I reckon half day of dropping jigs into that lot would have you at the chiro for a few weeks........
  4. I was there April 05, the Fletcher Bay Lodge is only NZD 14 per night. Just down the road on a rock ledge there is a plaque fixed indicating that this is the spot where the NZ record kingy was captured (around 52kgs). Snapper galore, basically anything you can catch on bait you can easily catch on plastic or fly. Im planning a trip there again Mar-Apr next year, very cheap trip 10 days cost me AUD1000 thats including airfare and hire car between two. The bay is about 3.5 hours from Auckland, you take the Aerolinas Argentinas flight ($190.00 inc. tax if you book early) at 9.30am from SYD which gets in about 2:00pm their time pick up the car, and you get the last 2-3 hours on the rocks if your keen to get a snapper for dinner. 10. Yeh, looks good when the weather settles. The water is still super warm for this time of year, I reckon the old silver snouts will be having a lot of fun after the surf slows down, dig out the beach worms. Going to hit Merries Beach, Snapper point in the next weekend or two, maybe two looking at the BOM report. The kings and snapper all going well should be in full swing. Oysters

Yeh, if you must. .........use a Ludrick outfit along a breakwall tie on with Baitmate or wrap them up in newpaper with heaps of salt the night before. Bream, ludrick, Drummer love them...just think these fish probably spend half there life trying to get them out. They wont knock back a freeby.
  16. Tassies are better for trout especially trolling, a lot of people use lead core lines over there when I trolled the lakes (Taupo, Wanaka, Rotorua) I trolled flat lines and scored just as many fish as the rest. Another technique is fishing with a smelt rig, sort of like a large bait catching rig jigged (no more than two hooks per rod) through schools on the sounder. I took a 7 foot 5 inch PVC tube with LBG and trout/fly gear over. The tube cost about $25 from a plumbers supplier (off cut) and did not get charged excess baggage on Qantas there or back. And finally Taupo is the best lake out of the lot on the North Island, average 4lb Rainbows, and you see alot bigger fish as well (double figures). Another tip if spinning or trolling dont use line under 4 - 5kg. I thought I would show off with the 2kg first trip....bad mistake lost a few fish . Im going back in April again....good luck.
