  4. haha good report bud hope ur not late for work
  5. Now few weeks back i scored my first bonito and ive heard by alot of people that they arnt that good eating, i beg to differ, i came up with this recipe as i was going along and it turned out to be the best tasting fish ive had in a very very long time and i had brought it to work for lunch with some of my work mates and even a NON fish eater enjoyed it. I don't know exact measurements unfortunately Firstly i caught the bonito at avoca beach prepared it straight away by bleeding it out not letting it touch any hot surfaces (as RayR told me) let it bleed out and gutted it once it was bled out fish just died so i put it into the esky with some ice. Now i skinned and filleted the fish and removed the centre bloodline and some flesh that had blood in it cut it up into say 5cm loins/portions gave them a quick light coat in some seasame oil, dipped them into some flour with lemon pepper seasoning. Then pan fried these portions in some chilli oil ( i have my own home made stuff from reallly hot peppers that were grown at home and have been sitting in olive oil for a 2months roughly *extremly hot*) depending on how spicy you want them i like it hot however i was bringing it to work so i used a few drops of my chilli oil ,some more seasame oil and tiny bit of olive oil in the pan just enough t let the portions just sit in the oil. when cooked tiny bit of lemon over them serve with salad in a thai style dressing (coriander, chilli, seasame oil + dash of balsamic) and ENJOY! Products used: Bonito fillets cut into loins boneless Flour Sesame Oil Chilli Oil (i use home made can use bought stuff too add as much as you can handle) lemon pepper seasoning olive oil (if needed as i only used few drops of sesame and chilli oil) Salad Mixed lettuce salad Dressed with corriander tiny bit of chilli balsamic vinegar sesame oil Sorry i cant write up a exact 100% recipe its all just stored in my head :/ Oh and as for the chilli you can add as much or as little as you like depending on how much you like chilli personally i love it and with these bonito portions were opnly JUST spicy and not burn your ass hot
  6. 5am u will still find heaps of spaces everyone usually gets there around that time last time i launched there i was there @ 3-4am and there was HEAPS of parking hell even when i left @ 1pm there was still a fair amount of parking
  7. yer personally the other sunnies give me headaches while wearing them :/ no idea why but yeh my mako sunnies were given to me so i didnt have to buy them else i would be using elcheapo however its taken me ages to get a pair of sunglasses that dont give me a headache in the sun or while moving
  8. sounds like a good idea and maybe get the newspapers involved in it too to show not all anglers are tools
  9. i would say lense quality is what varies personally i scored a pair of mako sunnies 3yrs ago worth $400 and they are my absolute favorite i have other sunnies but they would be nowhere near as good as my more expensive ones
  10. oh this is for the stickers i thought it was the measuring methods that the fisheries themselves used, i already knew those stickers were crap to be honest as i've measured snapper that was just legal shore based and fisheries checked it and it was 1cm under but he said i could keep it but as the fish was still alive i had thrown it back anyway and said to measure everything 1-2cm above the legal just to be 100% safe as the stickers arn't correct this was a few years back though so with knowing that i never kept any fish that was just legal unless it had 2+cm over the legal size but mostly chucked them back anyway, i think they should supply stainless rulers of 120cm in length that you can purchase from maritime/fisheries cheaply that you can attach to your boat with some rivett's or somthing thus no shrinkage and "should" give a more accurate reading.
  11. ive seen the mess at some of these wharfs and it is gross :/ and ive also seen people using the seats for cutting boards for their fish/bait etc.. which is even worse i think camera's need to be in place that are monitored constantly or gaurds should be placed at wharfs as they do at train stations etc.. these D*&^heads are giving anglers who give a sh*t about these things look extremely bad :/ its not only on the wharfs ive seen it done even under tom ugly's bridge, captain cook bridge public wharf, Avoca beach - Rocks, even at alot of the boat ramps its a bloody mess.
  12. bloody work always stuffs up a days fishing
  13. i seen alot of people eating fish from there, there is alot of bream etc.. of decent size however im unsure about eating from there it is more open to the bay but with all the boat traffic i probably wouldnt
  14. didnt see it dont really watch much tv what channel was it on might be able to grab a link from the web
  15. shore based ive managed to land my first shore based king at avoca beach - rocks with a dead yakka under a float but on my boat i land them with just a waited live bait yet to catch one on live squid on downrigger
  16. bonnies are beaut i got my first one few weeks back at avoca bled it straight away killed it waited for it to bleed out in the with ice over it in the esky made a massive mess but washed that out n left the fish minus guts on ice wit no blood i then filleted them and cut the centre blood line out as well and had them in smaller loins bit of flour cooked in chilli oil and seasame oil and ive been craving for it again ever since
  17. u tried next to the spit bridge? near the moorings i usually get some luck there on squid even uner the spit bridge

  20. i caught some of these few years back on pier 2 in the harbour 4 of them on 50lb hand line because all the rods were kitted out for bream etc.. and these things were smashn my rods n snapping the line i had some 50lb trace which i used as hand line with a long shank hook i sliced the crap outa my fingers not knowing what they were at the time each one was 60cm+ landed 3or4 of them they didnt taste anygood to be honest :/ but then again somone else had cooked them :/ i remember fisheries came up to check fish etc.. and were suprised to see my fish i asked them what the heck they were n was told by the fisheries officer that they were "black trevally" i could see the the similarity however i ended up looking them up later had a lil giggle too point is never try get them on a handline your hands will be sore for weeks bow do they have some power gear used bloodworm longshank mustad hook size 3/0 from what i remember and a tiny split shot with a small piece of prawn
