  1. Sharky, I have only ever fished for dollies around 6-7 times and everytime i have got to the fad i have caught straight away and ended up with at least ten dollies, only ever came back early due to sea sickness never because of lack of action. Have i just been lucky or do the dollies always congregate around a fad 24/7 during season

    Dollies

Which fad is missing, is it the broken bay fad of the port jackson FAD????
  5. Hey guys, unfortunately i will not be able to go on Friday, i cannot give a solid yes, have to help the in laws lay some floorboards, spewing. I am still hoping to get out this weekend but will not know till the night before so i cannot make solid plans. So sorry guys but i am going to have to bail.
  6. Mate, check your pm, have sent you some tips
  7. I have a 4.75m alum, You can probably tell how choppy it was by the background, that is well inside the harbour
  8. Mate i am hoping to be going out on Friday, so far it looks like it is going to be a good day, swell wise, predicting under a metre swell which should be ideal conditions for dollie chasing. will keep you guys informed
  9. Hey All, went out on Saturday morning hoping to get some dollies, as soon as i arrived at the heads i was met with some of the worst conditions i have seen, swell mixed with a lot of chop, decided that i couldn't go out so decided to stay inside the harbour to see if any kings had stayed around. Had alot of trouble getting squid, the strong current was effecting the jigs action and the strong wind was making it impossible to cast where i wanted too. Managed to get only 1 squid after 2 hours. The conditions were really getting uncomfortable so decided to head home but not before giving the squid 1 try. got the downrigger out and downrigg around the Yellow Marker off Neilsens point. Got Hit within 30 seconds and boated a half decent king, measuring 72cm. Then went home to a nice warm bed.
  10. Mate to be honest with you i have attempted to fish the river as well without much success, after 20 or so trips i have only got a few jews. It seems that you need to know the right spots in the river to get good rewards. Most of the regurlars in there like to keep there spots to themselves, (dont Blame Them). All you can do is keep trying, or do what i done, go to the harbour, plenty of Jews, Kings and everything else you want.
  11. Hey all, mentioned in another thred that we could organise a morning where we can all chase some dollies. This will allow some of the raiders that are dying to get into the action a chance to have some fun who are worried about going there alone. I will be going to chase some on easter weekend, (dont know which day yet will wait till i can get the swell reports) More than likely Friday or Saturday. I know a few of you guys have been itching to taste the action. I have a GPS so dont need that. Let me know if any of you guys are interested. All you need is a boat and your gear.
  12. Visit this site it will tell you everything you need to know http://www.fisheries.nsw.gov.au/recreation...ads_-_locations They are pretty up to date i was at the Sydney FAD last week based on those co-ordinates

    The Weekend

Mate i only go out to the 9km fad so i am still hoping i can get out there for a while, the last 2 weekends have been pretty bad for swell, but when its rough i get the fad to myself for as long as i want, or atleast till i get seasick.
  14. Well mate i havent got a big boat by any means, i have a Stessco 475, i have seen guys in Dinghies out there
  15. Well i downrigg everytime i fish and i have always used Mono, dont like braid, every pro pelagic fisherman i have spoke to prefers mono, but the one good thing is you can get more line on the spool with braid, but i use pretty big outfits for Larger pelagics so they have pretty large spools anyway

    The Weekend

I will be hoping to get out and chase some dollies this Saturday before they head north.
  17. I agree, Braid is not good at all if you are chasing species that run deep, The break as soon as they touch reef, I have used both and prefer mono, i like the stretch in the line. But i have mates who only use braid and will never use anything else.
  18. Mate you were definately too close to shore, the further you got out the more concentrated they are and the larger they are, i usually go to the 9km one but on calm days it is worth going out even further. For the dollies chasers out there that don't feel too secure going out in their boat what we should do is organise a day where a few of us head out together, at least that will give you guys the chance to get into some dollie action. And if anything goes wrong, ie: mechanical problems there will be a few of us out there. I will start a post to see if we can organise something.
  19. Which Fad did you go to??? I have been there twice in the last couple of weeks and both times there were heaps of them there, I only left due to sickness and time, My experience has been that they are always there when in season. Hopefully this doesnt mean that they have left to pursue warmer waters up north.
  20. Mate i used to fish there around 5 years ago, now have a boat so dont go there too often, my mate went there recently and said it was packed, couldnt fish in comfort. If you wanna go landbased head down to port kembla breakwall, my mates have been getting heaps of bonito's and rat kings there.

    Fad

Mate i have caught a 12kg dollie at the 8.5 km Port jackson FAD so you can get some good sizes from the closer fads
  22. well done buddy, sounds like you had a great day
  23. The larger ones were all caught on yakkas, but it seemed that they would have hit any bait i would have thrown at them
  24. When we caught it it had no stripe, it only appeared after around 20 minutes, and it had alot of blue in it, I have caught stripeys before they have more stripes than that. I assumed it was a baby bluefin
  25. Hey all, went out to the Sydney Fad today in search of some dollies, was met with some pretty big swell but decided to go anyway. Got there around 9.30am after spending some time getting yakkas from Cliffo. As soon as we arrive the action started, over the next hour we caught well over 20 dollies. Then we decided to try and troll some rapala's Got a few more dollies but then got hit by something big, fought for about 7-8 minutes, first thoughts were it was a king as it was running quite deep, went for around 5-6 runs, then we boated a bluefin Tuna, surprisingly small it was only Around 55cm but the thing fought like a tank. At the end of the day between 2 of us we got around 30 dollies and the one tuna. Released quite a few of the dollies, bought a handful home to feed the family. Largest was 76cm and the smallest was around 40cm,
