  1. My first and last Barracouta was caught out of Melbourne and the flesh was full of worms when I opened it up for a clean I find Mowies random, sometimes they taste good and other times very average. It may very well be the way they are kept after catching them
  2. Probably a bit late to comment on this post now but this is an excellent idea. Did it work? I really like how the entire setup can be removed and added back to the boat with ease.......well it seems that way from what I can see anyway. Great work, would love to hear some feedback.
  3. Nice catch there, I am still struggling to catch my first blackfish in daylight
  4. Wow, sounds like an action packed day. Grats on the Marlin. I don't think the video was linked tho.
  5. A few guys from work always go to Dawes Point and I think it's Pier 2 that they fish. They fish right at the end of the Pier for Jewfish and they have caught a fair few recently. Live yellowtail off the bottom is the preferred bait. Good luck
  6. Ye definitely worth while if you are after Bonito. I haven't been there this year but usually I regularly alternate between the Northern Breakwall at Port Kembla and this spot. In the mornings you might want to try and get there early especially if the conditions are good otherwise you might be struggling to get a spot to stand. Gates open at 6am from memory. Let me know how you go, I am keen to give Bonito a shot before it gets too cold.

    UNDERSIZE CATCHES

You should come to the breakwall down at Port Kembla, it's basically the same practice minus the mincer (that's a new one) Same story different location, very sad.
  8. Looks really nice, great job.
  9. Thanks again, but that's my problem at the moment I don't really have a kayak. Any places that I can use a boat in?
  10. Does this fish look something like a Tuna mixed with a gemfish? Like is the colour oily sort of?
  11. Thanks for the advice guys, what about bait if I don't want to use lures? Is worms the way to go also?
  12. Hey Raiders, I will repost this again because I think my original post didn't go through as a result of the site going down. Over Christmas I was visiting my brother in Melbourne and we decided to head out for some freshwater fishing. It was my first real attempt and I was hooked, over the 2 days I spent fishing we caught a mixed bag of redfin, roach and carp so nothing really special but the carp are a decent fight on light gear. I am now back in Shellharbour and I was told that most people chase the Australian Bass in this area. I have always saltwater fished so my knowledge of freshwater is very limited so if someone could assist me in telling me where to fish (freshwater) around the Wollongong area as well as some advice on targetting bass that would be great. I live in Shellharbour and work daily in Sydney so travelling really isn't an issue. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Fish ID

Thanks for that, never seen a Sand Bass before. And yes I would dare say they are edible because they didn't taste too bad

    Fish ID

Hey Raiders, Caught this fish a few weeks ago up in Queensland. Looks like a Barra, but a bit confused because its much darker than any Barra I've seen before. Anyone know what species this is? Cheers
  15. Thanks for the responses guys, and good to know that braid is perfectly fine with them. I will shop for some line soon. Cheers
  16. Hi, I am heading up to Brisbane tonight and have all of Sunday to try and fish. I am mainly staying in Brisbane but have a car so can go around the place. I am also not looking at keeping any fish, just wanted to see what fishing there is like. If anyone could guide me to any landbased spots, it would be appreciated. Cheers
  17. It's a 12ft Shimano rod, and from memory I think it was 6-8kg or 6-10kg line rating.
  18. Ye I really wanted a Hobie but couldn't justify the 2k. You can get the normal paddle ones much cheaper.
  19. Great report and crazy fish. Well done. Those foot pedal canoes are called Hobies (that's the brand) and they are great, they do however cost around the $2000 mark.
  20. Hey, thanks for that. Ye I only mainly use Finns braid, but just don't know what to use with this reel. It's my first bait runner. When I get a boat again, I will definitely end up taking it out on the boat.
  21. Hi All, Just got my hands on a Shimano Baitrunner 4500b and now very confused as to what line to use and in what class. This rod will mainly be used from the beach and rocks. I have also been told they aren't designed for Braid and I should only use mono on them, but the person didn't really explain his reason for telling me this. Is this true? Interested to see what suggestions some of you guys have for a reel of this size.
  22. Definitely a grinner, but never seen one that big before.
  23. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.
