  5. A mate of mine had similar problems to you, we went to a boat ramp and once the boat was of the trailer we stripped the old rubber strip of the skids and replaced it with 10mm thick Teflon strips that we had measured and had cut. The only tools we required was a pair of pliers to remove the staples that held the rubber and a cordless screwdriver to drill and countersink holes to attatch with Stainless wood screws to the skids. Cost for materials was about $45.00. Purchased from DOTMAR at North Ryde. He has not had a problem with it since. Pete
  6. A few years back I instructed some Flood Rescue Courses for the SES, one at Lake Lyall near Lithgow and one at Ben Chiffley Dam at Bathurst they both had timber like that. Don't know what its like at the moment, as I said it was some time ago. Pete

  9. I have a 1984 J140TLCR 140hp Johno. I have had it since new on the back of the Haines. Last year I had a partial rebuild. I dropped rings in 1 cylynder and scored the bore quite bad. I pulled the power head off and a mate did the work. It would not hone out so he had 1 cylinder bored 1 oversized piston and rings new rings for the other 3 cylinders, bearings, new waterpump housing & impeller,Gaskets, fuel pump, Thermostats totaled out at $1600.00. The old girl is going as good as the day I got her. In April I had her up a Nelsons Bay for the Trailer Boat Comp 95 klms in 1 day did not miss a beat. Pete
  10. When I was growing up I could not get enough of Pirate movies. When I got my boat I would never be home and my grandmother would always ask how Pirate Pete was, and it just stuck. Pete

  13. G,day Dave, I am lucky enough to own a Haines V17L Cuddy with a Johnson 140hp. I fish reefs and still use it to Scuba dive. The worst fuel consumption I have had 3 divers 6 tanks and associated dive gear 1lt per klm at 3/4 to full throttle in flat conditions on a run to Broughton Island out of Port Stephens. speed 60 - 70kph from GPS. With the price of fuel going up I now am conscious of how far I push the throttle down and have now started more trolling. Last big trip I did at South West Rocks I logged 93 klms in a full day and used 40 lts for the day.
  14. #5 is Jin Carey from The Mask Thats Jim Carey

  16. Good evening all. I am a Communications Officer for the RTA in the traffic control room on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
  17. I have a Magellan Gold mounted on the dash of the Haines. On early morning starts when there is condensation on the screen it takes for ever to get a fix. Wipe the screen and dry it off and it gets a fix in 45 seconds. I managed to get a re-radiating aerial off Ebay for $40, problem fixed. Pete
  18. If you go to Sandbar there are several places you can head, south to Seal Rocks or north to Elizabeth, Bluey's or Boomerang beaches. I use to camp at Elizabeth Beach and always managed a feed. Have you learnt to read a beach? Look for gutters and sand banks are you using fresh bait??

    Fuel Prices

I went up to Port Stephens for the Trailer boat comp a couple of week ends ago, all up fuel towing up and back and 3 days fishing $413 that really hurt the hip pocket.
  20. It all depends on where he intends to use the boat, I think he is asking alot of that size motor for the gear he wants to carry(scuba). I have a 5.3mt boat with a 140hp and I can tell you that I dive and in my boat 2 divers and all equipment 2 tanks, weights etc takes of about 10kph of the top end and all that added weight sits a lot lower in the water. A small tinnie safety gear, dive gear a couple of passengers I think a 15hp would be under powered, not enough grunt to get you out of trouble. But thats just my opinion. Pete
  21. I was up there last weekend for the Trailer Boat Tournament. We had shocking weather 25-30knot winds from the west, made launching real interesting water straight over the transom and 4-5 mt seas very lumpy. We did not manage to weigh in any fish but bagged out all 3 days on Kings out at the lighthouse off Shark Island to the South and off Fingal Head. You can fish any of the Islands with results but if you are after big fish you have to venture further up to Broughton or around the Gibber thats about half way between Broughton and Seal Rocks. Purchase a copy of Stinker's fishing and Boating Guide it has spots and GPS marks on it cost $5 from the tourist info centre, or ask at the tackle shop across the road from BiLo at Nelson Bay. Hope this helps Pete I forgot to add that Go up to the Coastal Patrol Tower and have a talk with them about the conditions and if you ask nicely they may even let you use their Bino's to have a good look around from their vantage point. the chap I spoke to told me where the locals were catching the Kings Pete
  22. I own a V17L its great. Haines reintroduced it as the 530 Classic Pete
  23. I have 2 GME GX-294 27meg and a GMX GX-600 Vhf both great units and both run an 8ft aerial
  24. I had a similar problem and found that when who ever installed the original cabling they did not use the correct cable and it was corroded from battery terminal back. I got my hands on some Tinned Copper wire and changed every bit of cable I could find and have not had a problem since. Pete
