  1. Hi Guys Does any one know anything about the supergraph range of rods.I believe they have a mixture of carbon and glass to add strength will be using it for bream trevally drummer etc.Are they strong enough to winch up a reasonable size fish or should i say as indestructible as a Snyder Mt7144.Any feedback appreciated. Steve
  2. That fish would have been close to 2.5kg top pig well done.
  3. Thanks George good to see you are getting into them.Perhaps you can teach me a trick or two.Sent you a PM
  4. I am happy with Fireline crystal but would like to know how heavy leader can I go if using say 4pound and 6pound fireline.Am targeting flathead and how long should leader be.Sorry to hijack post. steve
  5. yes mate all fish were caught in the wash on dead flat days I dont bother fishing for them they bite best when there is abit of wash.
  6. Good going mate did you hook any bigger fish during your session?
  7. Yes Anthony the big one went hard was only using 7kg line got reefed by him but managed to coax him out of his hole washing him up was a bit of a challenge but I find fishing lighter for pigs improves the bite rate a bit more sporting i reckon.
  8. Sorry am using a mt7144 with 650a5 alvey only need to throw into the wash 15-20 metres max.
  9. Hi Raiders I just wanted to know if it would be okay to use an Alvey Reel with a spinning reel mount(MEDIUM.The reason I would like to know is that I have a spare rod collecting dust and would like to use it for wash fishing will not be throwing very far so long casting will not be an issue. Will be using a rod bucket so the extra butt will not be an issue. As I have been using Alveys with low mounts most of the time has anyone tried this variation. Cheers Steve
  10. Gooday Raiders Went fishing this morning and tried a new spot.As the swell was down I took advantage of the conditions and fished a bouldery reefy ledge deployed the bread burley and was using peeled prawns and bread for bait.Very slow to begin with and with the approaching high tide which was 10.00am the bite improved.I landed at least 6 or 7 undersize pigs so at least I thought I was in the strike zone. Then the fish started to bite a few fish reefed me unstopable however managed 3 drummer largest 50cm,41cm and 35cm with a blackfish and trevally thrown in.All in all not a bad day but had to work very hard for them very wet in the end and that wind was horrendous and very hard conditions to fish. Cheers Steve
  11. Thanks mimyo I am assuming you are fishing from the rocks down below. Can you tell me what the rig is.Is it stopper float sinker trace then pillie and what depth. What about an unweighted pilchard cast out and left to go to the bottom.Tides I dont know have no idea have never caught a hairtail so it would be good.Your help would be appreciated. steve
  12. Just wondering if it is worthwhile targeting them landbased or is it a waste of time.
  13. yes hawkesbass good fishing but would never go down there by myself if you want to have a session some day thats okay
  14. Hope you get a few stewy I would like a session with you soon. steve
  15. Hi Raiders Went for a session with Royce on Saturday Morning to say it was cold was an understatement. We arrived at our chosen spot nearly tucked out of the westerly.Fished the spot till low tide which was 9.00am for only 1 fish.We then gave it away and went to another favourite spot and fished there till Midday and only picked up 2 more Blackfish and because there was not enough wash at this spot we were plagued by the cockies and when they moved in it was time to call it a day. Then Royce says to me we will try one more spot before going home. This spot can only be fished in small seas and there was enough wash working the rocks so we felt confident coinciding with a late afternoon high tide.We started off slow forgot who got the first fish but they started to fire up.The fish were taking cabbage and the bite was fast and furious.Funnily enough all the fish were caught on ridiculously long drifts could not see the float clearly at times and we assumed that the fish were in the deeper water due to the clear water. At this time of year it is imperative to fish wash and concentrate fishing around the early morning and late afternoon sessions. All up we ended up with 18 fish only 14 in the photo as Royce had packed his fish away. There was some horses amongst them but we could still not beat Stewy's beast of a fish earlier this year in the harbour.oh well I will keep trying. By the way the fish in the harbour have slowed down and you have to work hard for a good bag. Thanks Royce for the day out and your good company should be good for this weekend also.By the way how did you and George go on Sundays session. Cheers Steve
  16. Hi Raiders Been off the scene lately due to work but have been out fishing in between.Went fishing landbased to Bluefish point at a spot called Tumbledown with a mate on the 27th may sorry for the late post.To get to this spot involves going down the main rope dead easy followed by a scramble along the low rocks past the old murk then up another rope about 40ft and then down on the main ledge strictly low seas and not recommended for the inexperienced. We started fishing about 1.00pm and were tossing lightly weighted pilchards and peeled prawns into the washes using around 8kg line running 01 ball sinker down to a 2/0 baitholder hook.Essential to use berley bread/pillies.The fishing was steady and reasonable with bites coming frequently enough.I hooked something descent that took off and palming the alvey resulted in a fish snagging me probably a monster trevally or descent red as the fish are there at times we dropped a few more reds and trevally during or sesh and gave it away on dark and the long walk out which tested my fitness definitely felt like a coldie at the top of the car park.We ended up with 5 pannies and 5 trevally which was okay. Cheers steve
  17. What about a Frosts filleting knife.Have had one for years and is as good as the day i bought it.You cant go wrong with this knife. Cheers Steve
  18. Hi Royce Wish I could make it but have to work.Swell should be down were are you going exactly? Steve
  19. Yeah its pretty sad when you see this happen as when I was there last time it was the same story the creek was raped.Thats why Rickster used to get his weed way down south to avoid these idiots taking more weed than necessary.I only take what i need but on the bright side there will be nothing left for this joker.Us true luderick fishermen will always be able to get weed of the rocks if necessary. Cheers Steve
  20. Good going Brettman.I fish the Northern Beaches regularly for Jewies Tailor etc using live bait yakkas mainly whole squid butterflyed fish.whole pilchards on a two hook sliding snell rig.As a bye catch I Pick up whalers up to 1.5 metres in length. Why is it that the sharks I am getting are always between 1 and 1.5 metres in length. Are there big sharks to be caught of Sydney beaches or are they only confined to deeper waters offshore.Your thoughts would be appreciated as I would like to get a good one.P.S I release the majority of sharks I catch and keep the odd one for the table. Cheers Steve
  21. Good catch Pete. What line class sinker weight and hook size were you using for this session.Cheers Steve
  22. Hi Raiders I will be targeting large tailor of the beaches soon and I was told to gang hooks with a swivel separating each hook for flexibility and presenting the bait easier and also to prevent fish throwing the hooks. With this in mind I will be using 4/0 and 5/0 hooks. My question is with the addition of the swivels to the rig how many hooks should I use for each size of hook.I know it depends on the size of the pilchards and they do vary quite a bit.for the 4/0s I normally would use 4 hooks and in the 5/0s 3 hooks. But with this new setup it changes the size of the rig.Any suggestions please? Cheers Steve
  23. Good catch mate. With the rig were you using a Paternoster Rig or a running sinker. Also what line class were you using. Cheers steve
  24. Good report mate good to see the fellow greeks are reducing the bream population. In the beginning of your speech do you mean distinguished guests instead of extinguished guests. Cheers steve
