  1. Great work Ian! Lovely Blue Nose! Well done on the flatties too! I love my plastics fishing but i also can't resist having a few bait sessions. Fishing unweighted baits like prawns have proved extremely productive for me this year. Caught more bream than ever, the majority falling to this. You get the odd thumper like yours on bread as well. Keep it up Ian! Cheers, Tom
  2. Nice work! Couple of lovely jews How big was the 2nd fish? 90cm?
  3. Hi Mate, Jew on plastics is a pretty broad topic... I have a few plastics that i prefer for them. They are: - Z-man 4" and 6" Swimmerz. In either Red Shad, Sexy Lady or Black Back Shad. - Squidgy Fish or Shad in the bigger sizes (100mm+) in black and gold, or silver fox. - Gulp 7" and 5" Jerkshads in Blue pepper neon, limetiger and at times curried chicken and nuclear chicken. These are the plastics i use the most when going for jew on SP. It's a challenge but definitely worth it once you get one! Cheers, Tom
  4. Well said mate. Some cracking jews at the singing bridge. I personally haven't caught one there but i havent put much time in either. Seen some 50lb fish caught there and heard of bigger. I know the spot at apple tree near the ramp. Some big bream there but jews? Its pretty shallow and narrow but at the entrance, after a little rain at night or during low light jews could certainly be there. Did you ever land one of them? Would really be something if a 20kg+ fish was pulled from there! Cheers, Tom
  5. Mystery fish has got me a little. While Empty Hooks is right, there are a few tuna and big bonnies around there this time of year, they wouldn't really feel like dead wait at any point. They go hard and fast from start to finish. Could've been a king i suppose. I would normally say jew, considering the dead weight followed by powerful runs and place it was hooked. Although jews don't normally thrash about on the surface in the way you described. Going to throw a cat amongst the pigeons here. It may have been a Cobia. I caught a 60cm model there a few years ago and the way you described the fight matches it fairly well. While not a common catch for the area, they do get them there on a irregular basis. I guess you'll never know for sure though. Cheers, Tom
  6. Don't really have any decent nipper spots in the harbour. Plenty on pittwater. Live worms will do the job at balmoral along with prawns. Cheers, Tom
  7. Nice work mate! Jews going off in Sydney at the moment... What is it with 3's as well. Seen a few reports of late with catches of 3 jew. Congrats! Cheers, Tom
  8. Well done Mat! Very happy for you. 70cm is a great jew to start off with. What luck to get it on a prawn as well! I told you the spots needed a bit of time Makes me more determined to grab my first of the season Congratulations and would've been a fantastic fight! Any pics? Cheers, Tom
  9. Nice report again mate! Your pulling in jews just about every weekend at the moment. Great work! You don't get too many legal snapper in the harbour so well done on landing one. Still, nothing wrong with a nice schoolie like that! Cheers, Tom
  10. Not 100%b sure about livebait but plenty of jewie anglers use blackfish fillets on the bigger fish. I'm sure a decent jew or wobbegong for that matter wouldn't hesitate in scoffing one down though!
  11. Is that a Port Jackson Or looks a little like a wobbegong also. Never seen one in a rockpool before. Was expecting it to be an occy or something...
  12. You get plenty of whiting along the beach over summer . That gutter your talking about would be worth a go. While you can flick SP for the odd flattie and bream, fishing with live worms or nippers at dawn or dusk is most productive. Especially on the big whiting. You can get some good fish from the wharf too. With the addition of tailor, salmon, bonito, trevally and the occasional kingfish. Squid frequent the area as well. Hope you get a few! Cheers, Tom
  13. I haven't got the salina 2 but used a mates 10000 and it was great. Really tough, quality reel. I'll probably pick up a salina 2 10000 in the next week or two since they've gone down in price with the new one released. Yeah your line classes should be sweet. I'm a bit petty like you. I'm switching my baitrunner d 8000 from a silstar crystal blue jig stik to a live fibre and putting the salina on the jig stik. Mainly because i don't like the match of colours with the jig stik and baitrunner. Cheers, Tom
  14. Sounds good man. I'm a fan of the Salina 2 so the 3 must be even better. Your rods and everything are fine. To give you and indication on the rod ratings etc... I run a Shimano Baitrunner 4000 with 30lb fins braid on a 6-10kg rod. It's a little overkill for a 4000 size reel but i'm going after jews and the odd king with it so couldn't really go lighter. It line rating is much less than this but no problems so far! Cheers, Tom
  15. They are great lives full stop. Kings, bonito, flat ties, big bream, jewies you name it and they'll probably eat it! If you haven't kept them live which is likely, they go well as a fillet bait for good bream. If they are decent size garfish then take a slab off and use if on a snelled rig for jews. I rate them very highly as a livebait and they go ok as a cut bait too. Cheers, Tom
  16. Hey Stan, Lovely little combo! I haven't personally used the lure project (although i've heard good things about them) but the symetre fj is a great bang for your reel. I have the 2500 size with 6lb and its proven to be very versatile. I use it on squid, HB's and Sp for Bream and Flathead, Casting small metals for salmon and tailor and even casting small surface lures for whiting in the shallows. I've had it now for about 2 years and still going strong as ever. Should serve you well! Cheers, Tom
  17. Massive Eel Stan! Would've been a cracker fight! I caught a 20kg Pike Eel in the hawkesbury a few years ago. Fought it on jew gear and i still thought it was a cracker of a fight. Great work! Cheers, Tom
  18. The Myall river is worth a look. Some great lure fishing for bream, whiting and some cracker flatties. Monster Jewfish under the singing bridge at night. The Breakwall often produces good kings, snapper, jews and bream over summer as previously said. I Never have a trip up there without checking it out. Tomaree Head for all your yakkas, slimies and squid. Some cracker whiting around jimmy's beach over summer! Good luck! Cheers, Tom
  19. Great work mate! Cracker Snapper for an estuary! Rat kings on light gear. Nothing beats it! Looks a little like Cowan Creek? Well done! Cheers, Tom
  20. Nice work man! The sharks are in hey? Had a few run ins in the past with big guys much like yours. I fought a 8' model for an hour on 20lb (braid and leader) so i can certainly understand what the battle was like. Not at night though Glad i bought a big yak as seeing a fish of that size next to me would scare me shitless. Might have a few landbased shark sessions over summer in MH. There's loads of them in there... Nice work on the jew too! A few nice holes around Bantry... Big Flatties up the back end as well. Cheers, Tom
  21. Lovely Jew Alan! Well done! Very fat fish. Your brave going so light but man landing a 20kg Jew on 4lb would be a great achievement. Cheers, Tom
  22. Nice work mate. I love the tt switchblades at the moment. The goldy colours are working best. Keep it up! The kings are starting to fire...
  23. Great work mate! Jews are a tricky fish to land on bait, let alone plastics. I also had a crack around the 7pm tide change in upper upper MH. No Jews, just a decent 60cm flattie. Seems you stumbled upon an incredible bite though! Well done and hopefully you get many more! Cheers, Tom
  24. The whiting are at the entrance. No big ones though The back end of the lake has the better whiting at the moment. Some nice flatties spread throughout the lake too!
