  1. Gday all, wow boats galore heading out this morning, not much wind making for a nice run out. Got to the heads and counted 14 boats at the artificial, had a laugh and headed south looking at green water, new something was up as boat was.slowing, current was running uphill. Began in 80M with about 5kn of wind to almost none all day. Current was pushing north at q.ekn spoke to a mate who had 3kn wider. Water is green and 21.8 but still cold on the bottom. Fishing is slow still but they are there. Managed a couple of trag, pigs and two blue spot. Heaps of little lolly slimies around too. Interesting all fish are heavily in roe and most have full stomachs, the fish have been like this for.close to a month now are extremely late in letting go. When they do it there will be some fish about.
  2. Call themselves lucky, unfortunately these days every man and his dog can own a boat. Go to maratime get your license and away you go. Size of boat doesnt matter. Short story, friend Quantas pilot bought a boat close to 1hungy G. Done heaps of charter fishing here there and everywhere, been out on m8s boats etc etc. Time to buy me own boat... Rolls it off Ben Buckler. Two blokes in the water ,Makes Bondi Rescue, nearly dies. Luckily both ok , mentally up the creek without a paddle. And hes a pilot with no idea of the sea. It is more evident offshore now, no radio respect, no courtesy at sea and blokes venturing to browns and wider with no idea. I had to do over 3500hrs to gain a masters only to contend with boat license gooses who still dont know what side of the harbour they ahould be on. I feel your frustration every day my friend. Well done on helping.
  3. Hate to tell you after such an epic report, but m8 it aint a gemfish its a barracoutta, green boned pieces of sh!@. ?. Endemic of cold bottom, enjoy cooking it?. Then enjoy throwing it out?

    Cold Bottom?

I have been messaged a few times asking how i know how cold the bottom is, maybe some think im bs'n when i say its its 21 up top and 16 on the bottom. Heres what i use, a thermo gun. Point it at the sinker and it reads the temp. I also use it to check and calibrate my sounder temp.
  5. Cant believe there are hardly any raider reports, water still at 25 offshore purple water. Plenty of fish around and no of three solo tag jobs. Lots of fish tagged in less than 100M of water.
  6. Just wondering if any raiders fish the beaches at the entrance for jew and does it still fire these days?
  7. Water from 12M to over shelf varying between 25-26° this morning and that blue purple you love to see. Wind 15kn at the most from ene all morning, swell se at a and a metre and a secondary ne swell across the top. Current playing games at about a 1.5 at the 12M going sw and offshore at about 2. Not much on the radio and not alot of life today most boats working 80-120f.
  8. Good question. From what i understand way off shore. Im sure not many have seen juvenile kingfish which are yellow with black bands, next time you are offshore and see debris in the water wether weed or whatever have a look you may see them. They obviously stay out till rat size then move inshore. It is said they hunt at night in deeper water than move inshore during the day to rest. The tagging programme shows the fish can go anywhere doesnt really establish much as not all tagged fish have accoustic tags. Kingfish range all over Australia and down to tassie however they dont range from cape york to Brisbane. Water colour doesnt seem to faze them Temps dont seem to faze them although they say their ideal temp is 22°. Personally dont think we have a clue what they do out there lol
  9. Gday all, HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM... Who loves their prawns wether farmed or wild? Who loves to go prawning? What would happen if this suddenly stops, being unable to get Australian Produce and unable to go prawning? Today i found this in a kilo bag of tweed Bait plus another 15. If you dont know what it is then we are all in trouble and by the look of things it may have begun. It is white spot. Have already contacted bio security QLD and NSW FISHERIES and Tweed Bait. It has been introduced through imported prawns that are being used as bait has affected prawn farms in QLD, wild stock in Rivers and now appears to be in NSW as these prawns come from the Clarence and Macleay. So please if you open a packet of tweed prawns and find one as in photo contact all of above ASAP. DO NOT USE IMPORTED PRAWNS AS BAIT, THIS IS THE RESULT.
  10. Gday all, Once again the harbour was glass this morning, and quit a few boats on the move. Looked a great run to the heads and even better when out . Swell had totally decreased from yesterday, current hadnt changed, the water in close was green but the further out you went the more blue it became. Went south again towards Maroubra, dolphins doing barrel rolls through the air, breezes of bait all over, little makos cruising the surface here and there, water had life, things are a changing. Started in 80M and within 5 minutes onto a solid mowie at 64 and it continued, snapper, pigfish, huge nannygai and plenty of rubbish. Water is still cold on the bottom sinkers read 17°, besides pick axes were coming up and pike, but the bite was voracious from 7 -11, then died. May have something to do with the southerly tomorrow or they were just hungry, bit perplexed, cold bottom is a general shutdown. Going to have to look at old records of mine for answers. Best part of the day was having a bait ball surround the boat and watching a striped marlin playing games amongst it for1/2 an hour, the speed at which this beakie could accelerate from a standing start was breathtaking and to see it stop just as quick and cruise around mesmerized me. I think theres a change in the air, especially those that like stickfaces!
  11. Marlin galore lol, bait station, front of Browns, plenty of fish about today and many lost. Fishing off Maroubra bait everywhere in 80m, looked across to see a dorsal thought it was a shark till its tail come up and it was a stripey balling bait on the surface lol....nothing to throw at it. Sure some reports will filter through.
  12. Back to the same place as today lol
  13. Around Browns. The current is well and truly on its way, lots of little blacks off Queenie, and a few blues have been lost lately off Sydney.
  14. Gday all, hit the harbour this morning to glass all the way to the heads and only a handful of boats out and about. Quite cold on the water this morning and the harbour had a slight mist. Reached the heads and things looked ok. About a metre of easterly swell was running quite close but enough not to be sharp. No real wind to worry so went south today. Wow what a view looking back today. Although ive seen them many times before todays see mist was quite eerie. It sat perfectly at the same height all day, at one stage there was an illusion of land created that extended from Barenjoey to dead east. Number one sign for a hot day . Must say the water in close is still green but temps again from 21°-22.9. A little less current than tuesday but still at 1.5kn downhill. Water still cold on the bottom only up half a degree to 17.5. Fishing has improved though, finally landed a couple of nice blue spots at 76, some good pigfish and a few mowies. Plenty of just undersize snapper and more sweep than you could throw a stick at. They are there but slow to bite. Out again tomorrow see what happens. Spoke to a M8 today who works in a tackle shop and is one hell of a good rockfisho. Has the body of a 25yrold musclehead yet hes late 50s. Loves fishing for bream but is getting smashed by kings everyday off julienne. Also for you blokes who fish Botany Bay, kings are plaguing and have been for weeks biggest fish he has seen is 15kg, all fish are being caught downrigging.
  15. One stripe just tagged and a dropped blue just over the radio. Fish this morning were tagged and lost on the high tide all before 10am. Water out wide is varying in temp from 20- 21.9. Water dirty in a few places and blue in others. A few other fished raised but dont know the results
  16. Gday all, bit of a late one but ya get that. Conditions off Sydney have not improved. Current from the North running at nearly 2kn from 30- 70M ,water green and at 22.9. Had no wind all arvo seas 1M from the east. Fishing still the same water cold on bottom, had 17 ° today. The sounder is full of fish but they just dont want to play. Ended up with a coupla mowies and pigs that was it. As ive said before its just a sh@# time of year to fish outside.
  17. blackfish angler i forgot to add dropped into manly wharf at around 9, 3 blokes there with our friends poles absolutely donging your name they would of had at least 30 fish all easy size and a bit all being caught on bread. As for the flatties havnt found any of size lately and it is the first time i have come in after start. Have fished it many a time but always come in about halfa after start. Wont do that again lol.
  18. Gday all, glorious morning on the harbour today almost glass to the heads and about 3 boats out lol. Schools of tailor busting everywhere from Fort Deno through to Wattos all little schools here and there. Headed out and swell seemed ok about 1-1.5 from the east Headed north to the 80s beautiful blue water at 21° but the bottom is still disgracefully cold. Current about .8kn downhill. Little doing so after 20 min moved in to the early 60s interesting water turned abit but jumped up in temp nearly 2° too 22.9. But colour got worse and the fish improved a little, couple of flatties and one buckled rod that went beserk then died with half a sargeant baker on a hook, mako lurking. So grabbed what was left of the baker threw it on to a shark trace and lobbed it in. No mako. Nothing much eventuated for the day, a blurter, 2 pan size snapper and 3 flatties that was it. Headed back in to the brothel that was the Syd to Hobart. Now the boat traffic rivals the M4 eastbound on any given day, mix with that the gooses who take their boat out twice a year next one is New Years and have no idea ... mix into that 1 absolute spastic on a kayak in amongst it love sydney boaties..
  19. Gday all, got up to a little breeze this morning and thought hope this doesnt strengthen. By the time we launched wind was almost non existent on the harbour. Got to the heads and hardly a lump to be seen. What swell there was came from the east at less than a half metre. Water a nice blue and nearly at 22°. Bit of current to the south at under a knot. Water on the bottom cold around 17°. Fishing again hard due to the cold on the bottom Sarted in the seventies and stayed there most of the day just moving through marks. Some nice fish around but couldnt find any flatties, i think there in a bit closer. Few reds still around plenty of newcastle bream and pike and a few other mixed things. Heres a shot of the best. Nice nanny and a huge gurnard.
  20. Nice mix there Scratchie nice to see pearlies making a comeback up there too. Once in plague proportions hopefully again. I have an interesting pic of the bathymetry surrounding Broughton. Some very interesting spots on it. Well done. The jack looks the same size as the ones we get off Sydney.
  21. Seems a few fish over the weekend, know of one striped taken off Botany, another tagged at 9 mile and a blue?
  22. Mike they dont appear to be fussy, caught on fresh yakka strip and Hawesbury prawns. Actually not a great deal in there more sweep than anything, neighbours were happy, kept a trag palmed the rest.
  23. Yes big neil they is trag. As a kid they were a mythical fish, they recs and pros wiped them off sydney in the 80s. Wasnt till 3odd year ago we started to get them. Bit guilty with that lot as they were.all females developing roe. So next time we agreed 1 each. We bake em up. GordoRetired yes a few blue spots, arrow squid it is and the newcastle bream. Must be eaten that day, just bleed em straight on ice, filleted egg and breadcrumb. Old girl next door loves em. Me last resort. I am told they taste better from swansea up and bellambi down?
  24. Gday all, well december just doesnt change. It is a notorious month of Sydney and with the weather we have had it makes it even harder. Fishing this time of year is either good or bad , the water is warm up top but cold still on the bottom. Temps today up top varied from 21-22°. But down the bottom it is around 18°. Water varies from deep blue to green and cloudy. Swell had dropped from yesterday and fell even further by 11am to around a M from 3. Still very sloppy this morning. Wind a strong Nor easter swung east again around 11 and calmed a bit. Fishing wise, hard but rewarding. Started a little closer at 75M today and that was a waste of time nothing around just a few pike. Moved into the 60s and things started to improve some.. few blue spots and a nice pig. Persisted untill the wind change and things really moved along, lost a fantastic fish and my M8s rod loads up and in comes a trag at 60. Filthy i am and someones laughing behind me, quickly look at the sounder and theres a school there, but we have passed the back so we quickly get our lines in and go back past the mark. Drop down and on up come 2 more at 61 and 62, then another two more at 62 and one at 40. Well, well, well no more after that. School was still there but we had enough. Moved inside our last run and managed a few more flafties. Called it quits at 1200, and quickly stopped on the way home to check out those extreme cats. Fellas those things fly.
