  1. Good result mate with the jew. With regards to the rubbish problem it is only a matter of time before they ban fishing on all the wharves. The minister has already banned Cabarita wharf and said that he will ban all 75 wharves in the harbour if this practice continues.Fishermen are their own worst enemies and in the end there will be no fishing spots in the harbour for anyone.
  2. Hi Raiders I Normally hit the blackfish but after 3 consecutive donuts I decided it was time to give it a break for a while 2 harbour outings and 1 rock fishing episode down at bondi failed to raise a scale oh well thats fishing.I grabbed some live tubeworms from the local tacklestore and headed down to the lower harbour fishing the shallows arrived at 5.00am to take advantage of the early morning high at 8.00am.Rigged up in the dark and almost straight away rod got slammed up comes a nice whiting of 36cm.As the sun rose the fish became more active I then got another nice bream of 36cm followed by 4 legals.Fish were not thick had to work for them and I was using 3 rods but not bad going in the end.Packed up around 11.0O am. cheers Steve

  8. Gooday Raiders.I thought that I should post a report as its been a while not that I havent been fishing targeting blackfish in the harbour and being doing okay.Had the day off work so decided today I should try something different so I grabbed some bloodworms and went for a fish in one of the lower harbour`s sandy areas using light flick sticks and minimal lead.Got there around 5.00am to take advantage of the high around 8.00am. It started off quiet but as the first light dawned the fish started to bite.First fish of the Day was my largest bream which went hard on 3kg tackle followed by a nice whiting which just about took the rod in the water amazing how ravenous they can be.For the next few hours it was a fish here and there nice steady bites.I ended up with 4 bream and six whiting not to mention that I lost a few fish that did not hook up plus a few undersize fish.Packed up around 10.00am so not bad going.Looks like the whiting and bream are beginning to appear in numbers this month and should only get better. Cheers Steve
  9. I think you blokes should target the jews with soft plastics as Greg L has no trouble getting stuck into them.Everytime he gets out he is onto them.I have even been out with a guide and have not nailed a decent Jew yet but I dont have a boat. Cheers Steve

STEVE
  13. Good going mate were you fishing from the shore or in your boat anchored in the deeper water? Cheers Steve
  14. Obviously not fishing the Sydney waters are you fishing around avoca way?
  15. I suppose with a fish like salmon you have to try to mask the bland flavour with a heap of curry and tomato based sauces to make it barely edible.I have tried all these recipes and was not impressed so its catch and release for me.
  16. Hey steve that corn rig has got me thinking how would that go off the rocks wash fishing for bream and blackfish never tried it. cheers steve
  17. Hi Guys I went fishing the other day for whiting of the beach did no good but had left over bloodworms.I did a google on the topic which mentions that dipping them in metho for 30 minutes and freezing them in a zip lock bag is the go.Will try them next time.Has anyone done this and how do they compare to the live product do fish still go for them. Also picked up a packet of the dynabait freeze dried tube worms which you soak in water for 30 minutes and they rehydrate to normal has anyone used them with sucess? Cheers Steve
  18. Thanks Fezza do flat seas make any difference do they still bite or do they shut down on the bite due to the lack of whitewater. Steve
  19. Hi Guys I was wondering if anyone knows if whiting can be caught of the ocean beaches during the night specifically targeting them using worms for bait.I have always fished for Jew, tailor at night but never tried for whiting.i have caught flathead and bream as a bycatch when tageting Jew so would like to try for them at night. Cheers Steve
  20. Good one peter good session been catching a few up your way but cant seem to find a good school of them fish are only about in small numbers. What tackle did you get your fish on and can you share any tips in locating a hot bite for them in terms of locations and sea conditions.Do you only fish Mona Vale for them? Cheers Steve
  21. Hi Guys Been doing some research on the proposed ban and stumbled upon the following link on the fishraider website with proposals and members writing to parliament with replies back in March 2010.Hope this helps. http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=47389 Cheers Steve
  22. They can say what they want where is the press release from the department of primary industries regarding this legislation?.I did a google search on the topic and found nothing. What about the professional fishermen who use hydraulic winches and kill undersize fish.Their argument is that anglers can upgrade their catch due to the ease of use with these reels in as as much they can keep the smaller fish and then upgrade them for a bigger fish.Subsequently the small fish go back still legal size with no hope of survival due to the depths.I cant see the logic behind their argument. Most importantly how will fishermen be compensated for the loss incurred in their purchase.I bet Fisheries will not be reimbursing anyone.Just my 2 cents worth. Cheers Steve
  23. Thats what I thought but from asking around the traps I am told that the fish are still there in lesser numbers but better quality. After all the water temp is hovering around 20 degrees so I guess its a bit of luck in locating a school of them.I have bombed out in Winter before but I think the heavy seas help the bite.
  24. Gooday Raiders As my holidays are nearly over I decided to make the most of what time I had left so decided to go fishing yesterday afternoon.Armed with Bloodworms and my trusty beach oufit the challenge was to find a spot that was tucked out of that South swell which was pumping around 5-6 foot.So on prospecting decided to fish the Southern end of the beach were I had some protection and hopefully some fish. I Started fishing around Midday and boy was it cold but hey where else would you want to be.I rigged up the rod with about 50grams of lead running sinker short trace and size 4 hook.First cast bait was in the water less than 1 minute rod got slammed up comes a 39cm whiting woohoo .I was wrapped but then I said to myself hope this isnt the first fish hoodoo that has happened to me heaps of times.Second cast again another fish 37cm almost straight away you little ripper the curse is broken. From then on it was on and the fish continued to bite freely until about 5.00pm and then called it a day as I had run out of bait.Final score was 12 whiting ranging in size from 33cm to 39cm 3 bream from 27 to 32m and 1 Flathead around 42cm.On a final note i have fished this spot in normal seas and have not caught much so i would think that during a swell fish must come in for shelter and food. Cheers Steve
  25. Good going mate. Can you tell me if any tailor were around as garie is usually okay for them. What time do the gates shut these days? cheers Steve
