  1. Stumpy, a palaeontoligst is someone who studies fossils and such remains. Flattieman.
  2. I know what you mean in regards to rogue waves recently, Roberta. I was jewfishing off the beach the other night and encountered two rogue waves - each almost taking my gear! Very important to be wary of those buggers. Well done on the cunje-caught blackies! Flattieman.
  3. You callin' me fat? Yeah - that certainly does sound odd... unless you had them hypnotized . Flattieman.
  4. Good fishing, Boban! I've fished the Whitsundays once before and will definitely be doing it again sometime! We caught mackerel, coral trout, red emperor, sweetlip, trevally etc. etc. I also found a GT haunt that I'm keen to hit with some heavyweight poppering gear! That's a lovely longtail, and it looks like the fishing trip put a smile on everyone's dial. I'm thinking of buying a few of those Squidgy Slick Rigs before heading up next time. I'm quite sure that the pelagic you caught was a Torpedo Scad (Megalaspis cordyla) - here's a couple of pics from fishbase: to the site! Flattieman.
  5. Sounds like you managed some lovely fish, Jim! Well done on catching that big mother flattie and letting her go! Any estimates on the size of the XOS tailor? Flattieman.
  6. Reminds me of my neighbour - she eats salmon. Flattieman.
  7. That's a beauty for a first! Lovely fish, Azza. Sounds like a pretty productive day overall. Flattieman.
  8. I just love it when the salmon, tailor and kings are busting up bait schools in winter! Couple of beautiful Botany kings there, Cid - nice 'yak camera work too! Flattieman.
  9. Sounds like you managed a good feed in the end, Ray. I always find the fishing to be pretty good around that area - I'm sure everything's different after all of this rain! Flattieman.

    Happy Birthday

fellas!!! Hope you have a GREAT day. Flattieman.
  11. Yeah, mate - they attach themselves in the mouth or stomach or on the outside of the fish - their evil little limbs are well designed to penetrate and cling to any kind of flesh. Flattieman.
  12. Hi stumpy, they're isopods - just click on the link in my last post to see a pic. Flattieman.
  13. Good job on some solid tuna, Iain. Let's hope that the big YFT start to show up in numbers soon! Flattieman.
  14. Those evil bait-stealing bugs sounds like those discussed here, roosterman: http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.ph...=18571&st=0 Hope you nail some jewies soon - I lost one off the beach the other day that would've gone 15kg + Flattieman.
  15. Nice feed of fish, Mako! Those trevs are great fun when they're "on" - good fighters. Hopefully we see planty of salmon around in the near future - I got one off the beach the other day that ate a whole squid on 8/0 hooks! Flattieman.
  16. Give 'em hell, Greg! GTs are certainly some of the toughest customers around. Hold on tight! Flattieman.
  17. Great fishing as usual, Ron! When the king of H & C makes a suggestion, I'd follow it too! Sounds like a fun session. Flattieman.
  18. You're killin' 'em, mate! AWESOME catch!!! Looking forward to todays report (if you went). Flattieman.
  19. Sounds like a fun session in the legendary Paddy's Channel. Was the 35-40cm fish a bream or a whiting, Mark? Either fish puts up a great fight at that size - especially on light gear. Any flatties about? That's a nice Estuary Perch, Stessl! Well done! Flattieman.
  20. to the site, Buster. That's a lovely bag of Sydney snapper - I bet they weren't bad on the plate! What baits did you use, mate? Flattieman.
  21. Nice bag of fish, Dave! Any ideas on what busted you off? Port Hacking is my local estuary - your report makes me wat to get out there and give it a go. Little Turriel is a nice spot. Flattieman.
  22. You don't need me to tell you that's an awesome bag of bream, fellas! How did they fight? The 40+ specimens that I've caught have gone like the clappers! Well done!!! Flattieman.
  23. Onya, Dan! Some great fish of all three species there - well done! Seems like the rain has stirred up some awesome action! Flattieman.
  24. You rang, mate? I've been up on the Central Coast without the internet for a few days - fished the beaches for a decent catch of flatties, tailor and a few salmon (also lost an approx. 15kg jew, Mondo ). Anyway... guys, you've made some excellent points. Indeed, the closest match I can find for the fish in question is the sea sweep (Scorpis aequipinnis) - good suggestion, Blackfish. The brown tips of the tail really puzzle me, though - so I can't blame CFD and Mondo for disagreeing. Perhaps it's local morphology and adaptation/genetic abnormality... I'm not entirely sure, but I am sure that those distinct brown markings are certainly anomalous... Flattieman.
