  1. I would also recoomend a smaller Shimano Baitrunner, maybe the 3500, And yeah Shimano Gear is the best in my Opinion
  2. Mate mondo got it spot on, at night there are plenty of Yakkas at rose bay but for some reason they are smarter then normal yakkas. They can really stress you out, best thing to do is wait till sun up and go to cliffo, burley hard and you will get heaps, but any wharf in the harbour will produce yakkas. Squid is a different story, good squid spots are like gold mate and rarely given out, as mondo stated you can get squid at rose bay at night but some nights they can be really hard to get, another place to try is Balmoral wharf, but that wharf does get plenty of squidders there as it is very well known, you can also try the eastern side of spit bridge. Other than that cannot reveal anymore, good luck
  3. I am still fairly new here and trust me you can learn alot from the fisherman here, there are all types of fisho's here, Jew chasers, flattie specialist, king kings. You can learn alot but as stated previously, dont ask for too much without contributing first, just keep an eye on the posts and you will learn alot. Welcome to the site

    Fad

To find the PJ Fad with out a GPS would be possible if there are boats present at the fad, the fad itself would be nearly impossible to find as it is small and can only be seen when within 200 metres of it, but if there are boats present you will be able to find it. It lies around 7kms right in front of Manly Beach, so if you head out of North head on a diaganal you may find it, but i have had mates try and find it without a gps and searched for an hour without luck. You can pick up a handheld gps for under $200 these days, i recommend you grab one, it will ensure you find it.
  5. would love to help but i rarely fish the bay, check the reports and msg a regurlar bay fisher, there is plenty on here

    Fish Eaters Or

Don't eat fish and never have, cant remember ever putting a peice in my mouth, maybe i had a bad experience as a kid or something, cant remember, the other half hates fish also so all my fish go to family or go back in, most of the time though the people i take will take some fish. I try to release as many kings as i can so other fisho's can enjoy them. Species like dollies which are in abundant supply and grow at a alarming rate i will bring home and spread out to neighbours, family etc. I rarely release dollies, people tend to love eating them too much.
  7. Hey guys, as planned went out through the harbour on Sunday for some Dollies, had some new co-ordinates for a private fad around 12 kms out which my mate caught over 40 dollies from on Saturday, largest being 7kg so we were pumped to get there are ripp into them. Unfortunately all of us slepted in after a big night saturday and we woke up at 9.00am, even though we were late we decided to go anyway and got to the ramp at about 11.00am. Reached the heads to find perfect conditons, dead calm, hardly no swell and hardly any wind at all Got there and could not find the fad, search everywhere within a 600 metre radius, just couldnt locate it. so decided to go to the Fisheries fad. Reached the fad and was surprised to see only 1 boat there, Threw out the yakka's to get zip, wasnt touched at all, then decided to head to the waverider 4 km's from the Fisheries fad, as soon as we reached there we could see them jumping, caught around thirty before our yakkas ran out. sizes were not as big as i had hoped, Largest being around 50cm but averaging around the 45cm mark. On our way back in my mate decided to throw out his $120 marlin lure to see what happens, as we were going back past the Fisheries Fad all we hear is the Tiagra 80 start screaming, turn around to see what looked like a Stripy in the air, First time a marlin was hooked on my boat and i was pumped, and then as quik as it started it ended with it coming off around a minute later Trolled around for an hour or so with no hits, all in all not a bad day, not as good as the botany boys had. sorry got no pics due to my mobile battery being dead.
  8. No it is actually hooked into the live bait, the treble goes just before the tail and the live bait hook goes inside the eye socket at the top of the eye, sounds rough but they will actually live longer than through the back. This rig you can just drop the livie or Troll/Downrigg it, and as most fish go for the tail first it will improve your chances of getting them hooked if they dont take the whole yakka as the treble is right there. See Image (yes i know its a king not a yakka buts it the only diagram i had)
  9. heres my 2 cents worth, as mentioned in a previous post i dont go there much but have caught all my jews there, i dont go there much becuase everytime i do go there, i seem to get into an argument. if i do go there it is at night when there are not many boats. Some Jewfishos (note i said some not all) seem to think they own the hawkesbury, thats why i have stuck with the harbour, harbour regurlars seem to be much more helpful and less territorial. And the same goes for the northern beaches for jew fishing, the regurlars seem to think they own certain parts of the beach, these idiots have to remember we live in a free country and everyone can enjoy rec fishing whenever they want and where ever they want (so long as it is a legal spot)
  10. im not a big jew fisherman only go a few times a year but i have caught all my jews at juno, i have also seen some massive jews pulled up by some other boats there
  11. Mate those are some great stories, really makes you wonder, I once read an article that when the first setllers came to Oz they anchored up where sow and pigs lies today. There diaries talk about what they were eating for food and they describe to a tea massive Yellow Fin tuna being caught at sow and pigs, some up past 2 metres. Goes to show you what populating sydney has done for the fishing

I understand that i tend to be stupid at times and go out when i shouldnt and i definately dont recommend people do that. Thats why I did say go out on a good day and always check the reports, Trust me i would never want anyone to get caught in what i was in on Tuesday and the last thing i want to hear is that someone lost thier life due to my advice. I would definately not recommend anyone go out on a day like Tuesday and I now will be much more cautious when venturing out after that experience. But it will not stop me from going out all together. It will just make me more selective on the days i choose to go out. I do agree with you, Safety should always come first and trust me, i dont wanna get injured or possible die in order to get some fish.
  13. I always use a 3/0 treble as the leading hook and than 4/0 live bait hook as a guiding hook, the 4/0 must be rigged so it is adjustable, depending on the size of your live bait. If using squid the treble goes just between the eyes and the 4/0 goes right on the tip of the tube. this rig will allow you to get the fish hooked alot easier, and also the treble will make it very hard for him to spit the hook out. Got this rig from a pro of twenty years and since switching to it have a 100% hooked to boat ratio.

Mate you will be fine going in your boat, i have seen 12ft dinghies there, just go on a good day. Check the reports and always let someone know where you are going and when you should be back, so atleast if something happens somebody will know to sound the alarm. Also have all the safety equipment, Flares, Jackets and if possible an epirb. And always remember carry extra fuel, i have a 70 litre tank but still tank a 10litre bottle of extra fuel. Dont let what happen to me worry you too much, that day i was just stupid, it was way too rough and i was just way too eager. Surprisingly 10km isnt that far, when your actually out there it seems like you are only a few km's out. Best thing you could probably do is go with another boat, atleast you will have the added bonus of having assistance straight away if anything went wrong.

I have a 475 Hussar 2001 model, yours seems to have a deeper hull than mine, but i now know that the boat can handle some really bad conditions, just hope i never have to test it again... but will be heading out this weekend

mate we were saturated, and i mean saturated. Didnt realise how wet we were until we got back to cliffo. All i know is that my mate who was a boating first timer says he is never going again, practically shit himself. Joe Dwyer Yes i have a Stessco 475 Alum with a 70 Yami, which by the way held up very well after getting airbourne a few times off the waves, held up alot better then my back which is killing me today.

Dave, Trust me I learnt a good lesson yesterday, i have been in rough waters many times, and i mean 3-5 metre swells and felt safe. but yesterday was different, it was the first time that i thought "shit i might not make it back in". Just happy to have been able to get back and live to tell the tale. All i can say to fisho's with smaller boats is be careful.

Mate dont eat fish personally but here is a recipe my mate uses, he got it off google, you can probably find many on there. 1 kg dolphin fish fillets salt and pepper juice of 2 lemons 1 clove crushed garlic 2 eggs plain flour oil 2 tablespoons butter, melted 1/4 cup white wine 1 banana, sliced diagonally 1/2 pawpaw, diced or balled Cut fillets to serving size pieces. Marinate fillets in salt, pepper, crushed garlic and the juice of 1 lemon for 1 hour. Beat eggs. Heat 1cm of oil in a frying pan. Drain fillets and pat dry. Dip fillets in beaten eggs, then in flour. Place gently into hot oil. Fry until browned on both sides but not cooked through. Place in ovenproof serving dish. Combine melted butter, wine and juice of remaining lemon. Pour over fillets. Arrange pawpaw balls and sliced banana over fish and cook for 7-10 minutes, in a moderate oven until fillets are just done. Serve fish with a crisp green salad. Bloosgottaboat visit this site for fad co-ordinates Just be careful, 3 metre swells have been predicted for the next few days and constant southerlies. http://www.fisheries.nsw.gov.au/recreation...ads_-_locations

I have been out on some really crap days in the past but today was different, the swells were only around 2 metres but they were actual waves as if i was at the beach, really woke me up, and gave me a hell of a sore back
  20. After hearing some good reports from the fads decided i may have packed the boat away a litle too early this year. Decided to go out to the Port Jackson Fad to see what was around. Was met with some pretty bad swell and a strong southerly but decided to go out anyway after spending an hour getting 20 or so yakkas. Once we reached the fad the dollies were jumping all over the place, threw in the yakkas and got hit straight away. Managed to get 6 dollies all around 55cm-60cm under 10 minutes when the southerly really kicked in, all you could here was the wind. The waters when from bad to worse so decided we had to leave in the middle of this great action. The ride back was hell, i really was worried as the 2 metre swell was breaking on my boat which is only a 4.75m alum. 3 times we were just short of flipping. after 30 minutes at an extremely slow speed we made it back through the heads and then i was just relieved. We were staturated and the boat had taken a hammering, but she held up ok. Learned a good lesson today, don't mess with nature because you will never win. Anyway after that decided to call it a day. The dollies are still around so once the southerly dies down it might be worth a trip for a few raiders.
  21. Very well done fellas, that fish will make any fisho envious

Will be waiting in anticipation for your report sea tow
  23. Looking at a 2 metre swell on Saturday, so it should be fine for beach fishing
  24. Hey guys, has any one been out to the fads lately, last couple of reports suggested the dollies had left for the season, would love to hear otherwise
  25. Hey all, went out in search of some dollies and kings, Stocked up on around 20 yakkas and headed straight to the port jackson FAD, upon getting there saw no surface action, threw the yakkas and no response, trolled minnows without a hit, after around an hour decided to go back in and try for some kings. Got 3 giant squid in 3 casts, squid were around 45cm, a little too big for bait but decided to give it a try anyway, cut 1 up into strips and left the other one full. Downrigged both at the same time around the various markers for around an hour without a hit. Then decided Macca's breakfast was what a wanted and headed back to the boat ramp. Seems the dollies might have headed up north already. would love to hear reports otherwise. Well this will be my last report for the season as the boat was cleaned and covered up till next pelagic season, little too cold this time of year for my blood. Good luck all this winter
