  11. Awesome catch there jenno! Well done man! Your getting me all geed up now to Got a feeling must be some bigger ones moving in. U catch that in the bay?
  12. Nice report hucho.. Double bonus u caught the fish u lost initially and got your vibe back. I also love those vibe lewers just havnt used them enough to catch fish. Keen to give lewers a better crack but i tend to sick to the old fashioned bait technique.
  13. Would love to feel the fight of a bream that big! Awesome catch there!
  14. I use a 2 hook snell most times as well or sometimes 2 hooks with one hook running free being the top hook I find this rig easier to rig pilchards. Though do use snell hook set up mostly last few sessions. I put the bottom hook through the eye of pilchard and the top hook up near the tail through the back bone, then tie a loop around the tail of the pilchard this normally keeps the bait on pretty solid. I also use a gang hook at times. Would be great to have a diagram of that ball bearing swivel rig to... im struggling to figure out how it works. Sounds interesting. Also wouldn't mind giving it a go from the beach if looks easy enough to rig up?
  15. Thanks jenno. Really dont think il get a pb close to that squid again. If inside the bay your referring to is botany bay then no mate have never fished much that way. Cheers hucho, all squid caught around the pittwater area Cheers bud, always got a back up plan if plan A fails . Me and the Mrs love to fish and shes actually pretty good at it. Most of the time im normally the one saying lets go cause got work the next day :1onono:in a perfect world there would be no work just fishing. Haha thanks Ryder it sure did look like some kind of space craft cruising through the water at first glance. Will be reliving this catch for a while id imagine. Haha Cheers T.C not bad legs are they?
  16. Ended up going for a fish yesterday arvo with the mrs even though I knew the conditions weren't good. Was beginning to get an itch to get out and hit a decent gutter. Got to our location, was little windy and white wash pretty much all up and down the beach. To my surprise there were couple fishos there already braving the conditions good on em I thought even if they were fishing in my normal spot seems to always be a good gutter in this specific spot. Yesterday was no exception, as looked like the only decent gutter on the beach. Anyways me and the mrs decided to hav a go. We could see some kind of break in the waves just to the right of where the other guys were fishing and some deeper water. Contemplated for a couple mins if we should or not or go somewhere else. We decided would throw a line since we were already there and had planned to catch squid just after dark if the bites on the beach weren't on anyways. Well as predicted the bite on the beach was pretty poor. Brought in my line once without bait... every other cast hardly got a touch! I put this down to the swell playing a major factor as from experience i normally only hav good beach sessions when swell isn't so high. I could be wrong but I just find the swell really effects my beach fishing experience. The mrs and I both said to each other we've fished couple hours now and nothin, few more casts and we would pack it up and try search for some squid on the way back. The other guys fishing started packing up to so don't think was just us not getting any. Got to the squiding spot and water was little choppy due to prob the swell but mainly the slight bit of wind. Didn't look like there were too many squid hanging around, even tho for the first time we had arrived at the right time for squidding just as was getting dark. At first saw couple little ones swimming out form under the pylons, think the choppy water may hav been putting em off the bite and weren't going for the jig. Not too long after my mrs pulled in the first squid and then I pulled in one not long after that. About 10 mins later the chop on the water eased up and the squid came onto the bite. Caught a couple jigging deeper sections but also caught a couple bigger ones that were hanging around on the surface pretty much cast in front of them and they went for it couldn't get much easier. Dropped a couple and so did the mrs but she definatley dropped the biggest one. She was brining in what she thought was weed, as she brought it up she noticed massive ink spray in the water and then it clicked to her that it was a squid that came off! She was spewing cause she realised she had it hooked somewhat but it came off. I didn't see this happen at first but I did believe her as the evidence of a missed squid catch and massive ink stain in the water clearly present. Never seen so much ink in the water from one squid! so immediately thought that must be something big for sure. So anyways not long after that she says there it is again! I then see this shape in the water coming from the deeper section of the area it looked like a sting ray I couldn't make it out, and as was getting closer could tell was swimming like a squid. Thought to myself wat the hell is that! and as it got closer to the light of my head torch the beam of the light seemed to spook it off. Damn! I immediately got my favourite jig out that I always catch bigger squid with, it's a 2.5 glow jig, and I casted into the deeper section and just let it sink and worked it bak slowly off the bottom, really slow as slow as I could with a 2.5 jig. Second cast and real slow again. All of a sudden I feel this heavy weight on my line, thought to my self no way! split second I thought snag and than instantly after that I'm like no it's a squid and it started pulling drag like I never felt squid pull drag before! Omg! How good is it to feel a squid pull drag like that. Was so excited for the rest of the night even till now as u can probably tell. We caught about 9 squid all up but only took photos of these earlier ones, didn't even think would get more after the first few but we kept casting and kept pulling em in every now and then until it went a little quiet. We decide we had enough bait and even some more to eat for left overs. Just don't know how to cook squid so thick? Overall was good to be out fishing even if we didn't catch any fish that day, was just good to wet couple lines. The squid success at the end was a massive bonus but just good to get out of the house and away from work.. Sorry for the long post
  17. Nice catch there JT! Good to know that salmon is a good reliable bait to use. Was hoping to catch a salmon yesterday to use. Went to one of my normal beach fishing spots yesterday tho the current was pretty strong and not many fish on the bite, caught some nice squid tho on the way home including a massive calamari that was a about 33cm and that was just the hood. Will put a post soon at work now Unfortunatley
  18. Sounds like a top little sesh there Razz! Well Done.
  19. Awesome to know tef1on! I will definitely be trying out some of those salmon slabs very soon. Wanted to get out today but just checked willy weather and noticed wind isn't too bad today but the swell is ridiculous it's over 3m, really don't like fishing off the surf with those swells. I tend not too have much luck off the beach when the swells up. Is this normally the case when beach fishing with other fishos? Was thinking of getting out for a crack still, got sum pretty big surf sinkers although don't really like chucking out heavy sinkers cause my bait slabs are normally pretty solid, starts adding a lot of weight when going for a cast. Decisions decisions. Might give it a go this arvo and if swells to annoying il head back west way try catch some squid for bait along the way it all sound good in theory.
  20. Might try couple slabs of salmon see how they. I definitely know that tailor slabs work really well u should give that a go sarge. That reminds me gonna hav to hit northern beaches up again soon to stock up on some tailor been catching some really big tailor last couple weeks but been too lazy too post any of my recent trips. Waiting for that big Jewie off the beach to to post up on here
  21. That's a horse of a salmon must of pulled hard. Makes the salmon I been catching off the northern beaches look tiny. Well done again on the nice catch. Always good to bring home a feed for the family to. Never really tried eating salmon I just like to catch most fish and release if I can. Is salmon any good for bait? I know was good up port Stephens way for snapper... But never tried it down this way always tend to use tailor slabs for bait with good results so just stick to that and squid most times.
  22. Yeh same either use pillie with gang hook under a float or 2 hooks with the top hook running free. Usually have another rod out for a bottom bash. Wanna try get out this arvo for a fish. Wind and weather been pretty crappy over the weekend tho and meant to be crappy till the weekend prob won't stop me getting out and having a go. I've also started catching squid recently and using it for bait trying to catch a jewie off palm beach with no success. Hooked on to something really big wich took me for a ride up and down the beach till it busted me off, thinking mayb was big shark with the big tail kicks. Been trying to catch squid latley and had some success at palmy wharf and around watsons bay. Gets so addictive catching squid especially when u first start catching em. Only started catchin squid this year with sum success. Il definatley be dedicating some time during the colder months just chasing squid or should I say il be egging a lot more these coming months
  23. Well done great effort again and good read up sarge. Only wish I could write out such an informative and pleasant reading post as u do. Love reading your posts cause seems to be all the same areas I fish at and makes me want to get out have a crack as well. Keep em coming bro looking forward to reading your next post
