  3. While I was at SWR in July we had a couple of days where it was like glass and comming back in I noticed on the sounder it was only 1.2-2mts deep at low tide which was a surprise to me. They are great photo's. I have crossed most of the bars up and down the coast and I would say that SWR, Narooma and the Tweed are the worst. One day last Xmas I was heading out of the Tweed and the pressure waves on top of the 1.8mt outgoing tide had waves breaking 3mts high inside the breakwalls, great for the kids surfing not very good for pleasure craft trying to get out ihad 2 aborted attempts and the 3rd all in the timing made it out between sets once away from the river mouth there was only about a 1/2 mt swell.
  4. I spent a week at SWR in July this year and as stated you have to pick the right day to cross the bar, spend plenty of time studying it and ask the locals as to the line they take. Once outside you can expect Kingies at Fish Rock and Green Island down to the south and Snapper and other reef species up at Grassy about 9klm to the north we bagged out on Pearl Pearch 2 out of the 7 days we were there. At the moment the Dolphin fish are on at the FAD. One day we were having such a great time that by the time we got back to the ramp we had done 97klms. I think there were 3 camping areas there we were lucky and stayed in a mates relatives house. I cant offer any comment on Pt Stephens at this stage but I am heading up there early in the new year as a lead up to the trailerboat tournament in April. Pete

  6. Well I have done it, Booked accomodation. All I need now are a few tips and locations around the area, I have no problems with distance has anybody fished Broughton Island if so what are the best areas? Looking at Google Earth the western side of the Island looks very fishy.
  7. I have always worried about this happening, and over the 30 years I have been boating the worst thing that has happened to me is coming back and finding my winch cable and handle missing. Over the last couple of years I have been using a couple of deterents a hitch lock and a Klamp-it for the sake of $250 I think it has been money well spent
  8. I fished there 2 weeks ago and got a nice feed off Patonga just at the entrance to the creek remember of the shallow water!! then ended up on the Flathead grounds outside and bagged out most went about 45cm. just love those battered flattie filets Pete
  9. How far advanced did you have to book accomodation. what style did you go Caravan park or house
  10. Thinking of heading up to next years comp ( will be my first time ) and wondering if any body has entered before, any tips that might be helpful and traps for first timers to look out for.
  11. In my efforts to catch larger fish I tended to wander a bit further out than I would normally and found the 6ft aerial on my 27meg radio not suited to my task, so after discussing my situation with GME I installed a AE96 8 Ft aerial I now have no problems with reception out to 26naut miles, I also have a band splitter into a GME 954 radio cassete player and since going to the larger aerial I have solved the reception problems on the FM. Pete
