Hooked a good jew on 4lb (braid and leader) while breaming. Never had a chance at stopping it around the pylons. Would've been a good way to christen the new caldia 2000 and black lable 3-5lb! Christened it with a good 35cm whiting and a heap of bream to 38cm

  2. Nice work! Knew the top of the tide would smash the bream Hopefully i'll get the chance to have a crack tomorrow. And yeah its a tahwhine. Cheers, Tom
  3. I have to say, the good ol' servo prawn has worked wonders for me too this year. I've landed 4 bream over 40cm on them and a truckload more in the mid to low 30's. All landbased. Unweighted is the key i reckon. Makes it look natural and keeps it in the strike zone for as long as possible which is crucial in bream fishing. Cheers, Tom
  4. I've always got really good bream on king tides. They come into the areas normally meters from the waters edge and flicking lightly weighted plastics and baits does the trick for me. Cheers, Tom
  5. That's a nice jack! Anything over 50cm is a cracker They go like freight trains at that size... Cheers, Tom
  6. Had the same thing happen to me but with boats.. Fishing at west head in the yak and a boat decided to speed past me like 5 m away towing a water skier (who came within a meter of me!!!) and my PA12 completely filled with water and almost sunk... had to make a run for it to the closest land... Didn't do my sounder much good being soaked like that.. Cheers, Tom
  7. As previously said, the 80mm Squidgy wriggler in bloodworm is a great starting point. Should get you bream, flatties, whiting and tailor (although the tailor will wreck them pretty bad..). I have to add another plastic to the list though. The Z-man 2.5" Grubz in either watermelon red, bloodworm or violet sparkle. Best plastic i've come across for bream, flathead and whiting by far. The tailor won't do anything to them because they are very tough and durable. Keep going with plastics and even though its hard, leave the bait at home You'll get a few on these placcies for sure Cheers, Tom
  8. The small boxes/structures you'll see on the headland of west head
  9. Nexave is fine for saltwater use. Just like with every other reel used in salt water, give it a good rinse and wash after each session and it'll be fine.
  10. Kings go right up pittwater. Infact, Scotland Island and the clareville moorings are some of the best spots and happen to be well within pittwater. You'll get kings at barrenjoey and west head also. For the squid there'sma bit of reef/weed in close so as close as possible for the squid, but for the yakkas in about 6-8m of water is good. Normally anchor about 50-70m out from the old pill boxes here. Pittwater gets over 20m deep at some places. I sounded a hole 22m deep in the middle between carrel bay and the basin. 10m is enough to hold plenty of good kings. Cheers, Tom
  11. Pittwater isn't as good as it used to be. However, there are still some good fish in there. The kings haven't moved in yet it seems but if your after bream, flatties and tailor/salmon then there are some good spots. Grab some yakkas from West head. Try and get the yakkas here either before 8am or late afternoon because during the middle of the day sweep are in plague proportions. Drifting around 50-70m off west head produces a good feed of medium sized flatties. Stokes pt is my no 1 spot. Bream, flathead, salmon, tailor and the occasional jewfish, kingfish and even legal snapper. Live yakkas fished on the bottom for flathead, salmon and jews. Prawns and squid strips for the others. High tide seems to be better. The basin has a few fish too. Burley up and fish good baits and you'll find some fish. Live baits are so often the key! Catch a few squid at west head, inner barrenjoey and Taylor's point. Good luck! Cheers, Tom
  12. Heading up to port stephens for a week or two - chasing jews in a couple of secret spots and spinning for longtails at dark point. Then off to Noosa - fishing 24/7 flathead, bream and whiting by day, 50cm+ jacks and trevally by night!
  13. MM? You mean Z-man? If so, i haven't personally tried them from the beach/rocks but know people who have had success on the salmon and Tailor on the 2.5" grubz and 3.75" Streakz. Typically plastics are a little harder to fush at the beach/rocks but you will pick up some good fish on them. In the estuaries the 2.5" grubz catches everything from bream, flathead, whiting, tailor, salmon, trevs and even the odd jewie. Give them a go!
  14. Slow your retrieve right down and coat the plastics in a scent of some sort. Best way to get bream and flatties during a tough bite...
  15. Longreef is a good option at the moment. Kings and snapper in good numbers. Fish baits on the bottom but floating whole (unweighted), ganged pillies down a burley trail is deadly at times. For the flatties, look for areas that are a mix of sand and gravel on the bottom. The sand/gravel patches surrounding most reefs are a great starting point. North Head itself is worth a look though. Kings, Snapper, Tailor, Trevs and more at the moment. Burley up! Cheers, Tom
  16. You mean mono or braid? Generally braid is much better on baitcasters. Depends what your using it for. Barra 20lb braid but if its for bass then 6-8lb.
  17. While that philosophy is true at times, it doesn't always work out that way. I got my PB 97cm flathead on a peeled prawn.... I've also caught the majority of my 40cm+ bream on small baits as well. It really comes down to "match the hatch" and what the target species are feeding on. It seems like the ganged pillies are doing well for you at the moment though!
  18. Hope they're OK. I was hanging around west head in the yak yesterday when it was blowing a gale and nearly capsized... Hate to think what it was like at longy... To make matters worse apparently there's been a really big white hanging around there lately... Cheers, Tom
  19. Nice King Is it just me or are the kings lacking numbers (in the harbour) compared to previous seasons? I know its early in the season but there haven't been too many reports... Squid is #1 bait for sure. Slimies are great if you can find a few! Cheers, Tom
  20. Nice Flattie! Was hard going in pittwater on saturday... Yakkas wouldn't play (only managed 2 in over an hour) but picked up a feed of 40-45cm flatties off west head. The wind was horrendous... Cheers, Tom
  21. Wow What a fish No kings in pittwater today for me... Just a few good flatties. Slimy Mackerel are a gun bait! Cheers, Tom
  22. Thanks for that Roberta, Sounds like a good alternative! Ah yeah, i know the hatch... Forgot it existed as i haven't used it so far... I might head up to where i got the yak and see what they can do for me. In the mean time i might just drop a few big weights down to act as an anchor (although i'll probably end up drifting if its not heavy enough...
  23. Thanks Alan, You're talking about the black rudder control box right? Unless the 14 has an extra storage area? Good luck on the jews.. Cheers, Tom
  24. Great info Roberta Do you have an anchor system on your yak? I'm looking at getting one but don't want to sacrifice room on the yak for ropes etc... Cheers, Tom
