    Fishing Seminar

Well i went to the fishing seminar last night and i turns out they didnt even check who had made a booking anyone could have turned up and sat anywhere, after the intermission there ended up being 20 or so vacant seats . I found the talks by gary brown and alex bellisimo to be very insightful scotty lyons unfortunately didnt make it but i thought the information the other 2 guys shared would be very useful. Most of the stuff they talked about was very basic ie bait presentation and rigs, i still managed to learn a lot. Alex brought along a few fresh fish which he had caught in the morning to show people this included a couple of 2 kg drummer and a 17 kg jew fish . Word is there will be a few more of these nights held before the end of the year with Buschy and Ian Miller to be guest speakers. There was also a free bbq Cheers

  6. Holy sh.t that is one terrible weekend mate im sorry to hear. Ive had some real shcokers but i dont even think my worst day would come close to what you experienced. All those things that broke or were lost can be replaced just be thankful that noone was hurt or injured yourself especially when you went overboard Go out and buy yourself a lottery ticket mate things can only get better from here.

  18. Definately look like sweep to me most ppl condsider them a pest, and crap eating... i dont mind them as fish cocktails. My mates girlfriend however likes them better than snapper Good on ya for getting out there they would have been good fun on light gear nonetheless. P.S theres no size limit on them you can take 20 per person
  19. A king of any size..... couldnt manage 1 last summer Species other than flathead on plastics
  20. Hi kamakazicroat As for fishing molineaux point landbased, those artificial/ man made boulders you see on the rock wall have in some places 9 foot drops in between them. I tried it once without my gear and i got 1/5 of the way down and thought "stuff this". I dont know how athletic you are, and i know there are a few ppl who do it cos you see them there all the time from a boat but i certainly wouldnt recommend it. One slip and your gone! Very dangerous indeed As for the rod it kind of depends on what species you want to catch. If you decide to go off the beach, a beach rod of atleast 10ft (i use a 12ft) is a must, i would think to cast over the breakers and to keep the line high and out of the wash. For a reel i use a baitunner in 6500 series with 30lb mono but everyone has there one preferences. A ganged pilchard or a strip bait (mackeral, tuna, mullet or squid) also ganged with a star sinker would be a good start from the beach expect to catch salmon, tailor and flatties, and a jew if your lucky. Alternatively you could use prawns and beach worms for bream and whiting. Best of Luck
  21. Hi Kantong I have the shimano sienna 2500 on my 7 foot pflueger rod, it also has 8lb fireline which you mentioned you wanted to get. As for perfromance i cant really comment since ive brought the outfit ive used it only for plastics and hardbodies, and being the novice that i am i havent caught anything with it (used it 5 times) so i dont know how it performs under load. However its cast line out pretty well and feels pretty smooth. One problem i do have though is that i find after i cast i have to manually click the bail arm back over, as opposed to it clicking back over itself when i turn the handle, not sure if thats a fault with my reel or if it wasnt designed to do that in the 1st place. Dont know your $$$ situation but in hindsight i probably would have gone for a symetre. Cheers
  22. Seems like a good days fishing on the water was had. Those white things you found in the fish are some sort of parasite common in fish like mackeral and yakkas. Sorry to hear about the blow out atleast there was no major damage done
  23. Great thread this has probably just prolonged the life of a lot of my gear cheers
  24. Fantastic catch what bait did you get the kings on?
  25. Jus thought id add to ross's report, after meeting up with the rest of the fishraider crew dave and myself headed out to molineaux point, and started berlying heavily. I was the last to get my line in the water as usual (too much muckin around), anyway finally goes in after sitting in the rod holder for a couple of minutes i noticed a few good taps so i striked and felt a solid weight on the other end, only for the leader to pop early in the fight Re rigged and after a while i got another solid hit after a short tussle i boated a 45cm pike a pb for me , i was lucky to get him as he bit me off as soon as he got in the boat. Nothing much was happening over at the point and as the sweep were swarming all over our berley, dave and i decided a move to the oil wharf was in order. After only a few small bites i decided to change baits and use a piece of garfish, not so long after the bait gets smacked and my okuma baitrunner is screaming zzzzzzzz woo hoo im on, thankfully the fish started swimming away from the wharf and towards the surface jumping around trying to gain its freedom another minutes or so and a great net shot by dave sees a very fat 60cm pb salmon in the boat for me . the bites were few and far between and then dave was next to strike with a trevally. Things got really slow and after seeing some yakkas down deep in the berley trail i proceeded to pass the time away, they were hungry little buggers devouring watever i threw down (in the harbour i find them to be very fussy only biting on mince). When we had a few livies we decided to head back over to the point and try live baiting for something bigger (kingy hopefully) nothing was on there although pretend fisherman was doing good till the pod of 15 or so dolphins came through that was the end of action at the point. Moved on to the 3rd runway where dave boated one loan trevally. All up the fishing was a bit slow but it was fanastic day on the water nonethless, with weather fining up for a perfect day. Ross, ian and robert i was good catching up and fishing with you. Thanks dave for giving me a ride on your boat hope we can do it again some time. Cheers My Pb salmon My pb pike the catch and some bait for next time
