  1. "Stoners" now that is a new one on me. Never struck any fishing on the beach at Cronulla or down the coast and don't want to either. That is scary. Love the pics of the rods with the sun casting their shadow onto the sand, brings back a lot of good memories. Cheers Paikea
  2. Wow! that is a quality bag of fish. Great eating to. Thanks for sharing Cheers Paikea
  3. It always surprises me how good fishing is in the Harbour, only fished it once myself (and caught some Kings)but would like to have another go. Problem is taking the boat through the city to Rose Bay to launch it. Bit daunting for this oldie. Cheers Paikea
  4. Hi Weist, I will try to scan pics of all of the boats that I have owned over the past 60 years and post them. The range is; Belly tank from a flying boat, 13.5 Ft home built Hartley "Spearfish" ply runabout,17 Ft Hartley Ply cabin boat, Savage Escort, 21 Ft Hayden trawler, 26 Ft Savage Fly bridge Game Boat , 10 M Seafarer Fly bridge Game Boat, 8 FT rubber duckie, Kevlacat 5.2 M Sports, 6.5 M Aussie Whaler, Pelican two man canoe with outrigger and electric motor, 3,6 M Tinnie (given to son in law Simon), Seafarer Viking, 3.6 M Little Gem,(my river and lake boat down the coast, weighs only 49 KG) 5.2 M Trailcraft Pro-Fish Centre Console, 5.65 Tournament (current boat) Showed the pics to Steve this morning, he liked my Kevlacat 5.2 Sports. Lovely boat but too big to handle one up. I ended up putting it in a marina pen but that was too expensive and not enough use to justify it sitting there. Cheers Paikea
  5. Advice I need is, I can only access one side of the aluminium that corroded so what should I do? the back part on the outside is welded on. should I cut it off to fix it properly? What do you mean by only having access to one side? And what was bolted on to the transom on the top Starboard side? There is no way that I would cover the corrosion with ply, you would never know what is going on under the ply. Save your money and have it done properly, much too dangerous the way it is. You could end up tearing the back out of the boat and sinking, Even if you are a good swimmer and always wear a lifejacket that could be very awkward or even fatal, especially if you take kids out. This is probably not what you wanted to hear. Cheers Paikea
  6. My first post was along the lines suggested by Tim above. That way we get quick and relevant details at the time that we are looking at a post that interests us. I have looked at the members boat section before, very comprehensive and a good read but, as Steve mentions a bit hard to get to a particular boat and you have to leave the Post that you are looking at (and want boat info for) I still like the original idea as better described by Tim. Maybe not all reports need to be as comprehensive but the size/make/model of boat would be of interest to most members I think. Continuing food for thought? Cheers Paikea
  7. I don't know whether I am alone in this but when reading posts describing successful (or otherwise)fishing trips I always like to know what type/size boat the writer was fishing from. My mate Salty Dog (Steve) is interested in getting a bigger boat and I know that it would help him if he got info from other Raiders. Sometimes pics show part of a boat and you think, hey that looks good and would like more info but not enough detail in the post. So what do you all reckon, would you like to see some more info posted on the type/size of boat that Raiders fished out of in their Post? After all, we see plenty of information re the type of gear used, and very helpful that is. Cheers all Paikea
  8. Great post Weist, keep them coming, we love to read well written reports with good info. Cheers Paikea
  9. Great fish and an innovative pic, love it! Thanks for sharing. Cheers Paikea
  10. Now that is a new one for me, thanks for sharing Mowie. Cheers Paikea
  11. Hey Magnus, that post is like a Scotsman writing a telegram, how's about a bit more info? Thanks for sharing and a great Dolly Cheers Paikea
  12. Great possie for the Go-Pro, top pics of the hookup. Cheers Paikea
  13. Kurnell Refinery being demolished and the area turned into National Park would make a great image. Ditto the 4WD track to Boat Harbour and the dunes being compulsory acquired from the Sand Miner, Breen and added to the Park. Now that would be Gold! Cheers Paikea
  14. Game fishermen use tuna oil in their berley trail to bring sharks from far and wide. Can't see why it would not do the same for crabs. Cheers Paikea
  15. Great responses to my query, thanks all. When I was a pup I used to fish for big mullet in the bay, in those days huge schools of them would come into the Port as far as Audley Weir where perps would throw big treble hook jags into the school milling at the base of the weir and jag them out. Saw the same thing done at Toukley years ago. An old man who lived right on the beach and had a boat shed and timber ramp going into the water taught me how to find and look at Flathead lies and Whiting snorts to see what stage of the tide they were feeding. If a snort has sand/mud upstream of it the Whiting were feeding on the run out tide etc. Great info for a young lad. The old man (probably younger than I am now) also had some great pics in his boatshed of big fish caught off his ramp. One was of a big Tiger Shark that had been feeding on the Mullet. Ah, those were the days. Cheers all. Paikea
  16. Wading the flats Gunnamatta Bay, Port Hacking Many years ago looking down from the Fly Bridge of my 10 M Game boat when travelling thru the channel at the entrance to Gunnamatta Bay I often saw schools of big Whiting and Bream swimming in the area of the last channel marker (before the deep water) at near low tide. Since then I have always wanted to wade out there at low tide and fish using Nippers, Bloodworms (and now) small chugger surface lures. Unfortunately age and two bad knees caught up with me and put any attempt on hold. However, I am still keen to give it a go. In the meantime I thought that I would share this info with Raiders in the hope that someone will try it and do a post on their experience. To get there you have to get onto Darook Park Beach and wade out. The following pics show both the flats and the Channel Marker. Good Luck Cheers Paikea The Channel Marker is at the edge of the deep water. The line showing the ferry route is wrong, it has to use the channel at all times. The Channel Marker, to the left of the incoming boat, at low tide you can nearly walk right up to it.
  17. Just get a Phillips Head screwdriver and sharpen it to a point. Works perfectly and no danger to the holder. Cheers Paikea
  18. "Though I must admit cleaning the boat was a pain yesterday" You poor thing, that is the trouble when you catch fish. Great Post Cheers Paikea
  19. Another great post Yowie, you are the Master of the Port! Good for you sharing all that top info with other Raiders. This site has to have the most selfless members of all, plenty of "feel good" reads when members share. Keep it up lads and lassies. Cheers Paikea
  20. A top post with great pics, well done. Cheers Paikea

  23. Top Post Adrian, thank you for sharing what was clearly a top day. BTW, is that a Cruisecraft that you fish from? I always like to know the type and size of boats that Raiders take out wide. Cheers Paikea
