used a Tyre iron as the winch handle after driving my boat completely onto my trailer so not much winching was required but damn what a series of events. oh well got home with 20 big yakkas cleaned them filleted them and we ate yellow tail pan fried with flour for dinner and 8 beers to end the day.
  12. yer monday was a good day for fishn yesturday however suckd
  13. yeh thats the one haha thanks i forget the name of that place everytime

hahaha and to think iwas going to buy a small lil weather station thing with a barometer etc.. on it lol might just have to buy a tank and chuck in a yakka or some mullet see if they work the same or maybe get a kiddie pool fill with salt water and put in a kingfish so i can see when hes more active so i know if i should go fishn for em
