  1. Hi there, if you fish the Harbour, fish of the shore at the Zoo wharf, with floats, cast towards the wharf after midnight when the ferry stops, try different depths,
  2. Hello there, its been like that over the last few years, theres only one thing you can do other then keep on changing spots, and that is to use wire paternoster rigs attached to 10 mtrs of wire, make sure that you do not touch your main line with your fingers , and bring along a few more wire rigs because you will loose some rigs no matter what.
  3. Hello Chaps, need to know what you think about this boat , it will be running 1 200hp outboard, all those that have been to browns mountain what is your opinion of it for those sort of trips?
  4. thank you Bangus, do you catch lots of bream of there during Summer as well?
  5. Thank you chaps, great info , keep it coming
  6. Hello Chaps, Talk to anyone that goes fishing around Sydney and just about everyone loves to catch them, most of us can catch a good feed of them when they are running , but come winter you can waste allot of time looking for them using everything and end up coming home without even a bite, im not asking anyone to name your favorite spots , anything that you would like to share that might come in handy such as baits, tackle , rigs, tides , times, shallow or deep water, winter or summer. what are the best times for river, bay, rocks, or surf? ETC thank you all.
  7. Any one that catches as many flathead as you blokes must have a favorite way to cook them as well, how do you like yours cooked? thanks.
  8. Hi there, it all starts from the time that you catch them, keep them cool during transportation, use a large tray , not a bucket in a cool area , keep them in about 2 inches of water, and yes do use a pump , change the water every 12 hours, and do throw away the dead ones ,
  9. Thats how it is around Sydney these days, No matter where you end up someone will come and stop near you thinking that all the fish are right under your boat, and if theres two boats anchored up , WELL! that like hot chips to a seagull , thats when everyone thinks that theres a school of fish in the area and they all end up in the one spot, but thats okay, what makes me angry is when they think that its okay to come and anchor up 10 meters away from you, makes it hard to cast a rod , lines can and do get tangled , and fish usually move on , but the worse part is having to lookout constantly in case someone crashes into you, really people its that bad and worse , watch out when your out there,
  10. Nothing stops that same person to open up another account with a different name, email address etc, so you really can not stop those crooks administrator, or am i wrong?
  11. Hello chaps, we all know about the rules and regulations, and we hear from time to time how some people get caught, but really what are the fines? and im not talking about the maximum , what happens if you get caught with 1 fish just under the legal limit ? or a bag limit with 1 fish more then you should have? or 5 rods on your boat when you should only have 4, im sure allot of people would be interested, thank you All!.
  12. They can keep their snapper, kingfish , or even coral trout up north, in my books there is one, and the only one fish that makes my year , and that is not a soappy but a real river jewfish, the way they show up all silver, and the way they lie on their side when they had enough, and OOH! those shallow fried cutlets out of this world ,(life us good as it gets,) but then you know all about it ,
  13. hello chaps, don't want to spoil it for you but do remember that blue groper have been known to have that ciguatera at times ,
  14. those heads with the guts attached make top jew baits
  15. its all ways great to see a good catch of anything these days.
  16. hi there, it depends on the location ,most of the times i clean the fish at the spots that i fish, that way i can go straight home and start frying asap, nothing like freshly cooked fish,
  17. Hello chaps, i must have heard the same reactions dozens of times , but you know what , carp are really not as bad as most of as think they are, there are thousands if not billions of people that think they are okay , the chinese love them , so do allot of middle eastern countries, indians, pakistanies, bangladesies, slavs they all eat them, sure they will never be good enough for the local fish and chip shops that we are used to ,But if you caught them from a clean system, bled and iced them , then made them into a fish curry like i have had a couple of times from a friend that owned a curry restaurant, you would think differently, no i havent lost my mind , and no i am not doing it hard, we used to say the same thing about wirrah cod, and salmon, sweep, and even travelly in the 70s , look at us now, and yes they have been for sale at the markets and lots of other fish shops for over 10 years, trust me curried carp is not bad at all ,
  18. Hi there Chaps, the worst sort of eating fish caught on that day when nothing else (better)can be caught.............. can and will give you a very good feed of fish if ! .... you catch, bleed, gut and gill, then place in an ice slurry, then cook the way it should be cooked to bring out the best in it, i remember years ago when you could not find those parrot fish/ wrasse on a fish shop window, pike eels, sea carp, small size sweep, mados, old wifes, cat fish, they are all there now ,Why? because people know how to bring out the best in them, in the eighties travelly was classed almost as cat food here in Sydney, this days they stick a label calling it sashimmi grade and they charge over $10 for it, so i honestly can say that with the exseption of sea carp i will eat any other sort of fresh fish, it may be BBQ mullet ,curried fish heads, shallow fried sting ray, steamed wrasse, baked salmon , surgent baker rissoles, smoked large yellowtails and slimmies, its all stuff that i will eat again and again because they all taste very good if you prep it the right way, by the way i am a cook by trade.
  19. hi there , theres some folks that have better methods then mine, but my method works as well and it will not cost you much at all (1) you need to find some auto shops that will save their used spark plugs for you, you will also need black swivels, that cheap jarvis walker mono that you can pick up from B or k, and a box of cheap black strong size 1 hooks that you can also pick up at B### or K####, make up 2 dozen paternoster rigs and place them in those resealable lunch baggies that you can find at the supermarket, and go for them , cheap and very effective but you have to do the prep, no matter how many rigs the bite off all you have to do is take a fresh one out of the bag and your into them again, before you know it you have caught your bag limit, tight lines .
  20. hi there, i have caught this sort and the smaller striped ones as well, i personally dont eat them , but i have given them to an asian friend that asked me if i can catch some for him, he likes the smaller stripes ones but as for the ones you caught he doesnt like them, thats saying something,
  21. Hi there all raiders, im just a newby with a question what are the mercury levels in the seafood that gets caught in and around sydney, how safe in it for us to consume large amounts of it ? eg 4 meals of seafood a week, is there a website (oz) that explains it all , thank you all.
  22. Hi there, im new at this but if i might add , i also agree that you should report the nets where abouts to the fisheries , did it look like the net had been there for a long time? eg where the dead fish really starting to stink. if so it should be removed because it will continue catching fish , let us know what the fisheries had to say about it.
  23. Hi there Chaps, this is something that allot of us Sydney blokes would love to know, a (safe R spot ) meaning somewhere where you will stay alive if you practice caution, and you will not get covered with constant spray, the spot would have to be anywhere from Port Hacking to Avoca, and Chaps... only spots that you have fished personally , also can it get crowded and what have you caught there? thank you all .
  24. From A newbbie, Nice! VERRY nice! be careful with it and when you think its as safe as can be think again, tight lines.
