  1. Never used a Samaki before so will certainly have a look if they are running that cheap! Thanks for the heads up
  2. Yeah generally both sides fish similarly. Jews aren't very common in the lake but your best bet is a high tide after dark a few days either side of the new moon.. Good luck!
  3. Not long till things heat up in MH now! At least you managed a salmon for your troubles. The Jews should be coming on soon as well. This time of year is quality but once Summer arrives its mainly schoolies and plenty of them! Cheers, Tom
  4. Whiting aren't really biting yet so nippers can wait for a while. Prawns will out fish them this time of year, well for me at least... Focus around West Head (Tailor, Salmon, Bream, Trevally, snapper and yakkas), stokes point (tailor, salmon, bream, flathead and jews) and maybe even Taylors point for flathead and tailor. Burley a bit and grab a few yakkas to see if a big lizard, jew or early king want it. Tom
  5. Catch them in many places in the lake. I would recommend using them at the woolies bridge on the run out tide. Mainly flatties, bream and the odd school jew there.. night fishing here produces some big flatties... some in excess of a meter every now and again!
  6. Thanks for all the replies! Looks like the spellbinder and stradic FJ are the go! Will have a look at them in the next few days!
  7. Okay well at the moment I have come up with a few options: - Daiwa Spellbinder 4-8kg + Shimano Stradic FJ 3000 - Shimano Raider 4-8kg + Daiwa Freams 3000 - Shimano Barra Spin 5-10kg + Daiwa Sol 3000 each of the above combos can be switched ie: spellbinder + sol etc... Anyone has some suggestions about these options? Thanks for all the help by the way!
  8. Thanks for all the replies guys! You've given me plenty to look at! Freams looks good!
  9. Sounds good could i pick up an outfit like that for under $500?
  10. Yeah i'll add them to the list! Thanks!
  11. Hi guys, upgrading a little on my jew spin outfit. Looking at a 3000 size reel and a maybe a 4-7kg rod or 6-10kg. Looking at the raider barra spin (6 - 10kg) and the stradic fj 3000 or Daiwa Sol 3000. Can't spend too much having spent over 4k on the new pro angler 12 kayak.... Any thoughts on these or other suggestions would be great! By the way, the reel will be spooled with 15lb braid if that helps... Tom
  12. Great fish! How long was he? Looks around 80...
  13. Good to see mate! Lovely salmon! Seem to be a fair few soapies in the system at the moment.. Kings will come in shortly..
  14. Totally agree! 75cm should be the legal size.. The soapies don't taste as good as fish 75 and over anyway...
  15. All the beaches have salmon and tailor at the moment. Just fish ganged pillies on high tide in a decent gutter and you'll get them... Kings will show up in pittwater soon!
  16. Don't actually know the colour name but it was a mix of pink and green..
  17. Hahaha true mate! I'll get him next time!
  18. For the jewies my preference is the 4" or 6" swimmerz in "Sexy Lady" or "Red Shad". For flatties, the minnowz in most colours will work. I use the darker colours on bright days in clear water, and the brighter colours (pink, green) when the waters a little murky. Whatever ate my 3" minnowz this morning was a real animal... The rod is absolutely shattered! In 3 pieces... I can PM you some spots if your interested? Some other guys nailed an 86cm jewie as i was coming to terms with what had just happened.. Cheers, Tom
  19. Well I'd say you did lose a Jew now... Headed out upstream to a favourite drop off and after 15 mins hooked something of real size on the zman 3" minnowz.. I was fishing for flatties so only had 6lb braid. Fought it for at least 20mins. It would take a run then I'd make a little ground and so on... Just before I got a glimpse of it it took a five over the edge of the rockbar. I figured that if I didn't stop it it would bust me off.. So.. Pushed my little 2~4kg rod too far and snap... Only having one rod on me I had to admit defeat and leave... Very frustrating about both rod and fish but there's always next time.. Might have a crack from the yak tomorrow afternoon!
  20. Bad luck mate! Hate to say it but it might have been a jew Could've been a big flattie i suppose.. Keep at it!
  21. Haven't actually had the chance to use it yet believe it or not! Should this weekend sometime so will let you know how it is!
  22. Good work mate! At least you got a few. Some days they bite some the don't. Keep going and your consistency rate will increase.. Tom
  23. You can flick the breakewall for the odd flattie but mainly bream, blackies, tailor and a school jew every now and again. Squid can also be caught here. Places like Soldiers point are ok as well as the mouth of the Karuah river. The best flathead are on the northern side in the myall river. The stretch between the bridge and the mouth has plenty of drop offs that hold flatties. The breakwall lining the left side of the river as you head downstream is a great starting point. Plenty of fish around 40-55cm with the a few 65+. The best big flattie spot is nearby. A small creak empties out into the main river. Here, loads of mullet come out on the run out and the flathead wait in ambush. I have managed 3 fish over 85cm here. Know of a fish over a meter having been caught here. You can catch the ferry across from nelson bay and walk the bank and have a flick! Cheers, Tom
  24. A hobie dealer in mona vale (which i have recently bought a pro angler 12 from) allow you t test their yaks out. Mainly in pittwater around Bayview but it gives you a good opportunity to test them out!
  25. Good point mate! You do hear about plenty of school jew on 3" i guess! Great point about them being opportunistic feeders.. Generally speaking, the bigger fish will take the 5-7" plastics. Your 16kg fish definitely shows that you can catch big jews on small plastics! Tom
