  1. Mate i do not have a clue what the hell it is, dont know if it will work either, might have to contact someone from an american forum and ask
  2. Will be heading in to the Harbour to see if there are any good kings around, was planning on chasing some dollies but weather reports are not great.
  3. Hey Guys, just wondering if anybody has chased kings in the harbour lately, planning on going out tomorrow and havent heard any reports of late
  4. Hey guys, thought i would add my 2 cents worth. During last winter i invested in some downriggers for my boat, bought 2 scotty depthmasters 1050's. The season of 2004/05 i caught around 20 kings, largest being around 75cm. This season with the downriggers i have caught well over 50, Largest coming in at 94cm, approx 7.5 kg. I always tend to get the larger ones around late December to early January before the blue water brings in the rats. Downriggers make a major difference, if you purchase a downrigger make sure it can handle a 7kg bomb, the small lake trollers just dont cut it. Also bait is very important, In the estuaries the only bait i will use is live squid, works a treat, Kings see them as candy and cannot resist them. Yakka's will produce the odd king here and there but if you want multiple king days in the estuary squid is the go. Yakka's work very well outside, perhaps even better than squid, dont know why but offshore kings seem to prefer yakka's. Well hope that helps guys. PS: if you are going to buy downriggers and get them from your tackle shop they are a rip off. I bought mine which are sold at around $550 each in Australia for $200 each in the states. Need any info just msg me.
  5. Sorry for the late reply for all the questions guys, been away I heard from a pretty good source that once a dollie reaches 2kg that it will grow 50 grams heavier per day, so they have a very fast growth rate. I only went out to the fad on such a rough day because i knew that i would have the fad to myself, (being selfish) On a good day it is hard to get a good position near it. There were a few boats out, saw around 5 larger boats and 3 boats around the 16ft mark. But the swell did kill me, i felt like crap once i started to get sick, In regards to keeping the fish, Breeze i kept all of them because i can, Dollies are legal at anysize (for the next few months anyway) and i got out there in some pretty crap conditons, and trust me there are plenty of dollies for everyone to get. Choteo, I dont actually eat fish, cant stand any seafood, i usually give them to family, my mate said that they tasted really good, much better than kings and jews, he also said he feels they are better than dory. Big Steve, Mate get out their and give them a go, they are a great fish to get, we used live yakkas, no word of a lie the longest a yakka stayed in the water was 2 minutes than it would get hit. Crystaliser, Mate i have only ever heard of 1 dollie being caught in the harbour and thats problem just fishing myth. They can be found offshore around any floating object, i once saw a peice of wood floating outside, it must of been 10cm by 40cm, i caught 12 dollies from around it. Thanks for all the positive feedback guys
  6. Went out to see if i can get some kings on saturday but found it hard going to find some squid, decided to give the fad a go for some dollies. Got to the fad in some pretty swelly conditions and threw some lures out, landed 14 dollies before i got a little sea sick so headed back. Sizes were 40cm to 78cm.
  7. Hey all, went out fishing both Saturday and sunday this week Saturday went to the wedding cakes after managing only 3 squid in 2 hours, Downrigged around both wedding cakes for 2 kings on a double hook up, both small, 50cm and 55cm (see pic) both were released, tried for another 1 hour without a hit, dissapointing day. Sunday went out to bluefish Pt, dropped yakka's and squid without a touch, downrigged yakkas/squid without a touch. Trolled minnows and skirts without a touch. Decided to come back in and try the various markers, Caught 2 kings at the wedding cake closest to watsons, both kings were just legal. Downrigged for both of them. Overall it was a dissapointing weekend, this time last year the kings that were around were alot bigger, hopefully over the next month we may see sizes increase. Good luck
  8. Mate if your gonna be out there say hello, can let you know how i went
  9. Hey all, Haven't heard many reports for a while about Sydney Kings, i haven't been hitting the water much lately due to work commitments. So i thrive on reading good reports. I am going out this weekend sat and sun so hopefully will have some reports to post soon. Lets all try and make sure we post our trips, good or bad
  10. Matei also heard the rumour when i first started fishing, beleive it or not the Sydney fad that lies 8.5 kms out isnt that far, i go there in a 4.75 alum runabout and there a always a few boats there so if you ever run into trouble there is always someone to assist. Just make sure you choose a good day to go out
  11. Mate here are the co-ordinates for the fads around Sydney Sydney North - 33 °35.554’ - 151 °34.607’ - 22km from Barrenjoey Head Sydney Middle - 33 °47.021’ - 151 °22.700’ - 8.5 km from Sydney Heads Sydney East - 33 °59.316’ - 151 °20.951’ - 9.5 km from Botany Heads Botany Wide - 33 °59.672' - 151 °26.743' - 16km from Botany Heads Sydney South - 34 °06.541’ - 151 °24.964’ - 23km from Port Hacking
  12. Yeah just had the squid, I only ever use squid, don't like yakka's, hit rates are much lower with them, where i caught the 2 kings there were around 6 boats using yakkas and none of them got hit and i did with the squid. This year has resulted in a king for every squid caught 98% of the time.
  13. Your source may be right, what i have heard is that the kings have really gone down in numbers, and i have no explanation for it, this time last year was pretty good. Its hard to believe that the kings were around in really good numbers last month and this month your lucky if you can get 1. I called it a bad days fishing because i have been chasing kings for a couple of years now and have caught plenty, i don't eat fish and love fishing purely for the fight, although 55cm kings can put up a good fight nothing compares to the rush you get when fighting a 80cm plus king, The kings i caught on the weekend came up like tailor. The fights only lasted 30 secs if that
  14. Hey All, went out to the harbour for the first time in a couple of weeks, went out chasing squid first and found it hard going, manage 3 squid between 3 of us in 3 hours, had plenty of followers but the squid were scittish. Went to the wedding cakes without any takers, then went to the yellow marker near neilsen and got 2 kings and a salmon, Kings were both undersized around 55cm and the salmon was approx 60cm. It took us around 30 minutes of downrigging to find the kings, Its hard to believe that the kings are so scarce now, 3-4 weeks ago we were getting smashed by 70cm plus kings within minutes. Well it was a dissapointing trip but thats fishing. See ya's
  15. Hey all, went out today to give the larger kings another try. Found getting squid hard for the first time in months, only managed one squid and one cuttlefish after 2 hours. Chopped the squid into squid strips and left the cuttle whole, Got 5 kings at the neilsen park yellow marker, 3 just over legal and 2 under. Was quite dissapointed with the sizes and have now decided its time to rip into the jews. So hopefully this time next week will have a couple of 20kg plus jew pics on here. Does anyone have word on the dollies yet, have the larger ones arrived?
  16. Hey guys, on Sunday March 12 a peaceful protest has been organised to try and get the attention of fisheries, so far well over 40 boats will be attending and the more the better, it will be early morning around 7.00am and will last around 30 minutes. So most of us can enjoy a good days fishing afterwards. It will just be a presence to show fisheries how many of us are upset that the pro's are netting all the resident fish, with sydney harbour's commercial fishing banned more commercial fisho's have now moved into pittwater. Cmon guys lets all make an effort to get out there so we and future generations can enjoy the benefits of pittwater fishing.
  17. good job with the kings, they should not be angry as most fisho's find there spots from seeing other peoples rods buckle, even pro's Well done
  18. Mate well done on the kings, good to see you getting into the action. Great to see fisheries did turn up there, must of been after i left.
  19. Mate at the wedding cakes i would have one down at about 18ft and another at around 22ft
  20. Went out today as i do every sunday looking for kings in the harbour, after being at Jervis Bay for the last 3 days without the boat even touching the water due to rough weather i was dyin to get some bigger kings, caught 5 squid before sunup and then went to the yellow marker inside quarentine, downrigged for around 30 minutes and picked up 2 rats, 42cm and 47cm. Saw plenty of other boats also getting these rats. Dying for a good fight we then went to the western wedding cake and downrigged for 30 minutes without a touch. Decided to try the eastern cake and there was around 15 boats there but decided to try and downrig anyway, after 1 minute got hit and boated a 74cm king, Then boated another 2 in the next 20 minutes, 62cm and 82cm, good to see there are some healthy sizes still in the water. all kings went back in except for the 62cm which i promised to zorba from High Tide (2ue). The one bad thing about the day was the extremely high number of fisho's keeping undersize kings, no word of a lie, i must of seen at least 15 clearly undersized kings caught and placed in the boat to never return to the water. I had an argument with a guy at the yellow marker over keeping undersize fish and i was so close to jumping out of my boat and kicking the shit out of him. The rats that they were keeping were max 50cm, it was clearly obvious they were undersized, i wish the fisheries dept would get there fingers out of their ass's and start policing this. anyway other than that it was a good day, with some good fights..
  21. Mate, i would normally try the outer tubes for a while and then downrigg along the coast line, i got a nice 18kg specimen last year so hoping to repeat this year
  22. mate i am been checked once and that was at Five dock boat ramp, its dissapointing when you see so many fisho's take home these undersize fish, most people want to catch kings for there well known fighting abilities and if more fisho's released there would be plenty more kings for everyone to get. I am heading down to Jervis Bay this weekend so hopefully will get on to some big kings down there, i am having some trouble though tracking down the bigger kings in our harbour that i was catching 3 weeks ago before the rats came in so if anybody finds them it would be great to enlighten the rest of us. I think this site is great, i have been a member of another site for a long time but i can already see the fisho's on this site seem to help each other out more, i am happy to post after every trip and be as detailed as i can, but even though i like to think i am quite well educated when it comes to chasing kings and have caught well over 100 in the last few years i still have alot to learn so anything raiders can post is always useful.
  23. Went out early yesterday to get some mates of mine onto some kings, (they had never been out with me before). Caught 9 squid by 9.00am and then went to the yellow marker inside north head. There was around 25 boats anchored and after downrigging for 2 minutes released that it was going to be impossible to keep downrigging without getting caught on someones anchor. Anchored up and threw the livies down, ending up with 5 kings, no keepers though, largest was around 58cm. I saw heaps of boats pulling up these rats with none being over 60cm, no word of a lie 30 kings must of been pulled up in an hour. And surprisingly hardly none of the other boats were releasing them, even though i could clearly see they were not legal. We then went to the wedding cakes around midday and downrigged there for a while before the gust came in and the water got to choppy. Dissapointed that the rats are in as the average sizes are going to seriously drop over the next month. Bring on the dollies.
  24. mate a great place to get Yakka's is where your launching from, Rose bay. Just sprinkle bread crumbs and five minutes later the yakka's will come, cliffo's is good also. With squidding the most important thing is to get quality jigs, not cheap shit ones, Orange and pink work very well.
