  1. We had a crap time of it chasing the yakka's on sunday, the most fun was had buy chasing a rogue float that someone obviusly had caught a fish but snapped the line at the top above the float. Everytime we drove up to the float it would dive down made it impossible to grab, still wondering what was at the other end!! However there were plenty of fun also to be had with just legal trevally on the other side of the bay and the odd portjackson shark who loved the squid. We started to target a different species and work the 2 hours either side of the tide as just like sunday as soon as the tide start runnning hard it dies off. We fished a marker and fished on the side so our bait and berley drifts down to the marker we were getting trevally after trevally with small squire and bream in between, then when the tide turned it turned us around and two other blokes anchored beside us so we moved to the other side of the marker and started catching heaps again every time i put my bait down it was getting hit. The guys on the other side never lifted there rods only to check them, we had no time to sit. BUt as soon as approx 2 hours passed it was dead as, most defiantly works. Looks like time target trevallys, snapper and jewies etc as opposed to the kingies till they come back again. Mabye shorten our sessions and just fish mabye the two high tides of the day or low tides go home in between for a sleep!! No photo's of trevally as they were just legal and we prefer something with a bit more meat so they went back to grow a bit bigger, however did take home one decent flatty. Will defiantlly stick to it thats for sure just missing those kingies.
  2. Usually collect them near molli point only had issues the last couple of time ive been out in the last month!
  3. Hey fisho's is there anyone else still having troubles catching yakka's, do they tend to go of the bite thru the cold temp's or what. I was out this morning couldnt catch one to save my life. Any help would be greatly appresciated. CHeers Shaggy
  4. By the way guys it appears the young hoodlems up to mischief knifed my trailer tyre as i found it flat as a tack this morning when about to head out for the day fish. After closer inspection there is a cut in the side of the tyre.
  5. hey fello fishos, please be aware if you arent allready there are young males attempting to steal boat trailers at sylvania boat ramp. I was the only car in the car park last night i arived back at ramp around 11pm to find about 8 young blokes sitting on my trailer and talking. They had two white vans and 2 sedan sporty cars. I stayed nboat and watched them while cleaning fish i gave them benifit of the doubt they were just hanging out with mates. I made a phone call to the wife and about 5 seconds later they were in cars driving away like manics. I checked my car and tralier over all was good except they had taken the chain and plug of and attmpted to unhich but i had the clamp on so it cant be stolen. Mabye council needs to install cameras at boat ramps and more lighting. Stay safe cheers
  6. Thanks cungee i will have to invest in a float for the anchor great idea, i had my revenge last night. Went back to same spot used 20 pound line and had a mullet as bait cheaky bastard didnt get away this time, done a few good runs buti new i had the gear to pull up safley away from the pylons. 67cm And netted her from the front this time was very happy other than that just a flattty on a plastic which i wasnt expecting being as cold the water was!
  7. Spent 4 hours on the water last capt cook bridge and just an 1.5 before top of tide got a good bite. Nice size soapie jew remembering i had only 4 pound line i let it run where i could, till finally bring it up beside boat. My fisherman measurement by site was about 75cm just about to net him and knew as i was doing it that i should net from the front not his tail sure enough he ran again and snap goes my 4 pound leader. Ok learn from my mistakes i thought dont get stresssed!!!! Got another chance on the four pound line didnt get near the boat but he did to nice big runs until once he got close to boat he ran again and you guessed it 4 pound line snapped. Well hesitant to upgrade to anything more the 15pound, as i had other lines out that werent being touched with heavier trace, gave the 15 pound a go. This time as the tide was turning on its way out, Again another hit couple nice big runs, but the fish saw structure being a great big dirty pilon. I thouhg i would be smart let the line of and allowed him to run unchored the boat and let it drift out past pilon. Afraid no luck the line must have got caught on the pilon somwhere another good fish gone to light line. Lesson of the night dont target jew fish on 4 pound line and allways net from the nose so the fish swim in to the net duhhh!!!! lol great night for it though flat as not freezing but cool.
  8. well going by the replies its seems its not just me lol, i could see plenty of yakkas swimming in and out of the weeds into the burley but just wouldn't take bait!!! Lets hope Tuesday is better, hoping to get out again then, this time i will take pillies. Best of luck all
  9. Hey fellow fisho's Was it just me or did it seem hard to get the yakka's to bite yesterday, I started fishing early only to stuff the day up by forgetting the bread for the yakka's. Had to wait till 7:30am before a shop was open at la-perouse to grab some bread. In the mean time attempted to fish for bonito's for bait. but didn't see any boil ups any where! Caught 1 livie in over an hour very annoyed headed to moli point caught one bonito, which i used for bait. All in all nice day but fishing was crap very disappointed. Even bought a heap of assorted squid jigs no luck there either, and man was it busy. Hope every one else had better luck. Cheers
  10. Boat is in for service, desperate for a fish took the young bloke down to woronora for a fish. Not really expecting much as we were using plastics on the low tide just as it was about to turn and come in. Anyway my son was changing his lures on his own until finally he decided on a lure we got from the daily telegraph ages ago. I throw it out past the rocks so he would not get a snag.He starts to reel it in then goes I'm on!! Im like no you have a snag. then noticed the tip of the rod bouncing it was a fish bring her in i said. Nice flatty for dinner and very proud boy couldn't wait to tell his mum.
  11. Hey guys re: wash down bay. I thought it was strictly motor wash can anyone clarify don't want to end up with a fine!! Other wise yes awesome ramp a bit of a bugger when its blowing an easterly or westerly for putting boat back on trailer, i have found any way. Cheers
  12. Thanks guys. @ TEZARITY ha ha, i am assuming you meant 12hours and yes it was pathetic for that length of time but hey i was out there on the water enjoying the piece and quite, and fresh air. Better then doing the house work lol Cheers
  13. Out by myself from 5am sat morn till 7pm and enjoyed it as i was getting hits every cast almost. Got busted off twice, had one fish spit the hook after 5 minutes of fight. Another monster just came up and bit a livey straight off took hooks and all. Lost about 5 decent fish after a short fight didn't get to even see what i had doh, was fishing with only live yakka's Shame ...i couldn't find any squid would have been more catches of kigies. Great session!!
  14. Yes I think would be fairly easy to make, and isn't there already a reel with a button to bring the line lol
  15. Hey fellow fisho's While doing some surfing on the net i came across this nifty idea to help you make your squidgies etc swim better and easier, haven't seen any around the bait shops, but did have a go just using my finger and it works just the same. Thought you might be interested!! Cheers Steven http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiqNmjCMgno&feature=player_embedded#
  16. Awesome arvo fishing with couple of mates yesterday, started slow so we moved to la-perouse fishing with dead squid on a double Snell rig. When bang my line was off after some fighting landed a nice Australian Salmon, 5 minutes later my line went again this time it took me straight to the reef my short boat rod was bent like it never been bent before, 10 minutes still no fish in boat i let some line out then tip of rod bounce i thought he had move out off hole but he went straight back until another 5 minutes i tried again this time snap my line goes it had shreds all up the line. Doh 30pound line and all!! Finally My mate was onto something more than a small snapper, his new rod with 20 pound line bent over and squeal the line went off. Lift and wind was my words of encouragement, couple of times thought the line was going to shred on bottom of boat till finally color was at the surface and i netted his king fish first and biggest for him. One prob was it was 55cm there for not legal, he was very upset i told him to throw back lol . My time was next with live yakka only prob my line squealed off didn't even give me 2 minutes it went straight to reef and snapped me off again. other mates turn but same thing again busted off on the reef after couple of minutes trying to pull it in. Fish to finish the day was a massive Bonito caught on a live yellow tail, drag was set tight he had no where to go but up landed, nice fight shoulder is killing me. lol Great fishing close to bommies reefs but chance of bust offs is too often.
  17. Well done mate, you must have been on a hot spot i was there all night caught one bream, and one hit but spat the bait plenty of livies just no luck. Bugger taking the mother in-law. lol
  18. Whats the legal anchoring distance from other anchored boats, as i was out on sat and we had some guys trying to anchor about 8-10 meter's behind us very annoying. At moli point. Also where do some of these young hooligans get there licenses we have seen guys driving right through people anchored full speed sending us all tossing and turning almost falling out of our boat. Bloody ridiculous!!!!! I swear they have no idea and they think they own the waters if you say something to them. cheers
  19. Great catch dont know if i could get my little bloke out that early lol.
  20. 20 pound main line and 35 pound leader with double snell. Going to invest in some heavier leader im thinking. Cheers
  21. Hey Fellow Fisho's Headed out 3am moli point collected bait Found a spot up on point anchored up before the crowd arrived!! One livey down bang nice fat Salmon then nothing, decide to move due to just too crowded we were worried that if we caught a kingies he would rap round anchor lines!!! Roamed around a bit but every where we went seemed other boaties would follow not surprising for a Saturday lol. Eventually found a spot that had kingies a boat down-rigging was on 75cm Kingie "I chose a good spot". The fun began mate dropped his line with a yakka just after anchoring then bang he was on to the first kingie just legal. Second take he was busted of big time . Then it was my turn pulled the rod out of holder almost pulled me over had drag tight on, i had to climb on to front of boat feed rod under anchor rope whilst balancing and not letting the fish get to rocks. Finally he was landed not quite legal 61 cm kingie quick happy snap back to the sea. Quite a few bust offs but over all a awesome morning "Im Loving Them Kingies" Cheers
  22. Silver surfer, i have the book wilsons book of knotts still cant get them to work lol
  23. Hey fellow fisho's i have read books, watched you tube and videos. for the life of me i cant tie a sliding snell knott . They keep just undoing!!!!! HELP!!!!!! CHeeers in advance.
  24. Awesome stuff mate at least you boated your kingies, i was out all night then went to moli point this morning caught only one yakka which stuffed my rig up take catch more lol, we also caught two squid. Dropped the yakka anchored up off moli point suddenly the yakka panicked next minute bzzzzz brought fish to surface only to have it spit it the last second. dropped it back down still kicking and managed to hook another one after some running and darting here and there landed a nice fat aust salmon. Mate landed one 5 minutes later on squid ring. Dropped whole live squid floating rig ten minutes later bzzzzzz another hit kingie this time took my bait straight over to wall and busted me off, whole squid was still on line throw out again then bzzzzzzz bigger kingies drag was set reel tight and the fish just ran big time again straight for the wall nothing i could do. ARRRGGGGGHHHHH no kingie's landed today. Good morning
