  1. Gday fellow fishers Anyone know where to find out how safe the fish in botany bay and Georges river are to eat, I know from chipping Norton ramp back they say not to eat the fish and cook river. As they had a write up in the paper last week re the metals found in oysters in the bay since the overflow at kurnell! Any ideas or contacts would be appreciated i don't want o eat nor feed my kid fish from there if it is toxic! Cheers Mr Shaggy
  2. Below is on the sydney water site however im unclear if its safe to eat fish from the bay now or not, also there has been no mention of port hacking so assume its ok. The health alert was updated twice throughout the week, with the warning extended until 9am Saturday 30 November. However with testing now showing no signs of contamination below the weir, the health warning is no longer in place for the river downstream of Liverpool Weir. Sydney Water crews have worked since Friday 22 November to restore the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant using generators and portable pumps. Sydney Water has been testing the river at 10 sites upstream and downstream of the plant. We are cleaning the riverbank in multiple locations and have five aerators in the river to maintain oxygen levels. We will continue monitoring the river over the coming days. Any one knows would be great Cheers
  3. Spent part of the school holidays taking the boy fishing, caught a couple of nice size ones drifting through woolooware bay. On sunday then drifted the shallows to the right of jew fish bay. Great fun and good to see boy is enjoying the fishing.
  4. Yeah mr475 I was seeing you trying to cast prawns at them i was tempted to throw a lure over. But thought maybe you new something i didn't my boat was Mr shaggy. Its good to have a wife who is as keen as you are i'm afraid i just rely on mates or my 7 year old son which is fine till he gets bored wish he was with me on Sunday he would have had a ball, my wife cant stand it!
  5. Yes sambros a lot of head banging at times, mr475 were you the couple that were throwing baits i think we may have pulled up near you.
  6. What a top day for fishing today 6 am start, a large pod of dolphins with young feeding under and around captain cook bridge awesome!!!. Made our way out to moli point anchored up half hour before top of tide my rod goes off 2 bean sinker long trace 12 pound (regret wasn't heavier), forgot the drag struggled removing from the rod holder. Eventually got it out after a good fight for about 5 min i was rubbed off on the rocks and snap. While we were there 3 seals were sun-baking and frolicking around in the water. headed out to la perouse and cam across a massive school of salmon great fun chasing them hooked a few but lost at boat when they jumped out of the water might have to ditch the trebles. Would have stayed longer only prob the old mercury fuel needle was on the red and had to get back to sylvania, made it no prob! looks like fishing is finally going to start picking up bring it on !
  7. cheers guys thanks for the responses, ill give those places a crack.
  8. Gday fellow fishos hoping to get out for a few hours with my sister tommorow would love ot get her on a couple of nice fish any one got any ideas for inter fish in boatnay preferably near capt cook bridge. cheers
  9. Had similiar incedant but with bloke in his kayak and his young son sharing the same as well as an older son on another, i was anchored at moli point positioned the boat to cast into current and drift bait back this guy came paddle right at back of my boat i just shook my head thinking that would give indication of ho rude he was NO he continued to paddle not 2 metres from back of boat then attempted to put his anchor down virtually to the side of my boat. I politly informed him that he was right in my casting area and pulled up then moved thinking he was gone some min later hcam drifting a metre beside my boat where i had a livie down again after some time of shaking my head and commenting to my mate how rude he was he didnt get it.So i pulled up anchor but before leaving politly said " in future mate you may like to concder the fellow boaties around you and anchor up well away considering there was not many other boats there at the time. Hi excuse was " sorry bro the anchor wont hold and im tired of paddling" My thought not comment was why the hell would you come out into botany on a kayak with a 10 year old when you are to unfit to paddle the boat to safety. I allways have respect for fellow boaties, by slowwing down when approaching an anchored boat and giving them a wide birth, so my wake doesnt disturb them to much, not botany so many inconciderate idiots on the water its ridiculous it doesnt take much to be considerate. Have a good day and good luck fishing
  10. Mate and i fished botany bay sun morning, fish with live yakkas nothing headed over to the hot water outlet. mate caught a 25cm smason fish on a prawn was very suprised first one ive seen.
  11. I contacted http://www.sydney.cma.nsw.gov.au/bbcci/ rang John Dahlenburg asked him about the water quality etc. Other than the red algea bloom he said its in good condition however cant explain the lack of fish.
  12. The plans in council attached look great for the upgrade to Como the sooner its done the better, the boat was fully serviced obviously they didn't check the battery though but the car battery work fine. Not sure about the pull start cord one thing i never thought of, the annoying thing was i had planned it so that i was putting the boat out 2 hours before dead low so i could fish both sides of the low would have been back on high. Fingers crossed the new ramp is done ASAP. https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:7xFRYd4P5W0J:www.sutherlandshire.nsw.gov.au/files/4872f759-e585-46d4-a61c-a0a000c0525a/Scylla_Bay_Masterplan_poster_A3.pdf+&hl=en&gl=au&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESgO4Dd6v4XSg2LjHJrpojsOK_LiApcqn9PRufCjYmEouHLPCoUKe8kwSRHhL_9laa-m-Cpuugpgifo8qYwDoJfRW56FJRSywNpEEtbVKOfyZc7-OFU2DG7_F2qnHh8daoMQTJg5&sig=AHIEtbSVgSYQGlUF1XuM9F8FYORN25BN1w
  13. Decided to head out for a low tide fish at Como, pushed boat off trailer floated across shallow water till i was deep enough to drop engine. Dropped engine next minute dead battery, doh only ran motor last Sunday no problem plus motor fully serviced. Buy the time this all happened i paddled in to shore to the ramp but was too late got the lowest of all tides in Como. Had an audience of may people watching and commenting but no one offered to help. Thankfully after some time i remembered i had a spare car battery in the car so had to lug one battery out of boat across mud flats and one back. Really hope council revamps the ramp.as it is in council at the moment fingers crossed i don't want to be in this situation again. At least i could flick plastic while waiting.
  14. Hi fellow raiders Been out Mon last week, Friday, Sunday and again today all in all caught one 90cm flatty on a live bait. Fished the bay lapperouse the heads moli point hot water outlet towra point trevally ally finally capt cook bridge which is where i got the Flathead on a drift at night. Just cant seem to find any more fish it spring for gods sake where are the fish.!!!!!
  15. Damn that flathead taste good, think i might have a crack doing a bit of a service on the motor to save some money. Why couldn't it breakdown in winter.
  16. Headed out early with a mate to the bay hoping for some fun with salmon on the surface, non about though. Head to a few of the man made reefs around la perouse to no avail couldn't even find any yakka's for live bait. Frustrated head back drifted around the flats managed one trevally too small throw back, mate got the call from the wife had to head home so i dropped him off. Went back fished around capt cook bridge got one take home trevally and 2 flatties 55cm. The trevally was on pillies the flathead was on plastic and a 3 foot kids rod i use for catching yakkas and squiding made for a fun fight. Been fishing every weekend all winter not managing much except the odd small jewie really hang for the water to warm up. After bragging to my mate with photos, damn motor decided to over heat smoke pouring out on the way back to ramp, , now i need to find a spare $600 bucks to have it serviced in time for the warmer weather. Note to Self use plastics instead of bait, have motor serviced when due. Could have been worse could have been stuck out at the head when the motor carked it. At least i went home with a feed.
  17. gday mate i actually had this same question re jewies due to mercury in the spine, so i rang fisheries and asked the guy there for a no bull opinion on the eating quality of the fish in botany as i feed my 5 year old son fish on a regular basis. I was told avoid black fish as they eat weed and toxins from pollution are adsorbed by weed, more so cooks river and upper Georges river where ever water doesn't move very fast and where the fish tend to hold only in those area's as opposed to the fish that feed throughout the bay and even outside and return. The large jewies would be more to worrie about as opposed to the smaller, and he reckons you would have to be on a diet of the jewies more than on night a week. other than that all other species are ok just avoid cooks river, and upper Georges and chipping norton. Any way I hope that helps
  18. i have a Bermuda 480 island coral, the original was installed at the right hand side at the stern. I have a canopy but i rarely use in winter, i just cant find one that is a metre higher the the side lights. If anyone know where i can purchase one that would be great. Cheers
  19. Hey fellow fisho's anyone tell me the correct height of a anchor light, as Ive now lost two due corrosion damage. When inquiring at local tackle shop i was told that the current one was not legal , even though it came on the boat at purchase. Also my understanding is Maritime boating handbook "The masthead or white all round light shall be carried at least one metre above the sidelights". I cant find one taller than 60 odd cm !! Cheers
  20. First photo you can see the oyster leases on the right they fished well on the top of the tide either side, after that just went quite, mabye heaps of berley might keep fish on. 3rd photo whole squid was taken twice by big jew you can see me just hanging on could not stop it. again round the same time as tide was on it way out but fished the bait to the left of the boat, maybe if you can get live mullet or tailor you'll have better luck oh and a wire trace!!!. Good luck
  21. Well back from fishing the Clyde on a house boat for the weekend and damn it went to quick, sad to be home. No photos as yet. But nothing the first night, a couple of Flathead the next day and night right up river past nellegen bridge. However no bait fish around or nipper. Moved down off some oyster racks not far from the house boat company stay the day and night sunday picked up 2 nice salmon, few small flathead and bream and i had my rod with 20 pound trace scream off with a whole dead squid on the hook, set the hook and hung on and on and on then boof nothing almost spooled me and bit my hooks off!! Was it a massive jewies???, 10 min later another one out and bang of it goes set the hook but too many lines out getting tangles then boof bit me off again. not as big as the first though. One of the other house boats landed a 1 metre jew!! BTW if you find a rod and reel it ours one of our crew lost it with a fish took it straight over the side. Good luck hopefully aeb870 you have the perfect weather we had it was cold at night but perfect in the day. don't reckon you'll have much luck up river all the bait seems to be down near where you pick the boat up. Good luck any way.
  22. no worries mate I'm sure i will have something to report maybe even a photo or two.
  23. Two more sleeps and ill be sitting back on the houseboat wetting a line, and just chillin with mates can not wait. aeb870 - see you on the water mate, enjoy i have a feeling we are going to have some awesome weather. Lets hope the fish are about as well.
