  3. Ben , I too am a bit confused like Matty when it comes to braid. I have yet to splool anything with braid however I will soon. So just to clarify.......Are you saying first mono backing, then the braid, then a metre of leader , then the trace? Why the metre of leader befor the trace?...thanks for the info
  4. Hey WT I like it when you guys put in some reference points in for me to see where you guys are fishing. I looked up your GPS marks...(bottom right corner) on my PC program and that is the cursor position. I have often wondered how accurate it is.........I guess the program must be accurate ...the GPS unit is what varies , I think I may finally be working it out
  5. Kelvin thats a fantastic fish It must have pulled like a train......Good onyou for sharing your knowledge and info with other Raiders! You're an inspiration to all of us!

  9. No smell at all Aron, nowhere near any hot pools.......this is a cold water spring. Hard to get a decent photo of the fish but here are a couple for an idea. Its firing apparently at the mouth of the stream
  10. Hi Raiders, we have a small parcel of "family land" (actually Whanau land) down in Rotorua and yesterday we had a family get together and we all went to see the site as we were discussing options for it future use. A stream runs through it with this really nice blue colour as it is a natural spring.....at least partly, and there were trout swimming up it.......do they feed when going up stream to spawn........??
  11. Had to laugh at this.......dont know why the title Hammerhead attacks Tarpon

  17. Well, I'll bet its been 3 months since I had a fish , so as it was my first RDO and the weather has been great I finally launched the 10 footer in at Browns Bay to head out for a fish. Still early in the season for snapps here and in hind sight should have taken some burley with me...........but I never do so out I went .... beautiful calm morning , so I was able to plane all the way to my pozzie Once there, threw some squid down and not a bite ........for ages.....this is why I shoulda brought the burley. To be honest I also took another rod that I was tossing SPs with as I am still to catch a fish on them and wasnt paying too much attention to my bait rod. I did actually get a bite tho... Eventually I was able to bring this baby up from 10metres I was just happy to be FINALLY back out on the water and glad I could give my Aunt and Uncle a feed for dinner...... ( I've never tried fish ) Cheers, Clutch
  18. A guy I work is from the Cook Islands and he recently had to go home for family matters and bought back the Cook Islands newspaper with an interesting artical on the front page. This guy caught the 200 kilo marlin from his outrigger which has a 4 horse motor on a handline. Way to go!

  20. Na Hooked my good man , its for hanging these makes me wonder where you were hanging out...... I posted this thinking it was a great bit of ingenuity that would be easy to build but I guess our fishing catches vary a great deal
  21. Heck, I think you have convinced me to take one of those charters with him Great Fish!!
  22. Hello Raiders, was perusing my NZ fishing site when I came across this easy to make smoker. I've been thinking about one for awhile now and this is one that even I can build This info is courtesy of "Joker" ...I'm sure he wont mind me sharing this with you. He went down to Super Cheap and bought a toolbox (the kind for the back of the Ute) for 72 bucks.......probably cheaper over there in OZ cut a hole for the gas ring at the bottom and bought a few baking trays which he attached. And he bought a stainless wood chip bowl You could hang the fish if you preferred.......and by lower the heat and placing them high.......for longer , you could get the cold smoke effect. Anyhow , hope this a5t6 least gives you some ideas
  23. Apparently not Flattie http://www.world-register.org/ships.htm
